It is located about 30 minutes (40 km) north of Lake Louise on the Ice Fields Parkway. During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway.

My Most Interesting - { Planet Adventure BlogSpot }

Today many Aboriginal artists of the Kimberley use boab tree nuts for carvings and paintings.

When the dark surface of the boab nut is scratched away it reveals a light colour underneath.

Large and regular shaped nuts are more popular but the smaller nuts are used, too. What is most important is the time of harvest. The nut has to dry on the tree, but needs to be picked rather than fall on the ground where it will most likely crack.

Motives include highly detailed faces, usually the much lined faces of Aboriginal elders, and native animals like snakes, kangaroos, birds and others, set in local landscapes.

Individual artists have individual styles, the preferred motives and the preferred nut shape vary. The colour, size and hardness of the nuts depends on the location of the tree... A carved boab nut is intimately connected to the region where both the artist and the tree grew up... What better souvenir to take home from the Kimberley?

Every boab tree is unique. They have character and personality as you would expect of such an ancient creature. Some individual boab trees are 1500 years old and older, which makes them the oldest living beings in Australia, and puts them amongst the oldest in the world.

Aboriginals used the giants as shelter, food and medicine. For the white settlers they served as easily recognisable land marks and meeting points, and not to forget as impromptu prison cells.

I had already packet my stuff for the day, after having arrived to the island quite early in the day and literaly explored almost each square inch of it, I was already on the queue to board the ferry that would take me back to main land, when all of the sudden I saw the shrine being lit, I just couldn't help it, got straight back to this view point and took a few more snaps :)

Alor Setar, Kedah Malaysia.

Balai Besar ( Royal Hall ) History

Balai Besar ( Royal Hall) is located along Jalan Pekan Melayu in the heart of Alor Setar, the state capital of Kedah, Malaysia.

It is one of the heritage and charm of Kedah state, where its original structure was built in 1735 by Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin Muazzam Syah(1710 - 1787), the founder of Alor Setar, who was also the 19th ruler of the Kedah Sultanate, as the Balai Rong Seri, or Grand Audience Hall .

The Balai Besar was destroyed and rebuilt twice during the period in the Bugis invasion in 1770, followed by Siamese invasion in 1821. It was during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, the 26th Sultan that the grand hall was completely revamped to its present look in 1893.

In 1896, the Balai Besar was refurbished by Kedah State Public Works Department under supervision of the Architect, Muhamad Bin Lebai Tambi from Penang, for the wedding ceremonies of the Sultan's five Princes and Princesses, held in 1904.

The Balai Besar was also the venue of the installation of a new sultan, namely Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Halim Shah II (1804-1845) and Tuanku Sultan Haji Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah on 20 February 1959.
