This shot shows the translucent nature of Volucella pellucen's ivory-white second tergite, and also the large dark spots on its wings! The translucent ivory-white second tergite rise to the common name for this hoverfly, the Pellucid Fly, as pellucid means translucently clear!
Note to self: Be careful when you pose in front of a light source.

This is the result of a failed experiment. My goal was to remove the eggshell of a small quail egg by dissolving it in acid (coffee machine descaling agent). The idea was to backlight the resulting naked egg, and see the yolk suspended in the translucent white. I think what happened was that my soaking stage was too long, so the shell was dissolved and dissapeared, but the acid coagulated the white, making it rather opaque. You can barely make out the yolk in this picture, but oh well, translucence is there! Science is hard....

Two Dell 30" Computer Monitor Screens with transparency
The glass frontage of our local Odeon cinema, with the mid day clouds reflected in them giving an almost translucent effect. You can just see the start and end of the first 2 letters in one of the windows.
Finished getting my trailer loaded, and stopped at a truckstop nearby to get ice and something to eat. On the way in I saw a tree in fall colors and in direct sunlight, but figured if I got under and inside the canopy of leaves, it might be interesting. So, I got my ice, walked a block and took 19 photos, then got some jambalaya at Popeyes. Back to the truck to download and see what I had. I'm looking forward to your opinions my friends.

I captured this scene in the late afternoon light of this tiny insect resting on my lanai door. I love the translucent wings, long antenna, and bulbous eyes. He was so translucent I almost didn't see him. I quickly grabbed my tripod, set up, and potographed him. He flew away as soon as I captured him.
