I hate to overplay a theme, but again I just find myself seduced by the light and neck position of the swan in this image. I can never tire of just observing these beautiful creatures.

Lost in translation

Shot on Huawei P30 Lite

The hill of Mars or Ares, better known by the name of Areopagus, of which hill of Mars or Ares is a translation. The Areopagus was a rocky height in Athens, opposite the western end of the Acropolis. It rises gradually from the northern end, and terminates abruptly on the south, over against the Acropolis, at which point it is about fifty or sixty feet above the valley. The spot is memorable as the place of meeting of the Council of Areopagus. This body existed as a criminal tribunal before the time of Solon, and was the most ancient and venerable of all the Athenian courts. It consisted of all persons who had held the office of archon, and who were members of the council for life unless expelled for misconduct. Before the time of Solon the court tried only cases of willful murder, wounding, poison, and arson: but he gave it extensive powers of a censorial and political nature. The council continued to exist even under the Roman emperors. Its meetings were held on the southeastern summit of the rock. The Areopagus possesses peculiar interest to the Christian as the spot from which St. Paul delivered his memorable address to the men of Athens.

About the project:

I apply linguistic theories of cohesion in text (meronymy) to the composition of my photographs. Most of the time I use one single image for my works that I like studying in terms of possible different meanings ("visual" semantic) to translate it later into the composition of my diptychs or triptychs.

Its worth translating for some:

The idea is not originally mine but its worth to mention:

The paranoia is certainly all around us, mainly supported by the media.

Nevertheless, has anybody wondered who's to blame?

Its not the piggy's fault, neither it was the chickens or the cows in previous cases.

The blame is directed to some or many like me that have supported the industry and the bad tendencies of the factory farming.

If their lives in farms is so unnatural its to be expected such pandemic phenomenons to appear.

therefore, Don't hide from the animals, don't complain about the paranoia and don't freak out about the "terrible problems happening in the world" because its all your fault and obviously mine too.

I took this Meadow Pipit yesterday morning after a heavy frost when all the water had frozen. There were about twenty Meadow Pipits and one Pied Wagtail walking on a frozen pool and apparently feeding on insects on the icy grasses protruding through the ice. I managed to capture this one skating on ice so you can see the pale pinkish legs, which differentiate it from the dark-legged Water Pipit I have posted recently. Meadow Pipit is also less white underneath (more buffy), more crisply streaked on the breast, and has streaks on the back. Meadow Pipit also lacks a strong eyebrow (supercilium) though that is variable on Meadow Pipit. The very similar Tree Pipit migrates to sub-Saharan Africa for winter so any pale-legged pipits in Britain in winter are likely to be Meadow Pipits. Meadow Pipits breed in grassy habitats throughout much of Britain though they are most abundant in the uplands. In winter they usually wander to lower ground, especially to the coast.

Its scientific name Anthus pratensis translates as "small bird of the meadows". Anthus was a small bird that inhabited grasslands mentioned by Pliny but not identified as a Pipit. Anthus was also the son of Antinous and Hippodamia who was killed by his father's horses. The Greek myth is that he metamorphosed into a bird that imitated the neighing of horses, but fled at their sight.

Interestingly the Tawny didn't like the look of this little snake either. He tossed it up in the air a few times exactly the same as the Greater Spotted had done, but in the end flew off without it, which is rather strange.

Obviously Tawny Eagles are not specialist snake eaters like the Bateleur, Brown Snake-Eagle, Black-chested Snake-Eagle etc., but they are known for feeding on carrion. In Africa it's not unusual to see them on old kills together with vultures, albeit normally on the periphery of the action. In Afrikaans the name of this bird is 'Roofarend', which translates to 'Robber' which I suppose is exactly what it was doing here in taking the snake from the larger Greater Spotted Eagle.

The whole event with the Greater Spotted Eagle, which was initially accompanied by an immature bird, and this Tawny Eagle was really interesting to watch and made a nice change to the animal encounters.

Location - Inner Rim // Cato Neimoidian colony planet: Z-Y4

//Translation//

Excitement rippled amongst the men as the sun began to cast its rays upon their weary faces. After nine excruciating, exhausting months of liberating the colony planet, Z-Y4, from CIS and Cato Neimoidian explotation, we were headed back to Coruscant. Battle hardened and weary myself, I approached General Bardok to inform him upon our relocation.

“CT - 2794, the time has come. Execute Order 66.”

In a blur I drew my pistol from its holster. My head rang, and there was faint shouting amongst the chaos. When I came to my sense again, I stood with one foot on Bardoks stricken chest, his lightsaber laying on the street beside him. “The padawan,” I yelled, “find the padawan, find her! Find that traitorous Jedi!”

Dyrhólaey is a small peninsula not far from the town of Vik. The peninsula is named for the enormous black lava arch you see in this image. Translating to mean something like 'door hole', it is a popular location for photography and for viewing puffins.

The first time I visited this location the winds were so powerful that photography was virtually impossible. I came back later in the trip to relatively calm conditions and snapped this shot.

The very poor and rather bizzare translation of language from Mandarin to English seems to be a rather common occurence in China, even in bigger cities like Shanghai. It makes for a good laugh at times!

The matte painting (which can be translated with painting backgrounds) is a technique used mainly in film used to allow the representation of landscapes or places otherwise too costly or impossible to reconstruct or reach directly.

Kompletnie nie pamiętam kiedy i gdzie go poznałem.

Chyba w okolicach południa złapaliśmy ten pociąg, ST43-345 z beczkami pomiędzy przystankiem Wisłoczanka i stacją w Boguchwale.

Hermon, Calvanistic Methodist Chapel, Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, Powys, Wales, UK

Year Built: built in 1827 and rebuilt in 1906 in a "curious" Art Nouveau-influenced style.

--------------

Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, occasionally referred to as Llanarmon Fach, is an isolated rural parish in Powys, Wales. It was formerly in Denbighshire, and from 1974 to 1996 was in the county of Clwyd. It measures 2 square miles (5 km2) and has a population of 40.

The scattered settlement lies on the south-facing slopes of the Berwyn Mountains in the high upper part of the Tanat Valley, at around 950 feet above sea level. Its name translates roughly as "St Garmon's church [on the] Great Mountain", distinguishing it from the village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, 5 miles (8 km) away in the Ceiriog Valley.

The old City Hall (Ratusz), which stood in the centre of the market, burned down during the great fire in 1722. Then, the municipal government moved to "Cloth Hall" of Darłowo – completely rebuilt halls, located near St. Mary's Church, which since 1725 years has been officially the town hall venue. The interior is non-historical. It is worth to notice the Renaissance portal remaining after the previous town hall, which is located above the door. Coat of arms of the city – a griffin with a tail of a fish – and an inscription in Latin, which in translation reads: "The city was founded in the 12th (the last two digits of the date has not been included because they were then known), the AD, was enlarged in 1312. Three times burned: 1589, 1624, 1648. as many times risen from the ashes. Kind to God and the prince, be always fortunate. Grow and flourish. May God make you happy and may Prince protect you for a long time. But the despair, the fire destroyed it again in 1675 and 1722 and the town hall was rebuilt in 1725 and let it be for the last time".

Dreams of the citizens came true. To this day, the Town Hall is home to the municipal government and the city – untouched – survived the march of the Red Army that won the Western Pomerania in winter of 1945.

Here’s another MAD Magazine job (October 1991) that I really enjoyed doing. Back in the early 1990s there was an inane American television game show called “Studs.” Perfect for MAD to do a spoof. Basically two “hunks” go on blind dates with the same three “babes.” Then they all appear on the show together and the “hunks” answer questions about their dates. Each correct answer get them a “stuffed heart” which is stuck on their body. The “hunk” that has the most hearts at the end is crowned “Ultimate Stud.” No surprise the questions relied heavily on sexual innuendo and double entendre. Today this show is so not PC. It was pretty bad back then too! I enjoyed doing this job, but remember, I had to watch the show for a number of weeks to do the drawing. That was painful! When I brought in the sketch for this job I never thought that I’d get an okay with no changes. I did!

I put a short link, from Youtube, to the show as a comment. Just in case you don’t know it.

Temple Kirk Inscription VAESAC MIHM RI VÆS.AC. RI. MI.H.M

flickr.com/photos/phhsykes/albums/72157714828866072

In 2020 I posted 29 pictures of the letters on Temple Kirk bell tower. Here in this album are four pictures one taken with a 500mm lens and three taken with a 500mm lens and a x2 converter. These letters have been raising interest for many years.

On the North East Corner of Temple Kirk just outside Edinburgh in Scotland sharp eyes can read an inscription in stone that has been filled in with metal letters. There are various readings of the letters some of which aim to include some letters and to put others to one side regarding them as more recent inclusions. There are ideas that the inscription dates to the Templar Knights, or to their successors of this barony the The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. Pages online appear and disappear offering insights and revelations. The historic plan of the East gable in section with details from 1905 records different lettering to that seen in situ today. I have set these pictures to bring out details in the stone and of the metal to give interested partied a good view of the inscription including the letters and the stops.

VAESAC RI MIHM (without the Æ ligature)

“1975: Nigel Tranter says in his Portrait of the Lothians book that “there is a strange inscription on the east gable which long puzzled antiquaries, ‘VAESAC MIHM.’ This is now thought to be the initial letters of Vienne Sacrum Concilium Militibus Johannis Hierosolymitani Melitensibus (The Sacred Council of Vienna, of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and of Malta).” Tranter gives no attribution to the translation”

Reader of the Lost Stone by JEFF NISBET link below

I ask you not to look too closely at the carved oblong plaques near the metal letters. These carefully made recesses into the stone could also hold lettering, or give further evidence towards understanding the metal letters. The oblongs are much harder to see and I hope that their potential keeps people looking and not looking for clues and history for a long time to come.

“The incription "V?SAC MIHM" on the E gable below the bellcote seems to be a mystery. It has been suggested that it could stand for "Vienne Sacrum Militibus Johannis Hierosolymitani Mletensibus" (The Sacred Council of Vienne, to the Knights of St. John of jerusalem and Malta), or alternatively "Virgin ?des Sacra Matri Jesu Hominum Mediatoris" (Church Sacred to the Virgin, Mother of Jesus, Mediator of Men). In 1312 the Order was suppressed, and the lands were given to the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, whose good work was funded by the residents of Temple who gave them one tenth of their income.

Temple Village History – Brief

www.templevillage.org.uk/temple-village/temple-village-hi...

The Old Temple Kirk may date back to the 12th century although it is more likely to have been built by the Knights of St John soon after they succeeded the Templars in 1312. The late Gothic tracery can still be seen with animals carved at the ends of the mouldings above the windows. This theory is confirmed by the inscription on the gable end of the church “VAESEC MUHM” that has been translated as “Vienne Sacrum Concilium Militibus Johannis Hierosolymitani Melitensbus” meaning The Sacred Council of Vienne, to the Knights of St John of Jerusalem and Malta.””
