The Transition Report 2016-17 casts a spotlight on inequality and inclusion, explaining how a failure to deliver a fair distribution of the fruits of progress may lead to setbacks in political and economic development. It also explores the causes of inequality of opportunity and looks at how to strengthen financial inclusion.

Tracking the successes that have been achieved in post-communist societies, the report concludes that the “happiness gap” has finally closed with people on similar incomes in non-transition countries, but warns that not everyone has shared in this economic prosperity.

This latest annual analysis draws on a wide-ranging survey of people who have experienced transition first-hand.

On Saturday, June 7, 2014. Bishop David J. Walkowiak ordained Rev. Mr. Douglas Braun and Rev. Mr. William

Vander Werff as transitional deacons during celebration of the Eucharist with the Rite of Ordination to the Transitional Diaconate at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Transitional deacons are deacons preparing for the priesthood.

I've been out of pocket the last week because I am currently at the Innisbrook Golf Resort & Spa in Palm Harbor, Florida photographing the events surrounding the PGA Tour's Transitions Championship...what an exciting time, and learning experience.

We all like to take pretty pictures, but if you want to work in the media world...expect to work your ass off for it. I'm not complaining...I'm having a blast, and really see me looking forward to other such opportunities if they happen to come my way.

I will catch up on you streams, and commenting as soon as I find time. I will be back in New York next week, and then will be in Arizona the following week. I look forward to meeting up with some Flickrites in the Valley of the Sun.

So, Chris, Nicki, Mike, Firman, Jill...you four especially I look forward to meeting if you're available. Let's make this happen! I was thinking that maybe we could hook up at Lost Dutchman Park so as we can do some shooting of the Superstitions. Send me emails, and let me know what your thoughts are...happy shooting!!

The coastal transition zone along the Olympic Coast is very abrupt. 10 yards inland from your stance on a rocky beach you will encounter inpenetrable undergrowth of salal, cane, and fallen trees.

Enjoyed a sunny but chilly day to take pictures along Lake Ontario. The ice formations and the extent of them along the lake was mesmerizing. Liked the transition of the white to the pale blue sky. Would have worked better if the clouds hadn't given me a huge shadow along the ice.

Getting old can be tough. My mom fell 2.5 years ago and broke her hip. She recovered, but osteoporosis has twisted her body so that she must live in a wheelchair now, at an assisted living facility.

We visit weekly to share a meal and complete administrative tasks... Her ability to safely complete transitions from car to chair (or vice versa) are a measure of her general health (lack of sleep makes such difficult)... Overall she's pretty sharp; still has a great sense of humor! But memory is fading gradually. On this trip we took her out for a new perm, and afterwards she said that at least she would look good for her husband (me!) now. She quickly realized her slip, and we all laughed it off... My dad passed away 29 years ago...

photo is the male or Pops post fish drop on friday night

I didn't go to the marina today for a Sunday it was the first time in a long time. It was very different to stay home. I ran some errands, cleaned some and chatted a lot with a friend off and on.

Our Osprey chicks are in transition. Friday night Chick 2 came to the platform for fish. The Adult male delivered. I spent more time there on Saturday snapping and watching. Saw both our Chick.... flying so high! Playing in the currents.

This sounds really silly but when I see them and they are trying to fish or are competing for food against each other I get a little smile on my face. They are doing exactly what they need to do to be successful.

That makes me proud. (Not that I had anything to do with it) The parents fly over if there is a lot of squawking to check on said chick as the parents are fairly close. Amazing that wild animals have this instinct. Some humans could learn a thing or too about nurturing their children.

Friday night Chick 2 got run off by some terns. He/she either tried to steal a fish or just got too close. Precious.

Saturday, one of the chicks was flying searching for fish and the male adult flew up to it with a fish. Then the chick followed the male to a tree. How cool is that !

I have a few shots, nothing great but still. Watching what appears to be the family fishing together or riding the currents is amazing.

I will follow them until they migrate. On the one hand I am very proud of them and on the other a sense of sadness. I consider this to be greedy because I want more. More cute Osprey chicks doing what they do. On the other hand I have been so blessed being able to witness so many miracles.

So in short as they transition, so must I. I've learned a lot from them. Who knows what else they will reveal to me before they leave.

this was a bit of a conceptual "transition" piece.. i loved the idea of having a wall of portals so to speak and i also wanted to document my old space one more time. i'm pleased with how the keyhole stairwell turned out.. this final keyhole sequence will be used in tenement+iv and is looking much better than if i'd used last years footage i think.

tenement+iv will be my first and probably only formal "short experimental flick" coming in at around 20 minutes. it has involved quite a few professional artists, musicians, paperwork and of course time. i'm already mulling over another (shorter) project i would like to develop for later on in 2009, but first's things first :)

Shot almost entirely in Eastern Europe, between 2005 and 2007, tenement+iv is the fourth experimental urban documentary by visual artist Leigh Anthony Dehaney. As with his gallery work, he continues to conceptually explore themes of dystopia, titansim and the nihilistic.

Many of the psychoacoustic soundscapes were initially constructed by Dehaney during 2003-2006 while attending the Alberta College of Art + Design in Canada.

Artist Profile:

Canadian born Czech based artist Leigh Anthony Dehaney’s background is a mixture of fine arts and technology. After graduating from Mount Royal College, Canada with an Arts and Science Diploma Dehaney obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. In 2003 he was accepted into the Alberta College of Art + Design where he was drawn towards Media Arts & Digital Technologies. Best known for his visual work, Dehaney’s influences often include Soviet constructivist architecture, industrial ruins, painted dumpsters, vintage technology, retro futurism, apocalyptic titanism, weimar bauhaus, new objectivity, things machiavellian, and mechanical systems. Dehaney’s personal practice/gallery work often depicts portraiture within a derelict and contaminated world, much of which has been largely influenced by unmarked visits to industrial Cuba and Eastern Germany. His visual artwork and experimental videos have been exhibited and featured both locally and internationally, most notably with CBC's Arts Review (Canada), Gabrichidze Gallery (Brussels), Shufflesome (Germany), Jones Soda Co. (USA), and Fotofest (USA). Professionally Dehaney consults as a film+televison “graphics dude” through his company Dravenfield Ltd. founded in 2004. Currently he spends his free time documenting industrial/urban environments in Eastern Europe and is working on his next experimental short flick and photo series “Tenement+IV”, which he hopes to have completed by May 2009.
