On the west side of Cottonwood Creek and near the sawmill and factory is a grove of Ponderosa Pines about 70 to 80 scale feet tall and some pinyons in the 10 to 25 foot range. in the far distance beyond the sawmill are some Ponderosa Pines up to 110 scale feet tall, the tallest trees on my layout.
Woodland Scenics makes several sizes of conifer tree kits that can be bent and trimmed into several tree shapes. The tree trunks are then painted the proper color before applying the adhesive that holds on the ground foam foliage. That also applies to their broadleaf tree kits. In fact, I used some small broadleaf tree armatures trimmed down to make my pinyons. In both cases, I painted the trunks a rust brown color characteristic of the Ponderosa Pines and pinyons growing throughout the Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevadas, Cascades, and other western mountain ranges. Both species of pine are fairly drought resistant and often grow in fairly open groves with brush, grass, and even cactus underneath. The tall Ponderosa Pines are the main tree of the Transition Zone between the semi-desert Upper Sonoran Zone of shorter pinyons, junipers, and scrub oaks below and the Canadian Zone of Douglas Firs growing at higher altitudes. Aspens grow in the Transition, Canadian, and Hudsonian zones after an area has been disturbed by fire or landslide and provide shade for the young pines, firs, and spruce to grow.

It was nice to see how sun transitioned its responsibility to the moon, and how it took over to its fullest capability.
All my work has moved to OSR Photography Please see me there.....
A friend of a friend very kindly allowed me to take images of their transformation from male to female. These are a couple images from that day.
During the workshop we were encouraged to go out shooting without a particular goal or subject in mind, to walk slow and be observant. It was also suggested that we include people in our images. This was particularly difficult for me so I started out small and got more bold as the workshop went on.

Portrait of a drake Wood Duck just finishing his molt into nuptial plumage. Although close, this male's crest hasn't fully developed. Unfortunately, this was the only, and brief, chance I had last fall to get close to these ducks. The migrant ducks were very skittish, spooking even with the movement of my lens behind my blind. Not wanting to stress them during an already difficult time I decided to stop trying for autumn drakes. September 23, 2015
Nature was not quite sure of what to make of the rainless and seemingly endless summer days here, so some foliage started to change color as early as mid-August

Here's another one from my Transition series!
This in particular came up pretty well and I'm really proud of the final result.
For me, "Transition" is a special concept. The most beautiful moments of a day (in my opinion sunset and night) are encased in just a single photo. The look is voluntarily unreal and dreamy. This makes it possible for the viewer to see a totally new representation of a particular place that is impossible to see with your naked eyes. My goal with this concept is to show the viewer places maybe already seen but under a brand new guise.
For those of you who are familiar with Renè Magritte, this is somehow close to his "The Empire of Light" series of paintings.
All comments are welcome as always :)

It's October and the seasons are transitioning. So are the year's fawns. Most have lost most of their spots. They still stay close to the does and still nurse some, but are mostly weaned. They will remain through Winter with the does. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Just a little bit of autumn red. The leaves have only just start changing colour here. It'll be over before you know.
Hope you're all having a great weekend.

I have been in India during a month and right now I'm trying to catch up with all of your streams and processing all the stuff. Heathorw Airport appears to be a haunting place to shot, while waiting for the connection to New Delhi. Its beautiful architecture and geometries makes this location very interesting.

A transition of seasons was taking place in the picturesque Seiser Alm during one of our sunrises there.
The raw materials for rail making arriving and the finished product leaving Workington Yard in July 1987. 37504 & 37505 have arrived from Lackenby with “the blooms”, steel slabs that will be rolled into rails like those behind 47591 which is about to back down past Workington Main No.2 ‘box where it will be released onto the main line.
To the left of the trains the loading gauge survives and beyond the railway, land is cleared for the construction of Derwent Howe Retail Park. Immediately to the left of the trains was the Langton Park Sidings which once fed the steelworks' ore stocks and after that it was a massive scrapyard containing all kinds of works railway locos and rolling stock. In the middle distance, grass grows where - a decade before - the houses, shops and school of The Marsh (a thriving Workington community) had stood. On the right of the picture the sidings on the up side are full of wagons.
On the horizon, proper docks cranes at the Port of Workington.

Not quite tights weather
We had a couple of days of fallish weather and I wanted to wear all the sweaters and boots and tights.
It isn’t quite fall weather here, yet. Once the cold sets in, I will wear black tights almost every day. With only a bit of a chill in the morning, my transitional tights are nude with black polka dots.

Transition. I have been thinking of the best way to end the year to express my sincere appreciation of your continued support of the images I capture and share. Rather than a ‘best of’ series, I opted for a new image captured earlier today. Just as we transition from 2023 to 2024, the photo transitions from the reds of the resting wild blueberry plants, to the the browns of the mowed fields just beyond, the green spruce and leafless maples, finally to the snow-covered trees in the not-so-distant higher elevations. Happy New Year and all the best for 2024!
A side-by-side comparison of the two LTDU that are at Bolsa Chica Wetlands. The one of the right was originally thought to be a female, but over the past month, it has transitioned from a grayish colored bill to what is now showing some pink. We now feel that both birds are indeed males and there hasn't been a female present at all.
