A little something back from Alison's second year

The Transfiguration Altarpiece is an altarpiece of the Transfiguration of Jesus by Perugino, dating to 1517 and now in the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia.

It was probably produced for Santa Maria dei Servi church in Perugia, where it remained until 1542. This church was one of the most notable in the city and housed the chapels of the Baglioni family and other notable families in the city. It was demolished in the 1540s to make way for the moat of the Rocca Paolina and the Servites moved to the church of Santa Maria Nuova with their large collection of artworks, including Transfiguration, which was moved into that church's Graziani chapel, where it stayed until moving to its present home in 1863.

The upper register shows Christ standing on a cloud in a contrapposto pose within a double mandorla and a ring of seraphim. Beside him are Moses and Elijah, kneeling on the same cloud. In the lower register are the apostles John (kneeling), Peter and James (to the right). In the background is a landscape. The composition largely reworks existing drawings made by Perugino, with the two registers and the mandorla originally used in his now lost Assumption in the Sistine Chapel. It is also directly influenced by his Collegio del Cambio Transfiguration fresco in the Sala delle Udienze del Collegio del Cambio, also in Perugia.

The Episcopal Chapel of the Transfiguration is located in Grand Teton National Park, with an address in Moose, Wyoming. It was established in 1925 and has been providing services to residents and tourists every summer since then. It has an amazing view of the Tetons through a large window behind the altar, and is a popular place for weddings.

The now fully restored Church of St Peter, in Laragh, County Monaghan.

It is said that it was brought back to Laragh by the mill owner and his wife from their honeymoon in Switzerland where she saw and fell in love with it. Designed in a swiss-gothic hybrid style, the church is contructed entirely out of corrugated iron and sites in a small narrow wooded valley alongside the river. The landscaping around the church is designed to imitate and suggest a small mountain glade with rocky outcrops around the church.

Had a relatively short life-span as it closed for worship in 1962.

About 2 to 3 years ago a few concerned locals feared that this church was in danger of imminent collapse and would be lost forever. They formed a committee and engaged with local council and charities to raise some funds to help restore the church to its former glory. After much painstaking and highly skilled work it is now as good as new and will be used buy the local community for various activities.

Ion's Mystical Principles: Incremental Metamorphosis Or Spiritual Transfiguration Of Reality

One of the principles of the Ion Mystical World is "The Incremental Metamorphosis Or Spiritual Transfiguration Of Reality".

Spiritual evolution does not normally take place due to large immediate changes, it requires learning, small increments that with the time factor and the preservation can change us spiritually.

An inner transformation or metamorphosis that in addition to transforming us ends up transforming those around us through our interactions. This network of interactions and transformations does not only change those with whom we interact but also with time, the World or Reality that surrounds us, multiplying, increasing real and lasting change with repercussions in time and thus also in the Future.

Like the caterpillar that turns into a butterfly but needs to feed, we also need knowledge and learning to strengthen our spirit and learning about ourselves, only then we can understand ourselves and understand better the others.

When the butterfly frees itself it interacts with its world, pollinating, reproducing itself or feeding other living beings, strange as it seems a single butterfly does not seem to make a difference but if it did not exist the repercussions would be huge in the natural world by the multiplier of their interaction and influence.

So we all have an important role in transforming this World and we must not give it up, as we will be giving up the future!

Today, if you feel like I do, that we are surrounded, except when when we are together, by individuals that have no use or interest in Jesus Christ. Recently, I was asked by a very close relative, why I believed in such stuff? We were interrupted before I had a chance to respond. But the question, has caused me to deeply reflect on possible answers. Today, in our Gospel reading, we had the opportunity to hear about the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. Our gospel acclamation states the purpose of the transfiguration quite clearly: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to him.” So, we listen to Him. Listening, implies a deep and mature relationship with Jesus…and a love between us that motivates us to be like HIM. My answer to my loved one, would obviously include Jesus Christ, my guide, my companion, and friend. Who are they listening too?

This seems like a very difficult task for many of our peers. Recently, I was listening to a popular podcast, where an educated young woman had become disillusioned with her faith. She proudly stated that she was deconstructing her faith. Eventually, she chose a career as a spiritual director, where she gladly supports others in the process of deconstructing. She strongly avoids the name of Jesus Christ in her own spiritual journey and practice in helping others. She stated quite simply that too many people have been harmed by others under the banner of HIS name. It made me wonder who she is listening too now?

This reminds me of a similar situation in scripture: found in John chapter 6. Where Jesus is preaching about the Bread from Heaven-the Eucharist. He is equating that the bread is his body. “So Jesus said to them Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (53) ) “After this saying many of his disciples drew back and no longer walked with him.” Who were they going to listening too now? I thought!

Jesus then responds with a heart wrenching question to his twelve disciples: will you also go away? Peters' response is beautiful stated “Lord to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” Because we are sitting and kneeling in our beloved church...we have a similar response…like Peter, James and John at the transfiguration event…we have the attitude that…it is very good to be here. This is where we listen to Him.

What are the benefits of listening to Jesus? Anastasius of Sinai, in his homily on the feast of the transfiguration in the 7th century states what we receive, beautifully:

“Therefore, since each of us possesses God in his heart and is being transformed into his divine image, we also should cry out with joy: It is good for us to be here—here where all things shine with divine radiance, where there is joy and gladness and exultation; where there is nothing in our hearts but peace, serenity and stillness, where God is seen. For here, in our hearts, Christ takes up his abode together with the Father, saying as he enters: Today salvation has come to this house. With Christ, our hearts receive all the wealth of his eternal blessings, and there where they are stored up for us in him, we see reflected as in a mirror both the first fruits and the whole of the world to come.” (End quote)

Peter, James and John had the awe-inspiring encounter with the transfigured Jesus, and it strengthened their faith for the purpose of sharing “the light” with the world. They had to come down from the mountain and face the complexity of a messy world. They did!

To change is painful. To be a Christian, a follower of Christ means that we have a deep bond with HIM. All relationships that are worthwhile, require us to adjust our lives accordingly. The purpose of our church…is to help form us into being a light for the world. Our transformation takes a lifetime, and this transformation requires us to listen to our conscience… for this is how we are guided in every moment and decision we make. When we receive the light of the world in the Eucharist, we are challenged to take this light, as it is reflected in our acts of kindness, into a dark and divided world.

Now let us prepare to meet Him in the Eucharist! Are we listening for HIS quiet voice within our hearts?

PCA294 - Fire

Built a small fire in the backyard and then tossed in a old book I found in a dumpster. Upped the clarity and the shadows a bit. Cropped slightly. I took many shots of the book during its conversion into heat and light. I liked this one because of the way it morphed into some other entity before falling into ash.

The #Chapel of the #Transfiguration is a small log chapel in #GrandTeton #NationalPark, in the community of Moose. The chapel was sited and built to frame a view of the Cathedral Group of peaks in a large window behind the altar. The chapel, which was built in 1925, is owned and operated by St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson. The chapel complex is composed of the chapel itself, an entrance canopy that incorporates a small bell tower, and a storage shed. The chapel and accessory buildings were designed by C.B. Loomis in a rustic style, also called Western Craftsman. The entrance canopy aligns the approach on the desired axis to the Cathedral Group and provides shelter to the chain-operated bell. Access to the chapel is by boardwalk, leading to a beveled plank door with decorative ironwork. The 22-foot (6.7 m) by 50-foot (15 m) T-shaped chapel has exposed log interior walls with stained glass windows on either side. Behind the altar on the chapel's axis, a picture window frames a view that substitutes for a stained glass composition. A sacristy stands to one side. The chapel was built to serve guests and employees of the dude ranches that stretched north of Jackson along the base of the Teton Range. The land was donated by Maud Noble, owner of nearby Menor's Ferry, predating the establishment of Grand Teton National Park in 1929 and its expansion into the Moose area in 1950. The design was based on Our Father's House in Ethete on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Construction materials, labor and funds were provided by local ranchers. It played a primary role in the movie Spencer's Mountain, which was filmed in Jackson Hole in 1963, and featured Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. The chapel was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1980. The somewhat larger Chapel of the Sacred Heart was built in the park in similar rustic style near Signal Mountain by the Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church of Jackson in 1958.

This painting depicts an abstract face that emerges through a contrast between black and various shades of red. I wanted to capture the essence of a human face, without providing details or definition other than by transfiguring, but a presence is still clearly perceptible.
