This unexpected but so sweet company emerged during my morning photographic excursion in Monemvasia. His... poses gave a pleasant vibrancy to the -albeit fascinating- ensemble of landscape and settlement!

nope, you do not have to visit your optometrician ....! It's just a traditional house on a steeply inclined street in Bergen, Norway :)
Two traditional Japanese buildings in the garden behind the main building of the Tokyo National Museum (a garden that is a lovely place to visit).
The closer building is the Okyokan (書院), dating to 1742 and the one further away is Kujōkan (九条館). That one is not given a date by the museum signage, it was gifted to the museum in 1934 and was once located close to the Imperial Palace in Kyoto and later moved to Tokyo. It contains paintings dated to sometime in the 17th or early 18th century.

Leaving the castle area and heading for the central Pillory Plaza, we cross a maze of narrow streets that offer wonderful examples of the local traditional architecture, in which granite is king.

on our way to Moskenes island on the Lofoten archipelago :) I just love those houses perched on every disposible spot which is not either Norwegian Sea or Lofoten Wall ...
The mill complex in the Streefkerk polder has a history dating back to 1514, when the drainage of polder water from the Lek River began using mills. At the beginning of the 18th century, there were two upper mills and three lower mills. Using stepped pumping systems, the lower mills drained the water into the lower reservoir. A sluice in the Tiendweg road discharged the water into the upper reservoir. The water in this upper reservoir was discharged into the Lek River when the river level was low. In 1951, the drainage was taken over by an electric pumping station east of the village of Streefkerk. The drainage sluice in the Lek dike was closed, and the embankments of the reservoirs were (partially) excavated, after which the land was used for agriculture. Of the two tall mills, the High Tiendweg mill burned down in 1962. The lock-mill was lost to fire in 1979. The foundation of the lock-mill has been rebuilt and is visible. The body of the High Tiendweg-mill has been rebuilt.
Urban impressions from yesterday's excursion into wet and windy Malmo in Sweden. In the foreground the beautiful traditional building housing of the Malmö Pastorat belonging to the Svenska Kyrkan - the Swedish Church - and the building behind, well you guesses right, some of the omnipresent bank towers that rise like unwanted mushrooms in all our cities. I found the juxtaposition of architectural styles very interesting in such proximity.

“Νικολοβάρβαρα” ονομάζει ο λαός μας το τριήμερο 4-5 & 6 Δεκεμβρίου στην διάρκεια του οποίου τιμώνται κατά σειρά οι μνήμες της Αγίας Μεγαλομάρτυρος Βαρβάρας (την αποκεφάλισε ο ίδιος της ο πα-τέρας!!!) προστάτιδος της εικονιζομένης στο πρώτο πλάνο Ιεράς Μονής Ρουσσάνου στα Άγια Μετέωρα όπου και τελείται μεγάλη & λαμπρά πανήγυρις (4 Δεκεμβρίου).
Μεσολαβεί η εορτή του Οσίου Σάββα του Ηγιασμένου (5 Δεκεμβρίου) και την επομένη η εορτή και πανήγυρις μεταφέρεται λίγο πιο κάτω,στην κορφή του μοναχικού βράχου όπου αιώνες τώρα έχει φωλιάσει η στο βάθος διακρινόμενη Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Νικολάου (η επονομαζόμενη του Αναπαυσά) για την εορτή του Αγίου Νικολάου του Επισκόπου Μύρων της Λυκίας (6 Δεκεμβρίου)
Τα έτη πολλά και ευλογημένα στις εορτάζουσες και τους εορτάζοντες όλο το τριήμερο!

Ο Παλαιός Άγιος Παντελεήμονας Πιερίας συγκαταλέγεται αναμφισβήτητα ανάμεσα στα γραφικότερα χωριά της Μακεδονίας (αν δεν είναι το γραφικότερο), μόλις 4 χλμ από τη θάλασσα και στους πρόποδες του Ολύμπου.
Η ονομασία του οικισμού προέρχεται από τον περικαλλή Ιερό Ναό προς τιμή και μνήμη του Αγίου Μεγαλομάρτυρος και Ιαματικού Παντελεήμονος ο οποίος δεσπόζει στη γεμάτη με πλατάνια κεντρική πλατεία του χωριού.
Χαρακτηριστικό του οικισμού είναι ο εναρμονισμός της παράδοσης με τις ομορφιές του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος.
Ο αναπαλαιωμένος και παραδοσιακός οικισμός βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 700μ., με θέα που κόβει την ανάσα προς τον Θερμαϊκό κόλπο και τις ακτές της Νότιας Πιερίας. Έχει τέσσερις αιώνες ζωής και χτίστηκε από Ηπειρώτες τεχνίτες, συνδυάζοντας τη μακεδονική αρχιτεκτονική με την ηπειρώτικη παράδοση. Για το λόγο αυτό ο οικισμός έχει κηρυχθεί διατηρητέος απετέλεσε,δε,το έναυσμα για μένα να ασχοληθώ φωτογραφικά πιο επισταμένως με τους απανταχού της Ελλάδος παραδοσιακούς, διατηρητέους οικισμούς.
Το υπέροχο,πέτρινο (φυσικά) αρχοντικό,εξαιρετικό δείγμα της γνήσιας Ηπειρώτικης αρχιτεκτονικής,αποτελεί το “στρατηγείο” του αγροτουριστικού συγκροτήματος Χριστοφόρου (Φόρη τον φωνάζουν όλοι) και Μαριάννας Κωσταρά στον παραδοσιακό οικισμό Δολό στο Πωγώνι.
Ο επάνω όροφος μπορεί να φιλοξενήσει επισκέπτες μεταξύ των οποίων θα συναντήσουμε τον πρώην πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας μακαριστό Κάρολο Παπούλια,καταγόταν από την γειτονική Πωγωνιανή, τον πρώην πρωθυπουργό Κώστα Καραμανλή και άλλες σημαίνουσες προσωπικότητες.
Στο υπόγειο υπάρχουν τα εργαστήρια παραγωγής παραδοσιακών γαλακτοκομικών προϊόντων τσίπουρου και κρασιών. Όλα κορυφαίας ποιότητος και καθαρότητος.
Τα προϊόντα του συγκροτήματος δεν σταματούν εκεί αλλά καλύπτουν όλο το φάσμα της αγροτικής και κτηνοτροφικής παραγωγής.
Επιπλέον, το “κτήμα”,όπως το αποκαλούν όλοι στην περιοχή, είναι και ο κύριος παράγοντας συγκράτησης του μικρού αριθμού των μονίμων κατοίκων του χωριού.
The magnificent, stone (of course) mansion, an excellent example of genuine Epirus architecture, is the “headquarters” of the agrotourism complex of Christoforou (Fori everyone calls him) and Marianna Kostaras in the traditional settlement of Dolo in Pogoni.
The upper floor can accommodate visitors among whom we will meet the former president of the Republic, the late Karolos Papoulias, who came from neighboring Pogoniani, the former prime minister Mr. Kostas Karamanlis and other important personalities.
In the basement there are the workshops for the production of traditional dairy products, tsipouro and wines. All of top quality and purity.
The products of the complex do not stop there but cover the entire spectrum of agricultural and livestock production.

Der Stintmarkt (abgekürzt auch Stint) befindet sich im historischen Wasserviertel der Stadt Lüneburg und ist heutzutage vor allem für seine zahlreichen sich in den mittelalterlichen Häusern befindenden Restaurants und Kneipen bekannt. Besonders im Frühjahr und Sommer genießen dort zahlreiche Lüneburger*innen und Tourist*innen die idyllische Atmosphäre direkt an der Ilmenau. Den Stintmarkt zeichnet seine zentrale Lage aus: So befindet sich dieser in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Rathaus Lüneburg und dem sich davor befindenden Marktplatz. Ein bekanntes Wahrzeichen der Stadt, welches am Stintmarkt zu bewundern ist, ist der historische Alte Kran.

Church of Hagia Sophia in Monemvasia,Lakonia, Peloponnese,Hellas (Greece)
It is the most important monument in the Upper city of Monemvasia and was built in the 12th century. Because it was considered a perfect copy of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, after the revolution of 1821 the Greeks dedicated it to God Sophia(wisdom) while initially there honored Virgin Mary Hodegetria (Guider).
Its use from time to time as a mosque and as a Roman Catholic cloister, it has undergone additions which have significantly altered its exterior and interior appearance.

Εκτός από τον Πολιούχο της Άγιο Νεομάρτυρα Κωνσταντίνο τον Υδραίο,η Ύδρα έχει να επιδείξει ένα μακροσκελέστατο κατάλογο επιφανών ανδρών τους οποίους χάρισε παντοιοτρόπως στην μητέρα Ελλάδα:Σημαντική ήταν η βοήθειά της Ύδρας στον εθνικοαπελευθερωτικό Αγώνα του 1821.Διαθέτει 130 ετοιμοπόλεμα πλοία χωρητικότητας 30.000 τόνων, 5.400 άνδρες και 2.400 κανόνια.
Δίκαια ο Ιμπραήμ αποκάλεσε την Ύδρα "Μικρή Αγγλία".
Την επανάσταση κήρυξε στο νησί ο πλοίαρχος Αντ. Οικονόμου. Θαλασσομάχοι του '21 ήταν, ο Ναύαρχος του τρινήσιου στόλου Α. Μιαούλης, οι ναυμάχοι, Ιάκ. και Μαν. Τομπάζης, Αναστ. Τσαμαδός, Γ. Σαχτούρης, Γ. Σαχίνης, Αντ. Κριεζής και οι Βώκοι. Μεγάλο ρόλο έπαιξαν και οι πυρπολητές Ι. Ματρόζος, Ανδρ. Πιπίνος και ο Βατικιώτης.
Στην Εκκλησία, η Ύδρα έδωσε τον Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αθηνών και Πάσης Ελλάδος, Δωρόθεο Κοτταρά, και τους Μητροπολίτες, Πάτση, Παρίση, Επιφάνειο, Καλαφάτη και Προκόπιο Γεωργαντόπουλο.
Στις επιστήμες και στα γράμματα, έδωσε τους Ακαδημαϊκούς Α. Λιγνό, Ι. Χαραμή, Ν. Χατζηκυριακό-Γκίκα, Π. Τέτση και το ζωγράφο Ν. Νικολάου.
Η προσφορά της Ύδρας στο Γένος συνεχίζεται, δίνοντας στην Ελλάδα έναν Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας, πέντε Πρωθυπουργούς και αναρίθμητους Υπουργούς: Ο Γεώργιος Κουντουριώτης, διετέλεσε Πρόεδρος του Εκτελεστικού κατά την επανάσταση, μέλος του Συμβουλίου του Καποδίστρια και επί Όθωνα, Πρωθυπουργός και Υπουργός Ναυτικών.
Ο Αντώνιος Κριεζής, Πρωθυπουργός επί Όθωνα. Ο Δημήτριος Βούλγαρης, επτά φορές Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας.
Ο Αθανάσιος Μιαούλης, τρεις φορές Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας.
Ο Πέτρος Βούλγαρης, Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας.
Το 1912, ο Υδραίος ναύαρχος Παύλος Κουντουριώτης, ως αρχηγός του ελληνικού στόλου, νίκησε τον τουρκικό στόλο στα στενά του Ελλησπόντου.
Το 1924, ο Παύλος Κουντουριώτης αναγορεύτηκε πρώτος Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας.
Την ίδια περίοδο, ο Νικόλαος Βότσης, τορπίλισε τουρκικό θωρηκτό μέσα στο λιμάνι της Θεσσαλονίκης. ....

Ο αναπαλαιωμένος και παραδοσιακός οικισμός βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 700μ., με θέα που κόβει την ανάσα προς τον Θερμαϊκό κόλπο και τις ακτές της Νότιας Πιερίας. Έχει τέσσερις αιώνες ζωής και χτίστηκε από Ηπειρώτες τεχνίτες, συνδυάζοντας τη μακεδονική αρχιτεκτονική με την ηπειρώτικη παράδοση. Για το λόγο αυτό ο οικισμός έχει κηρυχθεί διατηρητέος απετέλεσε,δε,το έναυσμα για μένα να ασχοληθώ φωτογραφικά πιο επισταμένως με τους απανταχού της Ελλάδος παραδοσιακούς, διατηρητέους οικισμούς.

Ο Παλαιός Άγιος Παντελεήμονας Πιερίας συγκαταλέγεται αναμφισβήτητα ανάμεσα στα γραφικότερα χωριά της Μακεδονίας (αν δεν είναι το γραφικότερο), μόλις 4 χλμ από τη θάλασσα και στους πρόποδες του Ολύμπου.
Η ονομασία του οικισμού προέρχεται από τον περικαλλή Ιερό Ναό προς τιμή και μνήμη του Αγίου Μεγαλομάρτυρος και Ιαματικού Παντελεήμονος ο οποίος δεσπόζει στη γεμάτη με πλατάνια κεντρική πλατεία του χωριού.
Χαρακτηριστικό του οικισμού είναι ο εναρμονισμός της παράδοσης με τις ομορφιές του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος.

I loved this view while driving into the settlement where we would stay for our Lofoten visit. Isn't it grand to have that view when stepping out of your door?! :)

From September 2023, Zagori was registered as a cultural landscape in the UNESCO world heritage.
