The Woolworths in Bethnal Green Road is soon to become an Iceland. The sign gives notice to anyone thinking of entering that this is a construction site, so on your head be it (if you're not wearing a safety helmet, that is).

No, it's not April 1st, Tower Hamlets really is going to put in a bid to become a City in 2012.

City status will be awarded to one local authority in 2012 to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. We're up against Middlesbrough, Blackpool, Reading and Luton apparently.

Should give the anti-Tower Hamlets Council brigade plenty to moan and whinge about, I can hear Carole 'Cross' Swords sharpening up her pencil already!

Tuesday 3rd February 2015 - and I need no excuse to post a photo of one of my favourite flowers, the snowdrop!

Even as London experiences some cold weather during what has been a generally mild winter, the appearance of snowdrops, the first flowers of the year and those harbingers of Spring, remind us that warmer weather and longer days are just around the corner.

The Brick Lane mosque has acquired this tall steel structure, said to be inspired by the minaret of a traditional mosque.

the Jammie Masjid started life as a Hugenot (French Protestant) chapel. It later became a Jewish Synagogue and is now an Islamic mosque, reflecting the waves of immigration to the area. It is also believed to be the only building outside the Middle East that has served as a place of worship for all three of the major monotheistic religions
