… it’s hard to picture neat and tidy –if crowded– Limehouse Basin once was super busy and incredibly dirty Regent’s Canal Docks, where most of the coal, timber –and wine– consumed in London came in from the Thames.
… a crisp and clear shot taken from the entrance of the Cut.
A visitor from the XIXth Century, or indeed my own grandparents, would definitely not recognise the place :-)
Greenwich Foot Tunnel, London. Under the Thames, towards Island Gardens. Opened in 1902 linking Greenwich on South Bank of the Thames, with the Isle of Dogs on the North bank.
Now part of the Thames Path.
The cast-iron tunnel is 1,215 feet (370.2 m) long, 50 feet (15.2 m) deep and has an internal diameter of about 9 feet (2.74 m).
A familiar view, but the clouds were saying "take me" and I'm looking at shots for my 2023 calendar so doesn't need to be the sharpest. Just the right shape.
