A great blue heron flying by after snagging a toadfish in St. Andrews Bay, Panama City Beach, FL. If only I'd turned a litttttle more to my left! Still a really cool shot.
Porichthys notatus (Batrachoididae) Toadfishes
Distribution: Eastern Pacific Ocean along the West Coast of North America.
Habitat: Ranges from intertidal areas where they may remain out of water under rocks or seaweed to deeper water over sand and mud bottoms. Return to shallow intertidal waters to reproduce. Seasonally common in San Francisco, Suisun, and San Pablo Bays. Water planet Senses Cluster

Common toadfish are seemingly everywhere in Florida waters. They are also known as oyster fish and rock fish.
Opsanus tau - oyster toadfish (juvenile)
Dropped out of an oyster basket. No longer than a pinkie finger. So cute at this age!
silly toadfish we found languishing upside down on an exposed coral head. It didn't seem to appreciate our efforts to return its exceedingly soft and slimey body to the water.
