Through Dualism, I’m interested in exploring the correlation of the mind and body, specifically how physical ailments influence the self through underlying mechanisms which guide our behavior. For the left image, I have scanned images of the subjects and constructed transparent paper sculptures out of them, photographing them as the final piece. For the right image, I have cast the subject's head in clay, and constructed a paper cast in tissue paper from that mold, photographing it as the final piece. I wish to convey how living with a life influencing illness is a shift between the internal and external, death and rebirth, worry and comfort, with each swaying the other in a careful endless balance.

Me with my shoe cake, 2009
remember the candle holders I made out of jam jars and paper? This is another shot from that evening. One I already posted below
I am in love with Washi Tapes that I get from the Tinted Mint. They dress up my packaging, but are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and are relatively inexpensive for the way that I use them. These tapes come in a miriad of colors and patterns and several widths. They are re-positionable, even on my tissue paper!

Ok......
Here is my NEW macro photo studio.
Total cost $2.16.
I made this to take some product photos for my FIL's business. It's a work in progress but any suggestions or tips would rock my world!!!
I think I'm going to make some additional "screens" using the left over squares I cut out already. That will give me 3 portable screens to further adjust the lighting on the go.
How to direction were found from the Strobist "How To: DIY $10 Macro Studio"

Photo I took for article "Inexpensive and Eco-Friendly Craft &Gift Idea for Any Occasion", read it at www.associatedcontent.com/article/767635/inexpensive_and_....
I introduced the idea of a focal point...we talked about how an artist can tell the viewer where to look by making 1 thing in their art differnt from the rest. We made a fish as our focal point and the kids used brushes and watery glue (regular schoo glue) to add bits of torn tissue paper to a fish cut from scrap mat board. We used the gift type of tissue paper.
While the fish dried, the kids tore and added blue tissue paper to the background- to their surprise the blue tissue was the "bleeding" type with water soluble ink in it. When they brushed over the paper the color moved like watercolors- perfect to do our watery backgrounds.
The kids chose where to put their focal point and we attached with tacky glue.
They all ended up with blue fingertips, but the work was amazing!!
My peony tree flowered lushly, was beautiful for a day, and then it rained for 24 hours. The flowers melted into mush.
But I got a couple of shots before the rains!
Here is one rather macro-ish shot of one of the blossoms. I say "sort of" macro because the blooms are about 6 inches (15cm) across.
Sunday I was asked to take photos of my theatre group's dress rehearsal. I took 1125 photos in 5 hours of rehearsal. I have to go through them and get them ready for viewing by Wed. night, so I may not be here much!
That is BESIDES the other work around here..... oh dear.
Happy Valentines to all! OK I admit it, I too am a sad romantic. Valentines Day has become a fixture on the calendar, but don't wait for one day in the year to give your loved one a gift and flowers to tell them how much you love them.
Unexpected flowers or a gift goes further to tell them that they are always in your thoughts.
Cakes by Sharon Walker produced these Valentines themed cup cakes.

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #38" "Low Sat and/or Pastel Colors" "Thoroughly Abstract Thursday"
This is tissue paper I colored with acrylic inks. I crushed white tissue paper, sprayed it with water, and then dropped on acrylic ink. After the paper dried, I ironed the paper, and then crushed the paper again and repeated the process. When I was satisfied with the result, I ironed the paper flat.
I'm hoping to have an example of this tissue paper I decorated in every month's color in 2014!

Welcome to the abstract Thursday, my Flickr friends! Thanks so much for showing up and sharing!
I took 2 plies of gift wrapping tissue paper and cut it into 4 equal pieces. I then took one of the strips (which is still 2 ply) and folded it in half length-wise. I then made cuts on the folded side about 3/5ths of the way down, spacing them about 1/4 inch apart.
When done. carefully flatten it and fold it in the reverse direction, so the cuts form loops.
I had to make lots of these.
THIS gorgeous custom hair piece design will be on my head in less than 2 weeks. i'll probably never want to remove it because it's so nice. i highly recommend working with myra; she is so personable and sweet. her etsy shop is called: myrakim.
