A wonderful day of storm chasing with my workshop peeps back on August 12th...we got on some solid storms around the Willcox area before sunset, then later dropped south a bit to this view of the Dragoon Mountains which were getting blasted with lightning. Definitely a favorite image from this year...an isolated bolt hitting a mountaintop...doesn't get much more fun than this!
This little hummingbird has a rather out-sized name: Purple-bibbed Whitetip. Now, the name very accurately describes him - he has a purple gorget and a little white tip on his tail. But we found it easier to call him Tippy.
Happy Whimsical Wednesday!
Fall Warblers 2016 #1 View 2
I thought it would be fun to count how many different species of warblers came through on migration this fall. My rules were simple.....to count I had to have an id shot of each species and have photographed it within a short walk from our house....no more than 200 yds.
The little Yellow Warblers are so fascinating to me that I got very carried away in my image counts of them this fall. I shot them in just about every pose and condition imaginable, seeing something unique in each bird and each view. I loved this upright back pose and especially the cute little tail feathers. For several days we had a nice sized migrating flock around here and their interactions were fun to watch.....like this one stretching up tall to keep an eye on another warbler.

The weather is getting chilly and that means it's officially snuggle season! Find someone to keep you warm! ♥
Thank you, Klaus for posing with me and being so amazingly sweet! ♥

Most squirrels will leap onto the edge of our stone birdbath for a quick sip, but this one decided to stop and stre-e-etch up on tippy toes for a refreshing drink of that water dripping over the edge.
Taken through the window so not as clear as I'd like.

The long toes of the Common Gallinule enables it to climb aquatic vegetation and to walk on soft mud.

Damaged Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly gingerly teasing nectar from a prickly Canadian Thistle flower head. Being a butterfly isn't all flash 'n dash. Contact with thistle spines shreds its wings and shortens its life.
Somewhat common and abundant.
Queen Mary 2 in Rio de Janeiro.
Since she is also a North Atlantic Ocean liner, I suppose she can't be tippy.
Green heron tip toeing thru the vegetation as it looks for its breakfast. Small fish, frogs & toads, dragonflies, other insects....its all fair game but must be snuck up on. Kind of like how I'm sneaking across the creek taking shots.
