This is a photograph from the 1st running of the Carbury GAA 10KM Run which was held in Derrinturn, Carbury, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 28th July 2013 at 12:00. The race was organised by the GAA club and sponsored by various businesses in the locality. The race was very well organised with excellent stewarding and support. Well done to everyone involved.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 60 participants
Weather: There was hot July sunshine for the duration of the race. There was little or no breeze.
Course: The race starts and finishes at Carbury GAA clubhouse. The race starts and heads southwards along the Sli na Slainte to the main Edenderry Road (R403) at Windmill Cross and proceeds along 'The Back Road' to the Grand Canal at Ticknevin Bridge where the course turns sharply and back to head northwards along the Bog Road to meet the R403 again. Finally for the last 2 KM the race passes through the westerly end of Derrinturn village before following the road to Carbury GAA for the finish. Overall the route is reasonably flat with the only significant rise at the Canal bridge near 5KM.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including soup and sandwiches in the GAA Clubhouse afterwards.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. The Irish 24 Hours Championships took place on the 6th and 7th July 2012 at the Sportsplex in Bangor, Co Down, Northern Ireland. This was in conjunction with the Energia 24 Hour Race which is the only 24 hour race in Ireland. The race started at 18:45 on Friday 6th July 2012 and ended at 18:45 on Saturday 7th July 2012. There were three options for competitors: the 24 hour race, the 12 hour race, and the relay option (4 members per team - each doing two hours stints).
This was my first time to take part in an event like this - I was a member of the Donadea Relay Running Team. Each relay member had to run 2 hours on the track and then had a break of 6 hours.
There is so much to be written about the 24 hours of racing. First is the dedication, committment, the will, the strength of the people involved in the 24 hour and 12 hour race. They are example to anyone who says "I cannot do it..". Second, is the weather. Never have we seen such conditions for running where a moonsoon came in and rested over the running track for approximately 14 hours. Tents were flooded, the track got flooded in one corner, runners flirted with hypothermia as supplies of running gear were severly strained. To see the photographs of the time from about noon onwards of the 7th one would need convincing that this was the country, never mind the same race. Third is the the support crews and the support from the event management. From the people who handed out drinks, the precision timing people, Bangor Sports complex staff, race organisers - there was no such thing as teams - EVERYONE helped EVERYONE. Finally to everyone involved as a whole who made this a very special event - the mix of emotions, friendship, competition, etc. Don't judge a 24 hour ultra race until you have seen one. The overwhelming response from everyone involved was that they would be back next year!

Careful timing as we descended the Wootton Rivers lock flight meant that I could catch a glimpse of a returning steam-hauled special train. Bullied pacific Clan Line makes light work of the climb to Savernake with the 13 coach British Pullman from Bristol to London.
The afternoon shadows are always magical around here. Long, yellow shadows are cast through the meadows and forest. While it only lasts for about 15 minutes each day, it's always worth timing a photo shoot to capture the changing landscape. The yellow becomes even more apparent surrounded by a blueish winter scene.
Well, the day was beautiful, but timing was poor for what I found to be the source of my woes with this old lens -- a stuck wide open aperture. Not fair really to even take pictures in this harsh, bright sun, but I did anyways.
Based on reviews and articles on this old auto-focus Ef mount Sigma 21-35mm f3.5-4.2 lens, the lens should have performed fairly well in these conditions with a working aperture.
These are all straight out of camera (SOOC) shots taken on September 22, 2014 at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, Alabama.

The 1st round of the 2013 Mullingar Road League 5KM Race, Fun Run, and Walk was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 1st May 2013 at 20:00. The race follows a completely traffic free course around the trails and paths of Belvedere House. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. The race organisers and participants were treated to a beautiful May evening with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze. There was a fantastic atmosphere as runners and joggers and walkers tackled the undulating course and a tough finish up the hill at the Jealous Wall and the finish line at Belvedere House. A great evening in the midlands and a race that shows all that is great in the participation and volunteering that goes into athletics events like this.

Participants: Approximately 550 people took part in both events with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.
Weather: This was a wonderfully bright evening with little or no breeze.
Course: This is an undulating course with some good downhill sections near the lake but also some short sharp hill sections on the trails in the woodlands.
