Middlebury Old-Timers Group Meets The 20th annual Middlebury Indiana Old-Timers met at the Town Hall Tuesday, May 13, 2014, sponsored by the Middlebury Community Historical Society started by “Cider” Vernon Miller to share the old stories of the Town. The Society operates the Middlebury Historical Society, Inc. operates the Middlebury, IN Community Historical Museum to preserve the history of Townships of Jefferson, Middlebury and York. Miller's family still participate, including Kathy Miller with the phenomenal memory for names and history. The Miller ladies served delicious cookies at the break. Richard Smith, co-director of Middlebury Historical Museum, Marvin Miller, and John McKee of the Bristol Parks Dept. all spoke to the group. McKee told about the Little Elkhart River, its mills and its importance to the growth of the Town of Middlebury. Martha Hill talked about the history of the Garden Club, formed in 1933. Wanda Huffman shared an old mortuary record with the group, to offer information. Junior O. Yoder showed his graduation photo in a display. Many in the audience told stories of the past, including amusing and grateful ones about Dr. Teeters; Charlie Swartz, the barber and the tales of how John Dillinger might have been a Middlebury visitor. Local media attending the event including Melissa of the IN Middlebury Magazine and Miriam Nowak of the Elkhart Truth. It has been suggested that Bristol start such a yearly gathering of Old-Timers. Day 3: Wednesday - April 17, 2019, 9:15 am -- Depart the Hotel and head to Oatman, AZ; an old mining town on Route 66, where you will have time for shopping, to see the mules running wild, and a gunfight at high noon. We will depart Oatman at 12:30 pm and arrive at the Hotel for lunch and a nap around 1:15pm. At 3:30 pm the bus will depart for Las Vegas. We will be arriving around 5:30 pm. to eat, shop and enjoy the lightshow, Viva Vision at the Fremont Street Experience at 8 pm and 9 pm. We will depart at 9:15 pm and arrive back at the hotel around 11:15 pm.
