Darek & I went to the Prime Timers of the Desert Monday Mixer at The Elks Club in Cathedral City this evening. Scott, Farrell, Bill & Rusty joined us for supper at the Old Spaghetti Factory before we came home for the night.

Neil's first timers' briefing was especially popular this week with 31 newcomers.

after seeing Jan McGeachie's collage I remembered these cameras gathering dust in a filing cabinet!!!

These mechanical timers are rare, but very very neat. These are activated and start running time when you throw a lever back into reverse.

Photoclip timer for cable shutter release. Front view. Note the winder, with red 'timer' marking, and the stop lever (top). The winder acts on a clockwork interior and, when running, it pulls in the 'claw' which actuates the cable release.

An old wooden spool that has been carved and fitted with an hour-glass type of timer - a gift from my younger daughter some years ago. I can imagine when the spool was full of thread, resident in a mill where cloth was woven. Those would have been very difficult times, now gone forever.

Middlebury Old Timers Meeting Held May 7, 2019. Of the room full of chairs set up in the Essenhaus Conference Center in Middlebury, Indiana on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, nearly all of them were filled with people interested in hearing and talking about Middlebury History. The Miller sisters were on hand to register guests, and Mama Miller had directed baking of the delicious cookies for the guests. Town Manager Mary Cripe welcomed the visitors to the event, while Marvin Miller led this year’s discussion of meetings of past years beginning in 1995 as photo slides were shown. After the presentation, the floor was opened for comments and questions from the audience. Audience members including one 102-year old told of their experiences and memories. Then a break was taken for the delicious Miller cookies, before the discussion was continued. Attendees viewed the many scrapbooks and photos on tables at the rear of the room. The meetings are generally held the 2nd Tuesday of May, each year. Just the Facts:The Middlebury Old Timers meeting began about 26 years ago when Vernon Miller (now deceased) a local historian who ran a cider mill in Middlebury was inspired to host yearly Old Timers meetings. Now in its 24th year, the free meeting is hosted by the Middlebury Community Historical Society and the Vernon Miller family. The 2019 Meeting was held at the Essenhaus Conference Center in Middlebury, IN and is open to those who grew up there and those who didn’t but were interested in its history and life in the early days.

4-digit 7-segment display and piezo speaker, Arduiono, DS1307 real-time clock and some buttons.

I bought the display on trademe.co.nz and it didn't come with a data-sheet so I experimented a little to work out the pins. Unfortunately I killed a couple of segments doing so :-(

Joey was in the kitchen looking out the window. I set the timer on the camera and went over to scratch his head. He turned his head just in time!

Though, in my first attempt he was rubbing against my hand, very cute, but I had the flash on and it resulted in bright floor and everything else black.
