Died 1894, Gunshot wound. - Shot by the Chinese cook at the Blacks Mine. Reported in the Silver Messenger, September 11, 1894.
AH YOUNG
Worked as a cook on the Stanley Gold Dredge. When he died of a heart attack, he was buried there, then exhumed and transported to the Bonanza graveyard. He received his residence paper #136652 from Helena, Montana.

CENTAURAS, HENRY
Born in Hanover, Germany in 1847. Mined along the Salmon River from Sunbeam Dam to Burnt Creek. Made a stake and returned to Germany where it is reported the fortune was taken away by authorities. He returned to Idaho and started mining again to make another fortune. He died at Custer, Idaho on July 16, 1921.

Born in Italy. Died July 8, 1910 when the air shaft to the Sunbeam mine plugged with ice and snow, Andrea climbed up from inside and placed a charge of black powder at the plug. He miscalculated the time necessary to reach safety and was killed in the explosion.

Native of Italy. Born in 1848 - died at Bonanza, Idaho on October 31, 1905. Left three sisters living in Italy.

Born 1834. First mining death at Golconda Mine, by injuries due to falling rock on September 15, 1879. Buried one mile west of Bonanza.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1840. Died at his home between Custer and Bonanza, Idaho on May 15, 1911. Had been a writer for the Silver Messenger under the non de plume of Graph; for 30 years. Crossed the plains with oxen teams in 1866. Came to Custer County in 1878.

OLLSON, CHARLIE
Died September 5, 1880. He fell from the framework of the Custer Mill last Saturday morning, died at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening. He was buried the next day, the funeral being well attended. The wounds that caused his death were compound committed fracture of both the right and left tibia fibula, and fracture of the base of the skull. Ollson resided in California a long time.

Born November 2, 1873 - Died July 30, 1935 of suicide due to extremely painful cancer of the lower intestines. He had mentioned to his son that if I hadn't been a man in this country, I would have liked to have been a tree. Years later after the old man had died, a tree sprang from the exact spot where his heart was buried. To this day, his family half believe the tree is the fulfillment of the old man's wishes.

Born in Ohio, July 1852 - Died October 4, 1903. He carried mail from Custer to Sunbeam, and on to Loon Creek area. When a child became sick at Sunbeam and needed medicine from Custer, Silas, against his better judgement, volunteered to make the trip. He made it to Custer but was caught by a snowslide on the return trip, and killed. The child is said to have recovered.

Became one of the owners of the Montana Mine on Mt. Estes. Elected to Idaho Territorial Legislature from Lemhi County in 1878. Lived in Custer for many years. Received a spinal injury when a horse fell with him, that was ultimately the cause of his death.

Too many varieties of lenses and shutters were used on Ultrix series. The shutters usually from Gauthier, like the Ibsor, Vario, Pronto and Prontor. The lenses labelled Ihagee Anastigmat. But Ihagee never made any lenses of their own, they were all bought from several lens makers. It is possible that the glasses may have been mounted by Ihagee.

Shutter release lever, high speed accelerating spring pin (seems to provide additional force when 1/400 gets engadged). Timer lever and pin pushed by speed selector dial.
Timer does not work (the lever wont stay cocked). But it seems that it does not propose any danger to normal shutter operation.
Started making a programmable timer a few weeks back. The Arduino code at the moment is stupendously long and untidy.

Although they put a lot of energy into their performance, I hope the UK Government doesn't get the idea of installing banks of these egg timers / hour glasses in every town and city as alternative energy sources, otherwise it will be back to thr middle ages and treadmills!

I have always thought the convention that one should smile for a photograph rather silly. If someone smiles at me, I ...or my vanity... like to think that he or, preferably, she, does it because he or she likes me and wishes to please me. To smile with equal indiscriminate amiability for anyone who happens to pick up a photograph of one's self is somehow to place a low value on one's approval. Vanity is also a motive; one wishes to be liked and assumes that by grinning like a Japanese waiter one will create a favourable impression.
There are other kinds of vanity, such as the kind that led me to throw away the original print of this photograph. I thought I looked too full in the face ...and the hair, well! I used to get a bit huffy sometimes when, as quite often happened, I was mistaken from a distance ...and not infrequently at quite close quarters... for a woman. In the bin it went, to be resurrected now, over 30 years later, as a scan from the negative.
I must have been sitting on the edge of my bed with the camera on the bookcase opposite. The odd colour cast and strong shadow come from the overhead light.
I'm building the kite aerial photography timer circuit from Make magazine vol 2, and this is the prototype. I changed the circuit a bit from the magazine, because sometimes just keeping the kite up for more than a minute is a challenge. :) I used a 2 MΩ trimpot in series with a 680K resistor to adjust the timer interval from between 20 and 40 seconds.

An old Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon literally put out to pasture at the Sonoma Valley Airport -- I am told that it had an honorable career as a fire-fighting water tanker -- but that's not a fact yet. I love the metallic airplane-ness of it. The PV-2 is the offspring of the Lockheed Electra leading to the PV-1 Ventura bomber which apparently had a nasty habit of, "not taking off," when its gas tanks were filled, hence the PV-2 (longer, wider wing, bigger engines). This one, LP10PV, was built in 1944.
