Beneath those rugged elms that Yew trees shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a moulding heap.
Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet asleep

View from the Rozenhoedkaai, after sunset. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO, and the Rozenhoedkaai always make a stunning impression.
Merry Christmas / Joyeux Noël !!!
Still standing in its resistance to the forces of wind and water, an incredibly unique and beautiful formation of Moenave Sandstone rises from its home on the high desert floor deep in the Navajo Nation.
Sitting up here on the limestone plateau at sunset can feel like another geological time zone.....almost expecting to see a Mammoth come wandering across.
Ingleborough was believed for a while to be England's highest...and given its massive appearance and almost having its own weather, it is hardly surprising. And of course it's in GOC.
Early morning fog settles amongst trees and shrubs.
I have a deep respect for trees and their ability to endure through the years the hardships that the weather brings. From frost to extreme heat they always seem to bounce back, perhaps not as beautiful as before, they are survivors. Their beauty is timeless no matter how ravaged they may become.

Framed by an old tree is the Canyon de Chelly’s most distinctive geological feature - Spider Rock - a sandstone spire which rises from the canyon floor 750 feet.
Canyon de Chelly is located in northeastern Arizona within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation.

A detailed low-angle close-up of ancient Egyptian carvings on a dark stone granite surface with both hieroglyphic inscriptions and figurative representations.
The bas-relief carving is showcasing Seshat, an ancient Egyptian deity - the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, writing -
wearing her distinctive headdress featuring a seven-pointed star and two inverted plumes. She is shown in profile, a common artistic convention in ancient Egyptian art, with her arms extended in a record-keeping gesture.
Another deity figure - Thot - is partially visible to the left, also in profile, interacting with Seshat.
The background and surrounding areas are densely covered with intricate hieroglyphic carvings, which appear to be well-preserved. These inscriptions would likely detail the actions of the figures depicted, religious texts, or historical records related to the monument's construction or purpose.
The play of light and shadow highlights the depth and precision of the carvings, emphasizing the three-dimensional quality of the relief.
The photograph is taken from a low angle, looking upwards, which emphasizes the monumental scale of the carving and the structure it adorns. The natural sunlight casts dramatic shadows that enhance the contours and details of the figures and hieroglyphs.
