The forecast on this day was calling for 25mph winds and normally that would keep most people off the dunes, tourist at least. Us photographers on the other hand, most would see that as an opportunity. Personally, this was my second day on the dunes that week and first time ever being in a sandstorm. Come to find out, it was gusting 35+ mph and it wasn't nearly as fun as I thought it would be. Hindsight would tell me now that I should have bought goggles because often I would just sit there with my eyes closed for a minute or two as the gusts came on. I was there for hours, 4 at least and making my way through the dunes taking as many photos as I can find sweeping converging lines. I have so many photos to go through from this day but I stopped at the first one that I liked, which means there should be more to come soon! As I was walking back to my car, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with the feeling of joy. I couldn't have been more happy to be pelted by sand all day, picking sand out of my ear for the next 24 hours. I thoroughly recommend that if you are going to shoot sand dunes and there are high winds on the forecast, DO IT!

re...the flickr blackout week....my heart says yes...my head says no...I dislike the new format intensely...I will avoid it for as long as possible via foreign language versions...then reluctantly...will learn to adapt...it's all about priorities...there are more important things in life than flickr...but...I'd hate to lose contact with my lovely flickr friends,contacts, groups.... and I hope many of you will stick with it and find a way of coping with whatever yahoo/flickr throws at us!
