Day #11 of Self Challenge to edit and post one image per day and #3 in a series of 4 images from beneath my feet. For these decaying leaves, time has frozen, arrested in their life cycle creating for me a momentary beautiful respite form the agony of the pandemic

Time To Go

LYRICS

You’ve been sleeping the whole night, tried my best to not even call

‘Cause if you’re not here by my side, I’ll come knocking at your door

Did you mean what you had said, ‘cause it’s fuckin’ with my head

I’d give it all to get you back but now I know, I know you don’t mean that

‘Cause I can feel you when I’m low, I can feel you when I’m high

I struggle to sleep when I’m alone, I’m alone

‘Cause I can’t get you out of my mind

‘Cause nothing is true and no one is you and nothing at all ever feels right

You’re caught in my head, you’re stuck in my mind

I’m trying my best to say my goodbyes, oh

I think it’s time to go, I think it’s time to go

It’s time to go

You always saw the best in me, although I know I could make it hard

But you could always make me laugh, you take the good, you take the good from all the bad

and now I can feel you when I’m low, I can feel you when I’m high

I struggle to sleep when I’m alone, I’m alone

‘Cause I won’t let you down, no I won’t let you down

No I won’t let you, no I won’t let you, no I won’t let you down

Check-in any time you like...

time is moving, it never comes back.

There was a Red Cardinal on one side and a Blue Jay on the other but I had the macro lens on and by the time I changed lens the Cardinal was gone but the Blue Jay decided it was bath time.

We are all time travelers moving at the speed of exactly 60 minutes per hour

what if you could jump back or forward in time?

what would you do? where would you go?

I know what to do, definitely.

But I know it is not mine to choose.

I also know not to delve on the impossible.

So I may as well use my time well.

And do more substantial things in the real world.

Now if I could just have a few more minutes of surfing :p

Times Square NYC in 2014.

Sorry for the overload. This was such an enjoyable day drive with my daughter. That does not happen very often. We enjoyed each others company and the drive as well as a couple of hikes.

Thanks for your visits and comments! They are all greatly appreciated!

It is daffodil time, so the robins all cry,

For the sun’s a big daffodil up in the sky,

And when down the midnight the owl calls “to-whoo”!

Why, then the round moon is a daffodil too;

Now sheer to the bough-tops the sap starts to climb,

So, merry my masters, it’s daffodil time.

A brief history of the manufacturer...

W. Watson and Son was an optical instrument maker. In 1837, the William Watson business was established in London for the manufacture of optical instruments. By the 1840s, the company moved into lanterns, slides and associated equipment. In 1868, the name was changed to W. Watson & Son and by this time were located at 313 High Holborn, London. In the 1870s, the company added photographic equipment and became known as a leading manufacturer of the Highest Class Photographic Instruments and Apparatus in England. Into the 1940s, the company remained at 313 High Holborn.

On 9 January 1881 William Watson died. In 1883, the name of the company was changed to W. Watson & Sons as the son, Charles Henry Watson joined the business. The 1883 Kelly's Business Directory listed both Charles Henry Watson and Henry Watson as associated with the Watson & Sons company located at 23 Walton Street, Aylesbury, England. In 1889, the company participated in the formation of a Photographic Trades Section of the London Chamber of Commerce. In 1894, the company exhibited scientific instruments at the Antwerp Exhibition.

In the 1890s, the business continued to grow and advertised in catalogues their factories for instruments, optical glass and cabinet work located at Fullwood Rents W.C. The warehouse and show room remained at 313 High Holborn. In 1900, W. Watson & Sons purchased the John Browning & Co. In 1903, a section in the journal Knowledge lists an assortment of equipment available from the company: microscopes, astronomical telescopes (educational model for £5 1s), Crookes' spinthariscope (pocket model for £1 1s), and Electro-Therapeutics apparatus that included complete outfits for radiography from £30. The company also offered Finsen-type lamps.

At nine minutes past two, apparently.

I'm not sure how old this watch is (or, more accurately, bit of watch), but it's possibly from the 1920s. It would originally have been housed in either a silver or gold case, but the case was scrapped a long time ago. The flowers have seen better days too. :)

A few dark clouds around these days - in the sky as well as in my head. Another from Spittal before sunset.

A perfect Autumn's day comes to an end at Ullapool Harbour, Scotland. This is a 6 shot hand held pano with frames taken in portrait orientation then cropped at a 2:1 ratio. I normally prefer to have the horizon dead centre on my pano's but the cloud formations were so impressive I just had to include more sky - hopefully the composition works.

Have a great weekend all!

Since I still have a significant backlog of images from Iceland, sometimes - instead of going through them one after another - I look through them randomly to see if any stand out, and this time it was one from the beautiful Hraunafossar which we visited at the end of our trip.

After we enjoyed a quick dip in the hot water of the Búðardalur hot pot, which was on our way from the Westfjords to Reykjavik, we continued our drive through the amazing landscape and decided to make a short detour to the Hraunafossar. From the parking lot, it was only a short walk to the viewing platforms where you can see turquoise water coming out of the porous black lava which is covered with beautiful greenery. Every time I arrive at epic locations, I kind of feel overwhelmed and need a little time to find some compositions that work, but in this case I have to give credit to my girlfriend for spotting the composition you see here, which I shamelessly stole from her (after politely asking of course).

Taking this image wasn't easy as we were standing on a wooden floor that was shaking when people were walking over it (we could have moved a little to the side, but then the angle was not ideal and trees in the foreground blocked the view a bit) and since it’s not too far away from Reykjavik, I guess you can image how many people visit this location. I also had to zoom in to 200mm to isolate the waterfall and using filters to get a longer exposure together with the occasional wind gusts made this composition not easy to get.

After getting at least one sharp image, I noticed that my girlfriend was struggling with sharpness and soon we identified the problem: Her tele lens does not have a tripod collar and she didn’t have an L-bracket at that time. This means that - in order to take a long exposure in portrait orientation - she had to tilt the ball head of her tripod to the side, where the weight of the camera and lens caused the camera to move down introducing some blur in her images. At first we thought that the reason might be her cheaper tripod, but then I gave her my tripod with which she got the same blurry images. This meant that the only reason could be the small tripod plate on the bottom of her camera, and it only took a quick look to see that it was noticeably shifted. Fortunately, I had another spare tripod plate with me and using this together with my tripod made it possible that she also got the result she wanted. After spending way to much time at this location, we continued upstream to see the Barnafoss as well. Finally, we got a coffee at the restaurant next to the parking lot before we continued to the Reykjavik campsite with a slightly sad feeling that our trip goes to an end. I hope you like it!

PS: Thanks again to my girlfriend for having such an amazing eye for compositions and for letting me steal this one. If you have some time, I think she would really appreciate it if you would also check out her images: www.flickr.com/photos/193130995@N02/

Another teacup photo just for you. I could always use another one in my stream, right? I am not too sure about my choice of focus here but I liked the tones too much to not post it!
