Flowers at last.

Our garden sits on a hill that faces southwest and has a lot of rocks and boulders. This creates a microclimate and as a result we have plants living their own season :) This thyme is already green, and it is only mid-March.

Clinopodium alpinum, also known as mountain rock thyme, is an herbaceous plant in the lipflower family (Lamiaceae). This plant is mainly found in mountainous regions of Europe, such as the Alps, Pyrenees and Carpathians.

Grows on sunny, well-drained calcareous soils, often on rocky places or in alpine meadows.

The plant has a mild thyme-like odor and is sometimes used in herbal mixtures or as an ornamental plant in rock gardens.

Remember me to one who lives there

She once was a true love of mine

buttery dough folded together with fresh thyme and Gruyère cheese. hmmm.....some of them look like something...

I don't like sage...

My friend Liz gave me this lovely herb plant for Mother's Day - Thanks Liz!

She is also one of the 12 wonderful friends who bought me the Canon.

So this image is for you Liz!

Now if I add the lemon thyme to the mushrooms from earlier....I might have something! Better start shooting garlic and olive oil.

Remarkable 16th century botanical calligraphic artwork by two masters of the past: Georg Bocskay (1510–1575), court secretary to Ferdinand I, and Joris Hoefnagel (1542–1601). First created by Georg Bocskay to demonstrated the different styles of calligraphy of the era, the book was later ornamented with intricate fruits, flowers, and insects by Joris Hoefnagel and commissioned by Emperor Rudolph II, Ferdinand’s grandson. This unusual artistic collaboration between scribe and painter disrupted the history of manuscript illumination and gave us one of the most fascinating and beautifully crafted manuscripts of all time. Complement your designs, posters, and wallpapers with these enchanting CC0 illustrations from the past. I love thymes. and I have a weakness for buying them especially when I see something different - changing the thymes every year. I have about 8 different ones on the patio including the 3 in this trough.

From left to right all bought as small plants and sold as labeled:

"Common compact"

"Caborn wine and roses"

"Lemon variagated"

I found this recipe on Sunday Suppers and so I had to try making some of my own! It's so delicious. Nice and light and refreshing. :)
