I prefer tea with thyme and ginger when I have a cold.. why!? The essential oils of thyme have an expectorant effect and make coughing easier; they have a relaxing effect on the bronchi. And ginger has a diaphoretic and anti-inflammatory effect due to the pungent substances it contains and warms me up from the inside. So now I've revealed everything to you.. 😎👍

In Italy in the past, pumpkins were used to decorate the homes in the countryside because they were believed to be good luck for a fruitful harvest.

We got a fresh snow blanket by morning. It has mostly melted and won't last long. Spring is around the corner...

Somedays you just need to get lost in the thymes ;)

Thank you for all your helpful and encouraging comments. I do appreciate your consideration and time. Thank you for viewing my photo.

Winter weather in Portland usually means overcast skies and incessant rain. Though once or twice a year, the temps drop below freezing and that precipitation either turns to glorious fluffy white snow.....or treacherous ice. The last few days the mercury has dropped and we've had a dose of the latter.

The roads are slick, many stores are closed, and being that my workplace is located on a large hill, we are in what is referred to as "modified operations". I like this all encompassing term. Seems like anyone living in Portland during these ice storms could refer to it as such.

It is pretty though, everything going full 'Demolition Man', preserved in a layer of ice. One that builds slowly, allowing tiny branches, blades of grass, and even single sprigs of thyme to be frozen in place.

The thyme is a real pest, because it spreads everywhere in the garden. But it's still looking good and the bees love it 😉

lamb bhuna slowcooker recipe

1kg of cheap chunky cuts of lamb on the bone mixed with plenty of spices, chilli powder, pureed ginger, pureed onion, stock cube, tinned tomatoes, and concentrated tomato paste in the slowcooker for a few hours on low. the lamb was tender and easily came away from the bone. remainder boxed and in the freezer for as and when. lamb bhuna is a 'dry' curry

the meaning of 'bhuna'

an Indian dish or sauce in which spices are dry-roasted in a pan and then combined with a moistening agent such as yogurt or water.

the word 'bhuna' refers to the cooking method of this dish, and means 'to fry' or 'fried'. usually the spices are fried gently, before adding the meat.

originating in bengal, bhuna is a hot 'dry' curry, doesn’t come swimming in sauce. it’s usually a thick sauce, with just enough to cling to the meat

a 'dry' curry has much less liquid. the liquid is allowed to evaporate so that the sauce coats the ingredients
