You may wonder why they're all leaning forward slightly in this shot. Mere moments before snapping the shutter, from off camera, Mom yells, "Stay away from the fence!! There's poison ivy!"
At least they kept smiling.

The next day, and three of the arches have been partially demolished.
While I was taking a few photos I chatted with an elderly gentleman who had lived in this area when he was a child. He told me that back then the archways were used as stables for horses that were used to do maintenance work on the nearby railway.

Using DARPA as a model, the Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) was founded three years ago to develop risky and audacious ways of generating and storing sustainable energy. Given the scale and complexity of the energy sector, lessons learned from DARPA about defining success and the character of innovation are key for policymakers and will to serve ARPA-E well in its important mission. Join former ARPA-E- Director Arun Manjumdar, current ARPA-E Principal Deputy Director Eric Toone, and former House Science, Space and Technology Chairman Bart Gordon as ITIF explores the character of early stage government innovation support in both military and energy applications. They will survey the history of DARPA for lessons on how to measure success and maximize the value of the public investment in ARPA-E. What can past success teach us as we embark on today’s Age of Discovery.

Another M.C.Escher homage using one of my favourite muses: The Rubik's Cube!
(The original M.C.Escher image can be viewed here.)

This is a repost of an earlier version, to enhance the "flatness" of the middle cube's top portion and to add the date. (Sorry for deleting the earlier comments).

This is the second poster in the collection of three that I made for this assessment. In this one I decided to stay closer to the original image and adjust the angle of certain layers then added in water. I copied the pre-existing layers, flipped them then adjusted the transparency to create a mirror reflection. I also added an effect with a mask over the top to change the colour of the car without permanently changing the colour.

The Virginia Beach Historic Preservation Commission dedicated a state highway marker to commemorate the Meeting of Three Commanders on Wednesday.
The marker was placed close to Lynnhaven Colony Park on Shore Drive near where the meeting is believed to have taken place. The marker dedication ceremony will be held at the park shelter, 3125 Shore Drive.
Gen. André Lanata, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation of NATO Allied Command Transformation was the main speaker at the dedication ceremony. He is a French Air Force officer. Gen. Lanata will be joined by Virginia Beach Mayor Robert M. "Bobby" Dyer on the program.
The Meeting of Three Commanders occurred Sept. 18, 1781 between Gen. George Washington, commander-in-chief of the combined American and French armies, the Comte de Rochambeau, commander of the French expeditionary army, and Admiral François Joseph Paul de Grasse, commander of a large French fleet of warships. These commanders met aboard de Grasse's flagship on Lynnhaven Bay. It was here that the final strategies were devised that led to the stunning Franco-American victory at Yorktown.
The text for the marker was researched and developed by local historian Jorja Jean, who received a grant award from the Virginia Beach Historic Preservation Commission to fund the marker. The Virginia Board of Historic Resources approved the marker application at their June 2018 quarterly meeting. Virginia's historical marker program is the oldest such program in the nation.
The Virginia Beach Historic Preservation Commission is a City Council-appointed body that advises Council on issues related to the City's historic resources. The group seeks to preserve, protect and maintain the historic integrity of Virginia Beach and the former Princess Anne County through a program of advocacy and increased public awareness and involvement. The commission generally meets the first Wednesday evening of the month, except July and August, at 2101 Parks Ave., Suite 500. *I forgot that I needed to order "supreme" to get avocado, so it was almost as good as I remember.
Since I had the time and was in the neighborhood, I drove through part of our historic district to see how many shots I could get of three gables. In less than half an hour I found nine houses in a six block stretch of College Ave. that fit the bill.
I love the paint job on this one! It's on Wisconsin Ave., on my way to College. It's near downtown and there were several cars parked so that I had to shoot around them.
