The design chosen was a "bathtub" type, commonly called ponton. While this was considered futuristic during the war and the concept was taken further with the 1949 Nash, and survived for decades in the Saab 92–96 in Europe, the 1948–1950 Packard styling was polarizing. To some, it was sleek and blended classic with modern.
The Eight and Deluxe Eight lines had 288 cubic inch engines throughout the three year production, rated at 130 hp in 1948 and 135 hp thereafter. These cars rode a 120-inch wheelbase as used on the prewar and postwar Clipper cars which preceded them. The Super Eight line had 327 cubic inch engines throughout the same period, rated at 145 hp for 1948 and 150 hp thereafter. These cars utilized a 120-inch wheelbase for 1948 and 127 inches from 1949 on. A long-body seven-passenger sedan and limousine was offered on 141-inch wheelbase.
Georgetown Airport Classic Car and Vintage Plane Show
February 27, 2016
Georgetown, TX
I went to my first large-scale Texas car show yesterday, actually it was cars and airplanes, which is something I hadn't seen in all my years of attending these types of shows in California.
Billed as the "5th Annual Georgetown Airport Classic Car and Vintage Plane Show - Motorcycles Welcome," the event was free, but donations were accepted for a veterans organization. Of course, I gave.
It was pretty big, with a decent mix of chrome, rust, and tattoos. There was a C-47 that was giving half-hour rides, a beautiful P-40, and a quarter mile stretch of really cool hot rods.
I was there for a little over an hour and a half, the weather was perfect, sunny and just below 70º, and I walked up and down the length of the show four times, taking over a hundred pictures. About half were keepers.
I had a great time.

Whether it's an up and coming band, an innovative piece of technology or an inspiring film, SXSW has it all. :)

147th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment
The 147th New York was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Francis L. Miller. He was wounded on July 1st and Major George Harney took command.
The regiment followed the 76th New York and 56th Pennsylvania on the field in the very early stages of the battle on July 1st but split off from them to move to a position about 300 yards west of the monument and nearer to the equestrian statue to General Reynolds.
The position was extremely deadly. Lt. Colonel Miller was ordered to fall back but was wounded before he could pass the orders on to his men. The regiment stood its ground, taking heavy casualties, before orders finally reached it alowing it to withdraw. Although the 147th lost three quarters of its men, its stand saved Hall’s Battery from destruction and probably saved the Union position south of Chambersburg Pike.
Water source and pump for a car-washing vendor at the Bonneville Salt Flats during the 2007 World of Speed event.
An entrepreneur set up an on-site car wash at the Bonneville Salt Flats during the 2007 World of Speed event. Vehicles coming off the salt flats had salt on their undersides, in the wheel wells, and on the rear fenders. For about $20 he would wash all the salt off. For about half that amount he'd let a driver do the washing. I paid him to wash the Green Weenie; this was a lot more convenient---and thorough---than washing it myself here or at the self-serve car wash in Wendover.
He had a large portable swimming pool as a water tank. (The water had been delivered by a water truck.) A gasoline-powered pump provided water pressure to several washing hoses. Three or four vehicles could be washed simultaneously if drivers did the work themselves.

Three Shire Head (also known as Three Shire's Head, Three Shires Head, Three Shire Heads) is the point on Axe Edge Moor where Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet, at UK grid reference SK009685, or
53.213°N 1.987°W.
It is on the River Dane, which marks the Cheshire border in this area. On the east of the river, the border between Staffordshire and Derbyshire runs north-east for about a mile to Cheeks Hill, on the higher regions of Axe Edge Moor. From Cheeks Hill the border runs south then east to the head of the River Dove.[1]
The main landmark is an ancient packhorse bridge.

I'm sorry this is late. My roomie from Oregon flew up to Alaska the day after I got back from New York. It has been busy busy busy. But I have some awesome pictures, including me kissing a moose (now you're excited). But again this is last weeks favorites, I wasn't able to upload them before camping. Thanks to all of you again for your wonder inspiring work. You are incredible artists.

It's too bad this didn't come out clearer because it's rare you can see all three faces at once since they don't sit still.

Three SUVs travel along a section of road that has been closed off to the public during three days of "Star Wars" filming @ Malin Head in Donegal. On the shore, a frame for a slide and a digger type vehicle. The digger bucket had been filled with water, which it then, reportedly, emptied onto a slide on the frame, whilst film crews recorded the water hitting rocks on the shore.
I was about a mile from this, but there are obviously some sort of mini constructions on the shore, just below the metal slide frame, and security was still on site - mid top of picture.
Three Rivers Snacks
New France hamlet, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA
Three Rivers is New France's snack stand, featuring funnel cakes, popcorn, and drinks. I'm not sure if the structure existed when the park opened in May 1975, but it's listed here in the late 1970s and early-mid 1980s under a generic "barbecue rib stand" title. By the mid 1980s it went by the name Three Rivers Smokehouse, which it retained until the opening of Trapper's Smokehouse across the way in March 2003.
