Three tiny pink wild flowers

Second image from with my Sony DSC-RX100 MKii - very pleased with the image quality of this small compact camera - this was ISO 800.

November 20, 1958: Eleven-year-old me before playing Sheriff "Three-Gun Luke" in a grade school production of "Cowboy on the Moon". The 50th reunion of my high school class is coming up this summer, and the call has gone out for old photos for a memories booklet. Lordy.

Three Cliffs Bay is a bay on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, South Wales. The Bay takes its name from the three sea cliffs that jut out into the bay. Pennard Pill, a large stream, flows into the sea in the middle of the bay.

Trying to ignore me except for the one of the left. They all enjoyed this but you can't tell it from this picture. :)

The male Three-wattled Bellbird has a white head, chestnut body, and three long, obvious, blackish-grey wattles at the base of the bill. The female is much more nondescript, lacking the distinct wattles and is yellowish-green overall. Found in high mountain forests, this species is a pronounced altitudinal migrant, wintering in lowland forests. Although silent throughout most of the year, from March through June males of this species give a remarkable, far-carrying “boi-nng,” call from an exposed perch that has been the subject of many studies on vocal communication. Even though this species is known for its loud, piercing call, it is easily overlooked when silent. Only recorded feeding on fruits, the Three-wattled Bellbird may forage by aerial sally or while perched. This species has a restricted range and a small population size of less than 20,000 individuals, which is believed to be declining; due to these factors, the Three-wattled Bellbird has been listed as vulnerable on the IUCN watchlist.

Three pendants I just completed for a friend of my daughter who's son had died. Made pendants with some of his ashes for the mother and two sisters left behind.

The button marked 'three' on a well used remote control unit gets the macro treatment.

Too lazy to get off the couch at Pelcomb Portraits.

This is a portrait of Three Eagles who was Nez Perce. It is taken from a historical archive of native American pictures. I love the faces and names of so many of the peoples of this wonderful culture.

The image was woodburned onto a small 7.5 inch X 5.5 inch plaque. The wormwood border was crafted artificially with a Dremmel Moto tool. The piece is stained with an acrylic and ink wash.

The Kinderdijk windmill area is situated in the Alblasserwaard between the rivers Lek and Merwede, about 25 kilometres from Rotterdam. In 1997, UNESCO inscribed the windmill area on the World Heritage list, a recognition of its unique character.

The little penguin (Eudyptula minor) is the smallest species of penguin. It grows to an average of 33 cm (13 in) in height and 43 cm (17 in) in length. It is also known as the Fairy Penguin in Australia

In 1956 the rock breakwater was built for the Olympic Games and has since become home for a thriving colony of Little (Fairy) Penguins. The colony of Little Penguins (Eudyptula minor) have been the subject of a study since 1986.

This is not a managed park although there are Earthcare of St Kilda Inc. volunteers who will manage crowds and answer questions. The volunteers were an excellent source of information and helpful.

The penguins return to the breakwater at night and are sensitive to white light so there is no flash allowed. There is very limited ambient lighting but the penguins don't "see" red light and the volunteers use red torches to highlight the penguins which just allows you to get some autofocus working.

Quite challenging for me and the first tie I have ever ventured into the really high ISO and combined it with my 50mm f1.8.

There are quite a few in the trash bin but this is one of the better ones. Worth it all to see these fellas in the wild.

From left to right: The world's largest ham, the world's oldest ham, and an example of a branded ham (though I couldn't find the "P.D.G. JR. U.S. INC. 193-" brand).

Of interest here is the world's oldest ham. It was owned by P. D. Gwaltney, Jr., son of world's oldest peanut owner P. D. Gwaltney, Sr.

Pembroke Decatur Gwaltney, Jr. was the owner of what would eventually be called Gwaltney of Smithfield a meatpacking business whose best known product was, you guessed it, ham. Gwaltney of Smithfield was bought out in 1981 by Smithfield Foods, a company that was started by former Gwaltney employees Joseph Luter, Sr. and Jr. in 1936.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. In 1902 a ham was missed in an outgoing shipment from the Gwaltney plant in Smithfield. Around 1921 Mr. Gwaltney, Jr. found the ham and noticed it was still edible thanks to his curing methods. He had a brass collar made for the ham and displayed it at trade shows and county fairs as his "pet ham".

I was on food and hospitality trade show in Moscow all last week. It was a nightmare, tones of clients, people staring asking questions, partners from all over the world. After a day at the fair we had a late night diner and a party with foreign partners. No time to rest. But, every morning for like 10 minutes before opening, I sketched the view on still under construction new parts of the trade show facilities. This sketch took me three days, but it was really like 5-10 minutes.
