Inspiration, where art thou... I struggled with herb cubes (nice texture on the aluminium foil they are wrapped in, though) and printer ink cartridges, and other things, and when I rearranged my three little helpers, small LED lamps bought at an internationally active Swedish furniture store, the sun shone through my window and created a nice twinkle on their surface. Since I had the star filter mounted, because I had hoped for some extra sparkle on those herb cubes, I got some nice extra bling. Of course I should have dusted the lamps before (dust bokeh!), and removed the drying rack, and the tripod from my camera, but it was a spontaneous fun decision to shoot them. I have a sharper shot, but with too many reflected selfies (yes, more than one) in the capture. I'd say one small one is enough ;-) And just for fun I measured the size of all three lamps together, and was surprised to discover that the whole arrangement is still within the 3" limit, a tad smaller actually. The head/shade of one of those lamps is about 6,5 cm (2,55906 inches) long and 3,4 cm (1,33858 inches high). I measured several times to make sure everything is within limits.
The biggest macro I ever shot for MMs, size: 7,5 x 7,5 cm (2,95276 x 2,95276 inches).

Inspiration, wo bist Du... Ich habe es mit Kräuterwürfeln probiert (in hübsch texturierter Aluminiumfolie verpackt) und mit drei Tintenkartuschen für den Drucker und noch anderem. Als ich meine drei kleinen Helferlein, LED-Spots, erworben in einem international tätigen schwedischen Möbelhaus, umarrangierte, schien auf einmal die Sonne durchs Fenster und ließ sie schön glitzern. Da ich den Sternfilter drauf hatte (wegen der Alufolie), ergab das immerhin ein paar hübsche Sterne. Zum Spaß habe ich zum Lineal gegriffen und war erstaunt, dass die Lampen, so arrangiert, noch innerhalb der 3"-Grenze liegen.

It took some days until I had recovered from the drive from Newcastle to Whitby (driving on the left side of the road, a car with gears to shift and hills/mountains/whatever).
I finally managed to convince myself that it was a bad idea to rent a car and not use it.
So I drove to Bridlington. Bridlington North Beach to be precise. And apart from the bit where I had to go right through Scarborough it went fairly well.
And to my surprise Bridlington had some colourful beach huts as well. :o)

There was a zoo here until the 19th century when animal welfare concerns saw the remaining animals transferred to more suitable accommodation in the new London Zoo at Regents Park.

A series of long exposures while chatting with Mark Dixon. This was the longest and produced the best result I feel. Not more I can say except I've got Nik Silver Efex working again via Elements 12 so more black and white stuff to come.

Looking Close On Friday-Three
Decided to take my Scorpions outside and photograph them in the beautiful sunshine. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain!
Three-banded Plover (Charadrius tricollaris), Senyati Camp, Botswana, April 2023.
This species is a small wader, resident and generally sedentary in much of East Africa, southern Africa and Madagascar (subspecies Ch.t. bifrontatus). It occurs mainly on inland rivers, pools, lakes and pans, frequenting their exposed shores. Probably feeds by night, as well as by day. Often solitary, but also mixes with other small waders; occasionally in loose flocks, rarely up to 40 birds. Three-banded Plover is solitary and territorial species. Territory usually along shoreline, covering 80–100 m, sometimes two territories, one for nesting and the other for feeding. Nest situated in sand or dry mud, close to water. Frequently double-brooded, female starting second brood well before first brood fully-fledged. Species is not globally threatened (Least Concern). Population in eastern and southern Africa estimated at 70,000–130,000 individuals (Birds of the world).
They say that when the moon looks like this a girl can make three curtsies for the moon and make three wishes, which will
come true. If I have tried? Of course. Did it work? No.
Three trees stand like quiet guards, standing watch under a winter sky.
The scene looks serene but while taking this picture, waiting for the clouds to move into the position I wanted, the quiet was randomly disturbed by duck hunters off in the distance.
The plus to this noise was the fact that every time a shot rang out, the birds that were roosting in one of the three trees would fly off then return after several minutes. This allowed me to get them in flight as they returned to the tree once again.
With the promise of thunder storms in the forecast I headed for the Lincolnshire Wolds in search of dramatic skies. First stop was here looking down on St James's Parish Church in Louth, a composition I spotted a few weeks ago on a long walk and thought at the time it just needed a more interesting sky or sunrise. Hey presto I got the sky, sunrise will have to wait for the shorter days.
Interesting fact, the church has the 3rd tallest spire in the uk...most of its 287ft missing in this shot.....
Piles of stones reputedly built to commemorate the deaths of three men in a snowstorm. They are built on top of a Bronze Age burial mound.
Three Squares Cafe, which featured in the 90's TV series "Harry" starring Michael Elphick, with a ladies & gentlemens hairdressers on the upper floors. Renowned for their "breakfast in a bun" & said to be the oldest cafe in town.
As people gathered around the super maxi yacht Palm Beach, these three kayakers were enjoying the perfect summer conditions.
Palm Beach finished 5th in the line honours. As of today, 89 yachts have finished the race with the last yacht expected to arrive by January 3.
Double-handed yacht BNC, from New Caledonia, is the current favourite to secure the overall victory, with a handicap time of 4 days, 1 hour and 2 minutes. But the drama isn't over yet, because another yacht has lodged a protest which must be heard before the George Adams trophy is awarded.

LATEST UPDATE: RACE DECIDED BY PROTEST
In a sensational development BNC has been penalised 1 hour and 5 minutes for a breach in the rules of rigging a spinnaker. The international jury meeting at the Royal Hobart Yacht Club decided in favour of the protest made by NSW yacht Min River. Min River is now awarded the race on handicap, with BNC relegated to second place overall.
Jiang Lin now becomes the first female skipper to win the Sydney to Hobart overall.
