Decided to take my Scorpions outside and photograph them in the beautiful sunshine. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain!

Three-banded Plover (Charadrius tricollaris), Senyati Camp, Botswana, April 2023.

This species is a small wader, resident and generally sedentary in much of East Africa, southern Africa and Madagascar (subspecies Ch.t. bifrontatus). It occurs mainly on inland rivers, pools, lakes and pans, frequenting their exposed shores. Probably feeds by night, as well as by day. Often solitary, but also mixes with other small waders; occasionally in loose flocks, rarely up to 40 birds. Three-banded Plover is solitary and territorial species. Territory usually along shoreline, covering 80–100 m, sometimes two territories, one for nesting and the other for feeding. Nest situated in sand or dry mud, close to water. Frequently double-brooded, female starting second brood well before first brood fully-fledged. Species is not globally threatened (Least Concern). Population in eastern and southern Africa estimated at 70,000–130,000 individuals (Birds of the world).

Thank you very much for all your nice visits, comments and favourites! ❤

With the promise of thunder storms in the forecast I headed for the Lincolnshire Wolds in search of dramatic skies. First stop was here looking down on St James's Parish Church in Louth, a composition I spotted a few weeks ago on a long walk and thought at the time it just needed a more interesting sky or sunrise. Hey presto I got the sky, sunrise will have to wait for the shorter days.

Interesting fact, the church has the 3rd tallest spire in the uk...most of its 287ft missing in this shot.....

Piles of stones reputedly built to commemorate the deaths of three men in a snowstorm. They are built on top of a Bronze Age burial mound.

Three Squares Cafe, which featured in the 90's TV series "Harry" starring Michael Elphick, with a ladies & gentlemens hairdressers on the upper floors. Renowned for their "breakfast in a bun" & said to be the oldest cafe in town.

The Legion of Honor, part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, has an outstanding collection of about 70 sculptures by Auguste Rodin. The Three Shades occupy a place of honor in the Alma de Bretteville Spreckels gallery, named for the founder of the Legion.

I am looking forward to seeing more Rodin sculpture in Paris -- we leave next week and will be in northern France most of October.

Hope you have a great Sunday! Thank you all for your visits, comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

It was quite foggy when we got up this morning but as it is Pannage time in the Forest we thought we would go out anyway to see if we could spot any pigs. We ended up seeing about 30 dotted along our short route

Pannage, also known as Common of Mast, is the right of commoners to release their domestic pigs onto the open forest to forage for fallen acorns, chestnuts and beech mast. It’s a custom that dates back to the time of William the Conqueror, who founded the New Forest in 1079. These spiky, nutrient-rich snacks are harmless to pigs, but toxic in large quantities to the New Forest ponies and cattle who roam year-round - which is why the pigs are so important.

Each autumn, around 600 pigs and piglets snuffle through the undergrowth, clearing the forest floor in a way that’s both natural and vital. It’s the only time of year they’re allowed to roam freely - the rest of the year, they return to their smallholdings under the care of their commoner owners.

They may look like normal size leaves, but these are miniature Oak leaves growing off of that single little stem that has broken out from the trunk of the tree.

This tree is in my landscape and these triplet beauties caught my eye as I was cutting the grass yesterday.

In the house I went, grabbed my macro lens, and captured them from several angles. Here is the result.

What is it about autumn leaves that are so beautiful?!

These three bells were made in 1668, 1755 and 1708. They are three of six in St Michael's church in Oxford, UK and it is said that if all six were rung full circle, they would be too heavy for the 1000 year old tower to support, so they are now hung 'dead' for chiming only.
