Weathervane Playhouse in Akron, Ohio, presents Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" -- live on stage from Jan. 29 to Feb. 15.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Set during the early 1950s, "A Raisin in the Sun" tells the timeless story of one family’s grasp for a piece of the American Dream — and the explosive backlash that erupts when they seek to become the first black family to move into an all-white neighborhood.
The play revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Youngers, a black family living in a cramped apartment in Chicago’s racially segregated Southside neighborhood. The family’s struggle for dignity and their quest for a better life shape the powerful drama in this ground-breaking masterpiece of the American theater
Younger family matriarch Lena (whom everyone calls “Mama”) is the strong, moral heart of her clan, but she clashes frequently with her extended family. The family’s “man of the house” is her son Walter Lee, who works as a chauffeur but remains frustrated by his dead-end position in both life and the workplace. Walter’s wife is Ruth, who masks her discontent by directing all her energies toward her husband and their young son, Travis. Walter’s sister, Beneatha, is a young dreamer who dabbles in various hobbies and activities but embraces a strong desire to become a doctor.
When the insurance money from her deceased husband’s insurance policy comes through, Mama dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood. But Walter Lee, who describes himself as a volcano full of internalized regrets and pipe dreams, has other plans: he wants to buy a liquor store and be “his own man.” Meanwhile, Beneatha wants to spend the money on her medical schooling. The tensions within the family and the blatant prejudice they receive from outside their home combine to shape the rich dramatic texture in this seminal American play.

“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.”
Jim Valvano quotes (American basketball coach, Coach of North Carolina State U., 1980-1990; won NCAA championship, 1983 1946-1993)

Christ Church Cathedral (or more formally, The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity) is the cathedral of the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough and the cathedral of the Ecclesiastical province of the United Provinces of Dublin and Cashel in the Church of Ireland.
It is situated in Dublin, Ireland and is the elder of the capital city's two mediæval cathedrals, the other being St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Christ Church is officially claimed as the seat (cathedra) of both the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic archbishops of Dublin. In practice, it has been the cathedral of only the Church of Ireland's Archbishop of Dublin, since the English Reformation. Though nominally claimed as his cathedral, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin uses St Mary's in Malborough Street in Dublin, as his pro-cathedral (acting cathedral).
Christ Church Cathedral is located in the former heart of medieval Dublin, next to Wood Quay, at the end of Lord Edward Street. However a major dual carriage-way building scheme around it separated it from the original medieval street pattern which once surrounded it, with its original architectural context (at the centre of a maze of small buildings and streets) lost due to road-building and the demolition of the older residential quarter at Wood Quay. As a result the cathedral now appears dominant in isolation behind new civil offices along the quays, out of its original medieval context.
The cathedral was founded probably sometime after 1028 when King Sitric Silkenbeard, the Hiberno-Norse king of Dublin made a pilgrimage to Rome. The first bishop of this new Dublin diocese was Dúnán or Donat, and the diocese was at that time a small island of land surrounded by the much larger Diocese of Glendalough, and was for a time answerable to Canterbury rather than to the Irish Church hierarchy. The church was built on the high ground overlooking the Viking settlement at Wood Quay.
The cathedral was originally staffed by secular clergy. The second Bishop of Dublin introduced the Benedictines. In 1163, Christ Church was converted to a Priory of the Regular Order of Arrosian Canons (Reformed Augustinian Rule) by the second Archbishop of Dublin, later Saint, Laurence O'Toole, who adhered to the rule himself; it was subsequently headed by an Augustinian Prior, who ranked as the second ecclesiastical figure of the diocese, and not a Dean, until re-establishment in 1541. This priory, the Priory of the Holy Trinity, became the wealthiest religious house in Ireland, holding over 10,000 acres (40 km2) of property in County Dublin alone, most notable of which were the three home farms held at Grangegorman, Glasnevin and Clonken or Clonkene, now known as Deansgrange.
Henry II attended the Christmas service at the cathedral in 1171. This was supposedly the first time Henry took Holy Communion since the murder of Thomas Beckett by Henry's knights in Canterbury.
in the 1180s, Strongbow and other Norman magnates helped to fund a complete rebuilding of Christ Church, initially a wooden building, in stone, comprising the construction of a choir, choir aisles and transepts, the crypt, and chapels to St. Edmund and St. Mary and St. Lô.
A chapel to St. Laurence O'Toole was added in the 13th century and much of the extant nave was built in the 1230s. Its design was inspired by the Architecture of the English western school of Gothic, and its wrought stones- of a Somersetshire oolite- were sculpted and laid by craftsmen from the same area.
By 1358, the nave of the cathedral was partly in use for secular purposes, and a "long quire" was added, extending the old choir area by around 10 metres.
In 1493, the Choir School was founded.
Queen Mary I of England, and later James I of England, increased Christ Church's endowment. Meanwhile, in 1551, divine service was sung for the first time in Ireland in English instead of Latin. In 1560, the Bible was first read in English.
The cathedral was extensively renovated and rebuilt from 1871 to 1878 by George Edmund Street, with the sponsorship of distiller Henry Roe of Mount Anville.
At the west end of the cathedral is a fully-integrated stone bridge, leading to the former Synod Hall. This Synod Hall, which incorporates the old St Michael's tower, was formerly used for hosting General Synods, and Diocesan Synods for Dublin, Glendalough and Kildare.
It is now home to the Dublinia exhibition about medieval Dublin.
It was a pleasure today to go walking with a very talented young man to search for owls. We found three but they just werent very co-operative(although we darn well went thru some thick brush to find them) I will never wish for snow again..we are getting freezing rain. Hope to see you again over the winter Bill, it was fun!
These are difficult times for the Barn Owl, poor weather over the recent years, Changes in farming over the last 60 years and now a new generation of rodenticides.
When owls eat poisoned rodents, they ingest deadly toxins which cause internal bleeding and ultimately death. Although not all die as a direct result, experts believe the poisons affect their ability to hunt and breed. 8 in 10 Barn Owls have been found to have these poisons in their bloodstreams, but there is a glimmer of hope for this beautiful predator: the government is reviewing how such poisons are used. 3 Barn Owls. Photo from one of my previous Barn Owl projects. They are three young owls I followed from egg to fledging. In the evening they would wait on the top of a large iron gate for the adult owls to come in with a vole. At times they would huddle together between feeds, but when an adult comes in it's a bun fight for the vole. The photo was taken just a week before they set off to find their own Devon valley.. This is the front cover photo on the Barn Owl Trusts new book 'Barn Owl' Conservation Handbook. www.barnowltrust.org.uk/product_list.html?cat=5

wet pipes and concrete, with an added bonus of accumulated leaves, cigarette butts, chewing gum and other garbage.
to repeat myself from another pic: i hate litter and the filth that generate it, which includes the companies who sell their crap in disposable containers, the shops that sell it, and the factories that produce it all. i would love to see a three strikes law implemented.
1st strike: hefty fine, say $500, along with a huge heap of community service time spent cleaning up litter.
2nd strike: heftier fine, say $5000, along with another huge heap of community service time spent cleaning up litter.
3rd strike: wages garnished for life, community service picking up the litter, and perhaps something far more horribly punitive which in my fantasies involves scenarios that would probably be considered cruel and unusual.
This is based on the song black and blue by Being as an Ocean. The song is about love failing. I wanted to round out the story by including some imagery from there other songs where they talk about love overflowing.

Three Cliffs Bay is a bay on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, South Wales. The Bay takes its name from the three sea cliffs that jut out into the bay. Pennard Pill, a large stream, flows into the sea in the middle of the bay.
Richland County. Named for the prominent buttes nearby (featured in a painting done by George Catlin in the 1830's), the Three Buttes community is located about 20 miles west of Sidney. The Three Buttes community hall is pictured. A post office first opened at Three Buttes in 1904 (November 8) with James MacKenzie as the postmaster. The post office was located in the MacKenzie home on the north end of the Three Buttes. In 1908. the post office moved about two miles east, to the home of the next postmaster, Mabelle Prevost. Marion Brown (1916) and James Hendrickson (1917) also served as postmaster before the position was filled by Elva Putnam in 1919. The post office was located in the Putnam home (about six miles northeast of the Three Buttes) until the final closure of the office in 1932 (February 29). Today, the Three Buttes area is dotted with many oil wells as it is located in the heart of the Montana portion of the Bakken oil play.
73082 passes Three Arch Bridge on Saturday 19th December 2015. The Santa specials were allowed 25 mins for the Sheffield Park to Horsted Keynes trip, where with a service train they usually make to run in 15 mins, to enable Santa to 'do his stuff'. Looked like lots of happy kids on the train.
The male Three-wattled Bellbird has a white head, chestnut body, and three long, obvious, blackish-grey wattles at the base of the bill. The female is much more nondescript, lacking the distinct wattles and is yellowish-green overall. Found in high mountain forests, this species is a pronounced altitudinal migrant, wintering in lowland forests. Although silent throughout most of the year, from March through June males of this species give a remarkable, far-carrying “boi-nng,” call from an exposed perch that has been the subject of many studies on vocal communication. Even though this species is known for its loud, piercing call, it is easily overlooked when silent. Only recorded feeding on fruits, the Three-wattled Bellbird may forage by aerial sally or while perched. This species has a restricted range and a small population size of less than 20,000 individuals, which is believed to be declining; due to these factors, the Three-wattled Bellbird has been listed as vulnerable on the IUCN watchlist.
i would have loved to see all these old hotels in their heyday...but there's something strangely beautiful about them now.
