Extreme conditions is an understatement!

Las Fallas, Valencia Spain Spring Festival, the building and burning of the Falla 15th to 19th March. Europe's largest and longest street party, an exuberant, anarchic, round the clock swirl of fireworks, music, explosions and fire that brings an estimated two million visitors to the city. The more than 350 fallas are giant sculptures of papier maché and wood. They satirise celebrities and politicians and local customs. The cremà after midnight on 19th March is when every falla goes up in flames except for one small ninot.

I've been ill for a couple of days so this photo was going to be about being sick, but I'm actually feeling much better today!

Still trying to get the hang of my new studio lights. I feel really hampered by not having much space in my house to shoot in that's clear of clutter, there don't seem to be any bits of blank wall without lots of furniture or other things!

Do you like my sushi pyjamas?

What is it about threes?

I was on Brown's Lake catching some of the biggest rainbow trout I'd ever seen. The fly fishing technique we were using requires one to watch your line like an Osprey. Even glance away for a moment and you may miss a strike.

The broken-to-overcast skies were constantly changing the light on the landscape.

STRIKE - damn, missed another one. Meanwhile, my dad is knocking the crap out of the fish. Helps that he is a pro. I think he may very well be the best fly fisherman in the world

So what is it about these trees that keeps grabbing my attention? It must be that there is three, and only three, on the shoreline. Plus the fact that they are separated by what must be the Golden Mean.

Threes occur everywhere:

the rule of thirds

tall, dark, handsome

win, lose, or draw

eat, drink and be merry

a hop, skip, and a jump

the good, bad, and ugly

ready, set, go

Tom, Dick, and Harry

wine, women, and song

lock, stock, and barrel

hook, line, and sinker

stop, look, and listen

morning, noon, and night

mind, body and spirit

thought, word, and deed

For some reason the brain finds it easier to assimilate and process groups of three.

Four seems to be more of a static representation.

Two is either balanced or imbalanced, either aligned or confrontational.

One is lonely and wanting for more.

So why three?

I found a post somewhere on the net by Robert ??? as follows:

The philosopher Pythagoras thought three was the perfect number, expressive of beginning, middle and end. The idea of Trinity is central to many religions. The Hindu Trimurti is made up of Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Preserver), and Siva (Destroyer). The ancient world was ruled by Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Three-forked lightning, the trident and a three-headed dog figure with these characters. The Fates are three, the Furies three, the Graces three, the Harpies three, the Muses were three times three. In Greek mythology a threatening and critical Pythoness sat on a three-legged stool called a tripod.

Man is traditionally threefold (body, soul and spirit), as is our world (earth, sea and air). Historic enemies of man have been the world, the flesh and the devil. Today's realistic enemies seem to be fear, ignorance and hatred. The Christian graces are Faith, Hope and Charity. The kingdoms of Nature are animal, vegetable and mineral. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue.

So for whatever reason, I liked these three trees. And as always, I had my camera with me. I waited for the lake to settle, the light to improve, set my fly rod down, and captured these three trees.

And for what it is worth, I caught three fish that day.

I was on a little photo strawl and the sunset was awesome yet another time. So I started looking for new angles, perspectives to shoot the frankfurt skyline. I found this.. I hope you like it!

I love watching the birds going to work in the morning and coming home in the afternoons - I just love sitting out on the step at those times of day when we are at anchor - love the light, love the scenery as it changes from day to day. We are anchored in a place called Doubtful Bay which is about half way between Albany and Esperance on the southern part of Western AUS, part of the Southern Ocean and the beginning to the Great Australian Bight. The wind is howling but I am still taking in my view - besides the birds going to work, the anchored boat, the sky and sloppy sea, there are three hills that I can see; the green hillside by the white sandy beach and I believe that the other two are (from left to right) Mt Bland and part of the Barren Mountain Range in the distance.

Geldkikkers brengen welvaart in je leven

Three legged Frog

Amarbayasgalant Monastery is one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centers in Mongolia. The monastery complex is located in the Iven Valley near the Selenge River, at the foot of Mount Büren-Khaan in Baruunbüren sum (district) of Selenge Province in northern Mongolia. The nearest town is Erdenet which is about 60 km to the southwest.

Amarbayasgalant was one of the very few monasteries to have partly escaped destruction during the Stalinist purges of 1937, after which only the buildings of the central section remained. Many of the monks were executed by the country's Communist regime and the monastery's artifacts, including thangkas, statues, and manuscripts were looted, although some were hidden until more fortunate times.

Today, only 28 temples remain. Restoration work began in 1988 with funds provided by UNESCO and private sources and some of the new statuary was commissioned in New Delhi, India.

This is the old Log Cabin Association Consolidated School, located atop a knoll overlooking US 74-441 at the community of Barker’s Creek, near Dillsboro, North Carolina. The building was one of three elementary schools constructed between 1949 and 1952, which consolidated the last remaining rural wood-frame one-room and two-room schools in the county, with the other two schools, with similar designs, being located at the communities Addie (Scott’s Creek Township) and Argura/Sols Creek (Canada Township). The Log Cabin School was the first to be built, with construction starting in 1949 due to the condemnation of the old Barker’s Creek School in 1947, due to how dilapidated it had become. The Log Cabin School opened in 1950, and Consolidated the schools at Dicks Creek (now Dicks Creek Baptist Church), Wilmot, and Barker’s Creek into a single, modern facility with a gymatorium, library, cafeteria, bathrooms, central heating, and separated classroom spaces, none of which were amenities that existed in the schools it replaced. The modernist building features several long window bays that provide ample light to the interior spaces, with the classrooms having glass block to provide diffuse sunlight, and the building heavily using steel-frame awning windows for ventilation. The school also features some interesting detailing, including curved brick faces at the front entrance, pilaster-like facade elements, and a vertical element of bricks turned at an angle that breaks up the center of the massing of the large brick face of the gym’s facade. The school operated from 1950 until 1980, when, prompted by a drop in enrollment, it was Consolidated with nearby Qualla Elementary School to form Smokey Mountain Elementary School. The school sat vacant, with sporadic activity until 1995, when the deteriorated structure was renovated and converted into an antique mall. However, the building was put up for sale about 13 years ago, and has since sat vacant and fallen into serious disrepair, with a failed roof and vandalism taking their toll. It needs serious renovation to be used, but thankfully, it is a well-built structure that is still sound.

The school remains on the market, though pictures in the listing are inaccurate as to its current state, which has severely deteriorated from the pristine building it was in 2006, when the antique mall closed. The building needs a new roof, replacement window glass, a thorough cleaning, paint job, new ceilings and floors, and new doors if it is reused. Electrical systems in the building were stolen by scrappers, and need to be completely replaced. Some plumbing fixtures remain, but they have been subject to severe vandalism over the decade the building has sat empty. As for the HVAC system, the building did at one time have a boiler, installed in 1950, and an air conditioning system that was installed circa 1995, but both of these systems are likely non-functional due to water damage and vandalism, and will need to be replaced. The wooden interior structures in the gym also need to be torn out, along with all electrical fixtures. All of this will need to be done if the building is to be used again, but it does have the upside of being a solid concrete, brick, steel, and concrete masonry structure that has taken the elements on remarkably well, and can still be salvaged with the right resources and care put into it. The building is by no means unstable or in a state of collapse, as it was built very solidly, and could make a great adaptive reuse opportunity for the right person or organization. I hope to see this building saved and reused, as it is one of only a few mostly intact modernist school buildings from the late 1940s/early 1950s left in this part of the state.

I've been falling in love with photography again. It's such a relief, maybe it's the spring time, or the fact that summer is so close I can almost taste it.

The grass is greener, the air is warmer and I feel inspiration running through my veins again.

I absolutely love taking pictures. 100%- with my whole heart right now. I get very frustrated easily, today, the bottom left picture was supposed to be the main one, but I couldn't expand it to the square crop I wanted it to be. So I just combined three photos that I took today... got some really cute, senior-esque pictures :) :)

Which reminds me, MINNESOTANS, I will be home May 19th through the 30th if you want a photo shoot let me know :) I plan on doing at least a couple while I'm home to help pay for some expenses! So if you would like to help my savings increase so I can buy a new camera by the end of summer... that'd be sweet ;)

Feeling very happy right now :)

And have mad spring fever. Woofta. Gotta go study!

Three Garden Shots. Leica M9 Monochrom, 7Artisans 75mm 1.25 lens.

Seen in the Montana Auto Museum in Deer Lodge. This museum was once known as the Towe Ford Collection. Towe had tax trouble and had to sell his cars, but friends bought many of them at auction and put them back into the museum.

These tri-five cars were not part of that collection, but there sure are a lot of them. All the cars on display are very nice examples. Unfortunately, space is tight and they are displayed as if in a parking garage.

The museum is in part of an old prison, which is very famous for being haunted. All the ghost searchers have been here. I did not take the prison tour.
