The Three Lakes Trail intersects with NY Rt 301 by Canopus Lake.

What is it about threes?

I was on Brown's Lake catching some of the biggest rainbow trout I'd ever seen. The fly fishing technique we were using requires one to watch your line like an Osprey. Even glance away for a moment and you may miss a strike.

The broken-to-overcast skies were constantly changing the light on the landscape.

STRIKE - damn, missed another one. Meanwhile, my dad is knocking the crap out of the fish. Helps that he is a pro. I think he may very well be the best fly fisherman in the world

So what is it about these trees that keeps grabbing my attention? It must be that there is three, and only three, on the shoreline. Plus the fact that they are separated by what must be the Golden Mean.

Threes occur everywhere:

the rule of thirds

tall, dark, handsome

win, lose, or draw

eat, drink and be merry

a hop, skip, and a jump

the good, bad, and ugly

ready, set, go

Tom, Dick, and Harry

wine, women, and song

lock, stock, and barrel

hook, line, and sinker

stop, look, and listen

morning, noon, and night

mind, body and spirit

thought, word, and deed

For some reason the brain finds it easier to assimilate and process groups of three.

Four seems to be more of a static representation.

Two is either balanced or imbalanced, either aligned or confrontational.

One is lonely and wanting for more.

So why three?

I found a post somewhere on the net by Robert ??? as follows:

The philosopher Pythagoras thought three was the perfect number, expressive of beginning, middle and end. The idea of Trinity is central to many religions. The Hindu Trimurti is made up of Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Preserver), and Siva (Destroyer). The ancient world was ruled by Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Three-forked lightning, the trident and a three-headed dog figure with these characters. The Fates are three, the Furies three, the Graces three, the Harpies three, the Muses were three times three. In Greek mythology a threatening and critical Pythoness sat on a three-legged stool called a tripod.

Man is traditionally threefold (body, soul and spirit), as is our world (earth, sea and air). Historic enemies of man have been the world, the flesh and the devil. Today's realistic enemies seem to be fear, ignorance and hatred. The Christian graces are Faith, Hope and Charity. The kingdoms of Nature are animal, vegetable and mineral. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue.

So for whatever reason, I liked these three trees. And as always, I had my camera with me. I waited for the lake to settle, the light to improve, set my fly rod down, and captured these three trees.

And for what it is worth, I caught three fish that day.

Geldkikkers brengen welvaart in je leven

Three legged Frog

Amarbayasgalant Monastery is one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centers in Mongolia. The monastery complex is located in the Iven Valley near the Selenge River, at the foot of Mount Büren-Khaan in Baruunbüren sum (district) of Selenge Province in northern Mongolia. The nearest town is Erdenet which is about 60 km to the southwest.

Amarbayasgalant was one of the very few monasteries to have partly escaped destruction during the Stalinist purges of 1937, after which only the buildings of the central section remained. Many of the monks were executed by the country's Communist regime and the monastery's artifacts, including thangkas, statues, and manuscripts were looted, although some were hidden until more fortunate times.

Today, only 28 temples remain. Restoration work began in 1988 with funds provided by UNESCO and private sources and some of the new statuary was commissioned in New Delhi, India.

Three ice-fishing houses on the frozen--in this area--Androscoggin River that marks the border between Topsham and Brunswick Maine. The river does have a significant tidal activity--I wonder what is like to be in one of these waiting for a fish to bite while the tide is raising or lowering the ice level.

I've been falling in love with photography again. It's such a relief, maybe it's the spring time, or the fact that summer is so close I can almost taste it.

The grass is greener, the air is warmer and I feel inspiration running through my veins again.

I absolutely love taking pictures. 100%- with my whole heart right now. I get very frustrated easily, today, the bottom left picture was supposed to be the main one, but I couldn't expand it to the square crop I wanted it to be. So I just combined three photos that I took today... got some really cute, senior-esque pictures :) :)

Which reminds me, MINNESOTANS, I will be home May 19th through the 30th if you want a photo shoot let me know :) I plan on doing at least a couple while I'm home to help pay for some expenses! So if you would like to help my savings increase so I can buy a new camera by the end of summer... that'd be sweet ;)

Feeling very happy right now :)

And have mad spring fever. Woofta. Gotta go study!

I recently spent some time trekking through Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. This park has some spectacular rock formations resulting from years of geological erosion. A strong thunderstorm was rolling into the area when I was at the park, and I managed to capture this image of one of the rock formations right before the clouds obscured the sunlight. I was fortunate to get this shot.

Once upon a time there was a mother pig who had three little pigs.

The three little pigs grew so big that their mother said to them,

"You are too big to live here any longer.

You must go and build houses for yourselves.

But take care that the wolf does not catch you."

But these three little pigs were so brave, they did not build any house,

they just ate the wolf.

Seen in the Montana Auto Museum in Deer Lodge. This museum was once known as the Towe Ford Collection. Towe had tax trouble and had to sell his cars, but friends bought many of them at auction and put them back into the museum.

These tri-five cars were not part of that collection, but there sure are a lot of them. All the cars on display are very nice examples. Unfortunately, space is tight and they are displayed as if in a parking garage.

The museum is in part of an old prison, which is very famous for being haunted. All the ghost searchers have been here. I did not take the prison tour.

Bread for the table. These had their initial mix in the food processor (in three batches) and then treated as one large dough. Sourdough, wholewheat, rye, dash of wheatbran, whiteflour, salt, water. Risen overnight--over two nights, actually, if you count the initial sponge. I mixed the sourdough with a cup of water, a dash of bran and a cup of whiteflour one evening; next morning I added the rest of the ingredients and gave it a slow rise all day with a few hand kneads during the day; into the fridge at night. Next day brought to room temp, kneaded briefly, and shaped. Baked on the floor of the hot Aga oven. For breakfast toast, sandwiches, etc.

Straight from the camera; morning light.
