Taken during the Lytham 1940s Weekend 2024 (Lytham, Lancashire, August 2024)

Full album: Lytham 1940s Weekend (August 2024)

The Lytham 1940s Wartime Weekend took place between Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18, 2024.

The two day spectacle saw thousands of people re-live the 1940s wartime era with a weekend of forties singing, dancing, weapons displays, historic vehicles, military charities, vintage traders and more.

The Forth Bridge was opened in 1890, having been 8 years in the construction. It was started in the knowledge that, given the poor safety standards of the time, men would die in the process. At its peak, approximately 4,600 workers were employed in the bridge's construction.

As of 2009 it was recorded that 73 men lost their lives in accidents. A memorial on shore records their names and occupations.

Two new bridges have since been constructed nearby: The Forth Road Bridge and The Queensferry Crossing.

For me, this original bridge is the most 'handsome' and characterful. We visited on a late autumn evening and stayed for sunset. The gathering dusk gave a sombre and reflective mood.

You live in my memory,

though we've never met.

I know you are out there somewhere and haven't found me yet.

Rest assure I will be waiting,

when you finally come my way...

Patiently I am waiting, and hoping for that day.

The story goes that the Spaniards brought donkeys to Bonaire to assist with salt production. When donkeys were no longer needed, they went feral on the island. They are now controversial. To some they damage the environment, eating native plants and preventing reforestation. To others, they are a part of history, not to mention adorable and gentle animals.

This donkey was all alone on a vast Salina. My camera is practically sitting on the ground because I wanted to get the separation betwen the brown donkey and the surrounding terrain. Fortunately, the donkey just watched me as I did my thing. To me the clouds look like those "thought clouds" in cartoons. If so, this donkey has a lot on its mind.

Beauty is a fleeting and ever-changing flower, but its essence is eternal.

Many thanks for the comments and faves!

when i saw this prompt, i thought: farmer’s market. i took along my camera, but i felt dis-ease. i didn’t want to interrupt or invade the interactions. i’m uncomfortable taking photographs of strangers or inserting my camera into community events. i wondered if i should “push through” this discomfort, but then i realized, no, i don’t want to. so i’m stretching this particular theme to include the binding and bonding of the natural world. i found this dragonfly on a daisy in my backyard. for a few precious moments, we all bonded.

[29:52, take a photograph that depicts the binding and bonding of people local to you]

Before starting a journey, there's always one last thought. You can almost see it, touch it. But this last thought stays on the dock as the ship sets sail. And we stare at each other, knowing that as soon as one of us looks away, the other will be forgotten. And there's no way back.

This little girl was looking at a wall picture and enjoying herself. I think she had realized that I was going to capture her, but pretended not to see me.Then, I noticed her face slightly changed.

I think her mind did not let her see what her eyes wanted to see.
