Think of your camera's sensor (or film) as a projection screen. Direct a beam of light onto odd shaped transparent material such as plastic or glass so that the refracted pattern of light goes into your (lensless) camera.
Note - never aim a laser directly at the sensor!
The National Wallace Monument on Abbey Craig above the Carse of Stirling in Scotland was erected in memory of Scotland's greatest hero, Sir William Wallace, who, in 1297 at the Battle of Stirling Bridge defeated the English army and "sent them homewards to think again".
Fabulous 20 page book of self-portraits by artist Mary Bogdan. "This series of intimate photographs has been a long time coming... it was my sister who was the "pretty one"... the "thin one"... the "smart one"... I grew up in her shadow... I was her little sister... never quite matching up to her, never able to be mom's "favorite"...
These are painful thoughts, years of feeling self-loathing... today I took these photos of myself with love and forgiveness, and thoughts of "I am beautiful"... chubby, but beautiful... Feeling deep pains as I write this... but today is the day I fight back and say to my mother "It's OK to be fat"... It's beautiful if you feel beautiful inside, if you are loved deeply by a wonderful man, and if you love yourself enough to forgive yourself for being "fat".... I think these photos of myself are full of love and beauty... that's how I feel about [ME].... today...."

When I think of sand dunes and photography, I think black and white. The natural white environment coupled with shadow areas is just made for B/W interpretation. Here are my attempts to capture the beauty of White Sands National Park in this medium. Most are shot in hard light, but some are early or late in the day, some even approach high key. White Sands looks great in any wardrobe.
In late October, I made a trip to New Mexico to shoot the dunes at White Sands National Park. I hooked up with my close friend and photographer, Sandra Herber. www.flickr.com/photos/sandraherber/ We were at White Sands four days, made eight excursions into the dunes, hiked over 20 miles and shot close to 2,000 photos between us.
We are posting our images at the same time and it will be interesting to see how we handled being in the same locations together. For safety reasons and for the fun of it, we hiked the dunes together, sometimes pointing our lenses in the same direction, other times wandering apart. I am sure we got some similar shots, but it will be interesting to see those that are different as we each have our own way of looking at things, as well as having different focal length coverage. Then there is the processing aspect.
To say White Sands is magical is an understatement. As photographers, we talk about the light, emphasize the light, are critical about the light. The dunes at White Sands react in amazing ways to the change in light, offering different looks, revealing various personalities. It is this diversity of the dunes that I wanted to capture then, and present here now.
It’s been a lot of years since the Yellow Pages were pink and in this day of online access to everything you thought were important, even the yellow ones may eventually pass into history. But this wonderful pink door at West End in Brisbane caught my attention some time back. The house had been recently renovated and it was very fetching!

As I think back over the past year one of my most memorable trips was to the Subway in Zion National Park. This is a place I definitely want to revisit but with so many beautiful places on this Earth it will have to it will just have to wait it's turn!
I typically use some hdr in my images but the light was uniform enough in the Subway itself that this one is from a single raw exposure.

When it is quiet
and you are alone
do you find peace?
Breathing in the
cool fresh air
clearing out the
residue of chaos
having the solitude
to search within
and find the answers
to questions in your heart
take the time
to be alone
to listen
to breathe
and to know.
peace can be found
when you need it.
Maybe, she thinks, maybe she'll swim with her head this time. Focus on the start, the turns, the way the water moves around her. Maybe she'll try it.
But then she realizes that, no, her head will not help. Only her heart will get her there and back. She will listen to her muscles, listen to them scream and recoil and burn, but her heart will tell her not to stop. Not to look back. She will do it.
Nothing can save her now. Her coach can whisper, "One breath down, one back," or "Go out fast. They won't be able to catch up," and she can hear but won't listen. Not even those three miles she did daily, those countless hours in the pool and time spent alone with only her thoughts.
Only her heart will help her, push her. She presses on her goggles hard, makes them dig into her eyes. Pulls down on her cap. Jumps around to get loose.
"Championship heat, step up. Take your mark... Beep!"
She leaves it all in the pool. Trusts herself and no one else. Hits the wall and looks up at the time,
smiling.

I think he's a burmese mix. Under a year old, Jack is still all kitten. Very curious by nature, fun loving and affectionate. Everything you'd want in a cat. =) Love him... been watching him and his litter mate Jill on and off since last february.

I think tumbleweeds will be the theme of 2023 where I live. The winds we have been having all winter have toss them back and forth between Kansas and Texas. This 35 mile wide strip of Oklahoma between those two states is just caught in the middle. Was certainly glad to find some water underneath all those tumbleweeds and I liked the reflection.

If you think about it, this funny-looking coat and hat rack makes a lot of sense. Unlike smaller, more pointed hangers, the balls won't distort or mark your clothing items...or worse--tear the fabric if the clothing item is quite heavy.
