... Think you've got a point there, Cid."
As I didn't know what sort of a day I'd have after Graham fell yesterday, I was digging into the Happy Hippy bag as soon as I could for an emergency back up photo.
The weather hasn't been great either today, not raining, but overcast and dull, so I thought I'd give going out a miss and use my spare photo, which I had fun taking anyway and liked how it came out.
PS: Graham is feeling bruised and a bit weak, but he's been resting, sleeping for most of the day and I'm hoping that he'll be more like his old self by tomorrow.
Thank you all for asking.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)
I think the past few weeks have been my longest time ever unable to get out with the camera, or spend much time online, but I was pleased to find this one hidden away on a memory card from the summer.
Looking forward to time off work soon, and maybe some frosty mornings!
I think that this dog is the one I saw in 2014, see photo below:

I saw her a few months ago and she looked very unwell, with sore patches on her tummy and chest. Today her chest looked a lot better, but I couldn't see her tummy. She seems to live around where she's lying, but I'm not sure if she's looked after very well. I'd take her home, if I had the space, poor darling.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)
I think I'm finally caught up on client work, and work for Hannah's school (but only because of a snow day)...what a wonderful blessing it is to get to shoot something for myself... this was supposed to be a shot of the Boo, but she horned in...if anyone is worried, she was outdoors for less than a minute...she thought if she wore her coat, no one would know she had a pretty dress on...
Miss ya, hope the new year is treating everyone well...
Think this is called “Leaf Spirit”.
As the name partly explains, this is a group of lakes which has had various different items of art added around. Could spent a day here with the other attractions and cafe etc.
This one was quite spooky - the size of this piece is five or six foot high.
So there are great opportunities for creative photography. The location is out in the sticks, but not that far from Blandford Forum, Dorset.
I think the people of Smirisary found it. There, they live in total isolation. No roads. No electricity. An amazing view out over the ocean towards the islands of Eigg and Rum, and to the right, Skye.
I was disturbed, once, by a high flying jet on its way towards the sun, a transatlantic airliner probably. And by a few midges. No, I'm not on holiday: I live here.
I think that you can all tell that I am in a philosophical mood these days. There are so many complications in life that we, the people, have to solve and surely at the forefront is our inability to let go of the negative forces and embrace the positive ones. It is time for us to collectively come up with good reasons to work together for the better for ALL. In the long run, selfishness does not gain us anything, in fact we lose! Let's find ways to help one another, make the world a smaller place in which all are welcome. It is possible, we can and must do it!!!
Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️
I think this must be 33 ft Epic schooner built in 2014 designed by Ed Louchard. It was built by the Community Boat Project which has sought for over a decade to create the ultimate non-motorized educational vessel. Schooner-rigged, rowing 8 oars and capable of the multi-day unsupported sailing expedition, Epic is an ultimate teaching platform for all ages. Its home port is Port Hadlock, WA. I took this photo at Port Townsend's 2022 Wooden Boat Festival. woodenboat.org/plan-your-visit/

Here I think the blue flowers at lower right are Phacelia tanacetifolia, Tanseyleaf or fernleaf phacelia. We've moved a bit further east on the Crocker Spg road, and the BG slope is also in a previous photo. And this is another photo that (imo) merits some study.
As before, we are seeing microclimate effects of these small shrubs -- foreground shrubs are mostly Ephedra californica; adding Sagebrush in the mid and background.
The pink-violet flowers may be Fremont's phacelia, Phacelia fremontii. Yellow flowers are likely hillside daisies, perhaps with Coreopsis daisies. Carrizo Plain NM
First time I think seeing one of these, thanks to Donald and Charlene for pointing it out.
Bee-flies are fascinating insects that have mastered the art of mimicry. These agile, fluffy, flying creatures look similar to bees, but they are in fact flies. They have only one pair of wings, whereas bees have two, and their most unmistakable feature is a long, straight, straw-like tongue, known as a proboscis.
One of the first bee-fly species seen in spring is the dark-edged bee-fly (Bombylius major), common across Britain and a frequent garden visitor. It has yellowy-brown hair, a long tongue, and darkened wing edges that extend halfway across each wing.
Bee-fly behaviours
One peculiar behaviour displayed by the bee-fly is its slow-moving hover where it lightly touches the ground. It keeps its legs slightly grounded, while slowly and gently brushing the surface with its abdomen – if you look closely, you can see the abdomen creates movements in the sandy surface. This is because the bee-fly is scooping up sand and mud to coat its eggs for camouflage.
This camouflage is important, as bee-flies will lay their eggs in unsuspecting solitary bee burrows, hovering over the burrow entrances before catapulting their eggs inside. As the eggs hatch, the bee-fly larvae spend their time maturing in the nest, eating up the pollen stores that the solitary bees have left for their own young. Although this sounds like bad news for the bees, a healthy population of bee-flies means that you have a good population of bees.
I think most of you who follow my photo journey know of my love of the highlands of Scotland, however, recent weather hasn't been too kind for me to head off that way. What do you do when you can't get to the highlands? Well in my case, I head for the hills of the lowlands. This photo was captured in the Galloway Forest Park which is run by the Forestry Commision. Underneath this little bridge is the Carrick Gala which was flowing harder and faster than I have ever seen before, a testimony to the amount of rain mother nature has thrown in our direction this winter.
I think in every human culture parents, especially mothers, are highly respected and loved. In my flock, among lovebirds, mother Tauno is no execption. She is definitely respected and loved, also by me :), and she is never left alone. There are always either her spouse Lorenzo, or two other younger males, Meri or Pyry, with her. I don't know, if she remembers, who her youngsters are, but from the four of them, Tiuku has very warm relationship with his mother. Tauno is the oldest lovebird in my flock, the undisputed queen of it. I don't know her exact age, but it is somewhere between 10...13 years.
This is a quick wall we did together with Reb and Sterling a cloudy morning somewhere in Brixton..I really enjoyed adding some colour on this one after a long time doing monochrome pieces!

I think this is an immature bird because of the lack of a red head. I can have my mind changed though.
It's time to rest your mind, it's time to everyone think about what happened this year and what you will do to the next year.

Glancing through my gallery you might think that we have an abundance of insect life in our surroundings. Nothing could be further from the truth and I struggle to find much at all day to day, especially at the moment during our anticyclonic gloom. One species that does seem to have done OK is the mother of pearl moth - patania ruralis. As I go around the garden watering with the hose, I inevitably disturb one or two moths and this one flew out yesterday and secreted itself amongst the Japanese azalea leaves. Usually these moths in flight travel fast and disappear before I can pinpoint their position. But I managed to spot this one's hiding place and got a snap or two, even with our dark, grey skies overhead. These mother of pearl moths have emerged from a clump of nettles which we grew in a container pot. Quite often they have flapped back into the nettles which have kindly stung me as I strive for a snap or two. This time however, there were no such hazards.
