Come on little bear, school is starting. I think Mr. Seahorse has a crush on Miss Giraffe.
For Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday theme, back to school, we were asked to use two textures. I combined Aurora and Silence.

7DOS. Texture Tuesday. Vibrant. The heather is quite vibrant, though abbot muted here by the rain.
Xziva's colour is a nice dark blue but in the morning sun she got this golden shine on her .

7 Days of Shooting - Week 15 (w/b 15th October) Barrier: What barriers divide the area where you live, work or visit? Perhaps you have a garden wall, or an ornamental gate. For this week, show us those barriers, including fences, walls, & gates.
The Eiffel Tower on a cloudy morning with the sun just starting to peek through.
It was right down the street from us and we walked there everyday..itis really something to stand under...Of course you can climb to the top but that's really not my style...

I was amazed to see wild blackberries in bloom again, in mid October. In this area the fruit is usually finished in August or early September.

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.
The story...Sunday morning my husband and I were on our way to church from our mountain cabin and we came upon freezing fog so thick it looked like snow. My husband stops the truck and said, "get your camera and get this". I'm dressed and ready for church...but I'm always game for a quick capture even on a muddy country road with church clothes on!
for 7DoS: I'm pretty sure Hub wouldn't like to be seen as textured ... could be worse, we could still be doing worn and weathered ;) ... so I found this one bird of prey on my phone. Surprisingly unflustered by all the close attention.

This was taken on a frosty Saturday morning when the sun made a wonderful appearance…it's been missing pretty much ever since. The weather has been wet and dreary, the girls are hoping for snow…so am I.
I told my husband I was going to need a hovercraft soon because I'm tired of wading through mud to do chores :-) I was getting rather frustrated this morning slopping through all that mud pushing my wheelbarrow of hay but had to apologize to the Lord for my bad attitude. Even in the muddy slop I can rejoice at the fact that I am able to be tromping through all that mud pushing my wheelbarrow and that He has given me a new day…a day to live for him in whatever crosses my path whether that be mud and slop or challenges with my kids or just life in general.
I've been convicted lately that somehow in the midst of whatever struggles come my way, I must still rejoice and find peace in the day that I have been given. Of course working this out is a daily challenge :-) But life is good and ultimately God is good, he is my source of strength. It's when I rely on my own strength that life becomes that much more difficult.
I have been blessed richly in this life. Even to catch the glimpse of the sun on a mostly dreary day is a huge blessing. The question is do I focus on the glimpse of the sun or the dreariness of the day…that is what makes the difference in any given day. Where does my heart lie…in what I have or what I don't have…
"Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare."

Did manage a round of golf this morning and on my return home it was time for a nice juicy satsuma!

The Waterside Woolen Mill is one of the oldest operating woolen mills is the USA. The mill was built on land deeded by the heirs of William Penn to Abraham Oberholtzer in 1785. In 1806 John Snider purchased the land and erected a mill on the banks of Yellow Creek. The mill shut down in the 1960s but was reactivated in 1990 to manufacture traditional Pennsylvania wool blankets. The equipment used in the mill dates from the latter 1800s to the early 1900s. It includes several Compton& Knowles Looms dating from the 1870s. The mill consists of a large three story building with attic.
for 7DoS: the neighbours across the water moved out and left their little boat behind. I don't think the new neighbours are interested in using it.
Taken and edited for Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday. For the before and after come and check out my blog.
For 7DOS texture - you should have heard the leaves rustling as I took this photo - the squirrel was trying to hide some food by burying it under dry leaves. (I was so lucky to see this photo opportunity, I'd planned to do "rustle" but using just autumn leaves.)
It's been snowing all day. I pulled over on my way home from work (literally on the side of the road) while there was still some daylight. I'm still fighting this cold so I had no inclination to do anything elaborate. I really didn't consider doing a facedown here or somewhere else as much as I do love to do them. So, I danced instead. I don't know...standing out in the snow inspired me! Doesn't everyone twirl around and dance in the snow?
I'm so excited that I may be able to put a check mark next to #6 on my list of 13 things I hope to do this year. I'm thinking about taking a couple of days vacation and extending a short trip to NJ for work in a few weeks. I've only ever been to Boston on the east coast, so I'd love some 'must do' suggestions in the NJ/NY area. Maybe a Flickr meet? I'll be in NJ but can relocate when I'm done with my work thing. I'm trying to plan quickly before I book flights in case I'd prefer to fly out from another airport. Suggestions for things to do for 3 or 4 days very welcome.
I accidentally created this texture with the snow bokeh while I was taking my test shots. Unfortunately, I can only use it for this shot. But I think it qualifies for Texture Tuesday anyway! I've now been inspired try to make some snow textures sometime!
Tuesday's truth: Well, you know how I have this bad cold, right? Today the bad sneezing started. What I have to admit is that I'm one of those people who have those obnoxious, loud, long, uncontrollable sneezes. The kind where I find myself balancing on on one foot at the peak of the sneeze. I had everyone at work laughing and shouting, "bless you!" over the cubicles. One guy even walked over from the other side of the department to find out who was sneezing. It was that bad. It happened in Starbucks tonight, too, and everyone stopped! But I really can't help it! Honestly! Luckily for three of them, only one of my children inherited my propensity for loud sneezing. But he and I always have a good laugh over it!
Oh, and I was totally trespassing here. In my rush to setup the shot, I zoomed in and cropped out the sign. And y'all know that I don't shy away from trespassing, right?

for 7DoS: busy day meant I decided to combine two days with this snap of the dog's bed - though I may have got more of the repeating pattern in the shot if I hadn't got so close to it. Hmm- seemed like a good idea at the time ;)
223/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Unfinished":
I really struggled with today's theme, which doesn't mean I couldn't find unfinished things around the house. I just couldn't get past the idea that nothing is more unfinished than ME. So, I knew what I wanted to communicate...but had no clue how to do that. I finally settled on this Bible verse. Philipians 1:6 "He who began a good work in you will complete it until that day.". And here's what that means to me:
The older I get, the more aware I am of the work God wants to accomplish in my heart and mind. The problem is that I'm not entirely cooperative with Him. Thankfully, He doesn't simply abandon me! Instead, like a Crafstman, He is constantly whittling away at my character. Each time I'm challenged by my circumstances, I need to remember that it's God's way of teaching me patience, love, kindness, joy, trust, etc. It's not about me trying to be a better person. Frankly, it's not in me. I lack the power for any kind of genuine, lasting change. It's instead about me recognizing my role. I'm not the Artist (no matter how much I want to be)...I'm the raw, unsightly, rough hunk of wood. Does the wood simply need to try harder to become something beautiful or useful? No...it lies still in the Master's hand and lets Him fashion it for its intended purpose. And it may hurt a little...sometimes it hurts a LOT...but I can still trust Him. He knows what He's doing and, in the end, I will be better for it. So, for now, this is what you see...a messy, flawed, person who is very much a work in progress!
