Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals
this morning, we had a winter weather advisory. snow covers the grass and the trees. but on sunday, there was sunset light streaming through our crabapple tree. this image is my reminder that autumn exists even with snow on the ground.

We did a little lighthouse hunting on Prince Edward Island and found this beauty back in the middle of nowhere. I have no idea where on the Island this was, so I can’t put it on the map. I processed this in Photoshop and textured it with two of my own textures.

I'll run my heart out for you,
Because running is what I love to do.
And all I ask in return, from you,
Is soft hands, and a voice kind and true.
I'll push myself through the barrier of pain,
I'll run like the wind, through sun and rain.
And all I ask is a warm stable,
And hugs and carrots, when you're able.
I'll run to win, a head, a length,
Even when I can feel my failing strength.
And all I ask is an encouraging pat,
When I don't come first, just give me that.
A bucket of water, a manger of grain,
A good rub down, to soothe the strain.
Turn me out in a field of green and gold
And my heart you'll have, it's true and bold.
Had a couple of hours in the sunshine with Jan, taking a few and this was one of mine.

I took this shot last spring at an Easter egg hunt at a tulip farm. I processed it in Photoshop with two of my own textures
It's been a while since I last posted on the "What have you done with the light?" album. Let the game continue...
In February of 2016 I visited a little stretch of beach at the mouth of the Ochlockonee River called Mashes Sands. I wanted to take some shots with the sun rising over the water. When I arrived it was still a little while to first light so I took my camera and tripod and walked back down the road to a marshy area that was separated from the beach by a stand of pine trees. I was in luck because there was a bit of fog on the marsh and as first light arrived it painted some beautiful, soft colors behind the fog. As the sunrise grew near I moved down to the beach to shoot other targets. It was three years before I returned to that spot, but Hurricane Michel had completely rearranged the place. In some ways the changes made it a better place for photographers, but this spot was opened up and the trees are gone. I always take extra time when processing a shot of something that is gone. I processed this image in Photoshop over four days using at least one texture.

There are no oysters to harvest. Most of the oyster boats are gone, but this one is being used by a crabber. Late in the afternoon the birds use it for a roost. This image was processed and textured in Photoshop.
i just read a commencement speech by martin luther king, jr. he gave the address at oberlin college in 1965. fifty years have passed, yet his words still resonate: "human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability. it comes through the tireless efforts and the persistent work of dedicated individuals. without this hard work, time becomes an ally of the primitive forces of social stagnation. we must realize that the time is always right to do right."
how can i “do right” today? how can i bring more kindness, integrity, courage, love, wisdom, and compassion into these uncertain times? these are the questions on my mind and in my heart.
ps: dr. king's speech is wonderful and apt. it's a worthwhile read, especially on the eve of this presidential inauguration. mlk's words are eerily real yet also hopeful.
