To cut a very long story short, the palace and garden complex on known as Alhambra, situated on a hill above Granada, wa started in 1238 with fortifications by Muhammad I, ibn al-Ahmar. Sons Muhammad II and III extended the first complex, with the Partal being added during the latter's reign from 1302-9. Yusuf I reigned about 10 years later; he and his grandson Muhammad V were responsible for the subsequent buildings we encounter today: the Nasrid palaces (Palacios Nazaries) - Mexuar, Comares, and finally de los Leones.

The Grand Canyon National Park Backcountry Office on the South Rim has a copy of Harvey Butchart's hiking map. After we finished our Rim to Rim hike, and had a nice breakfast, we caught a shuttle over here to check out this map.

Canyon Master
The remarkable collection of routes inscribed across this map represent a summation of one man's passion for unspoiled grand Canyon backcountry. When J. Harvey Butchart came to the canyon as a young man in 1945 almost nothing was known about the vast sections of trail-less terrain that comprise the majority of the inner Canyon. During his initial forays below the rim he sensed the potential for exploratory hiking, applied himself systematically to the task at hand, and over the course of 42 years of hard core Canyon walking became a legend among legions of students of the Grand Canyon.
Harvey Butchart began his Canyon career at age 38 when he accepted a teaching position at the state college in Flagstaff . Unknown corners of the Canyon beckoned until inevitable age put an end to canyon exploration at age 80. In between, the raw statistics generated by this human dynamo set a record that will not be surpassed anytime soon: 1024 days out in the Canyon, 12,000 mostly off-trail miles, 116 routes through the Redwall Limestone, 25 first ascents of inner canyon summits, a continuous line of travel from Lee's Ferry to Havasu Creek, and a veritable spider web of obscure routes through the greater Canyon. Butchart lived a life dominated by the world of the Grand Canyon, something of an ideal for today's generation of Canyon hikers.
Harvey was born to missionary parents in Hofei, China in 1907 and returned to the United States in 1920. He graduated from Eureka College in '28 and completed graduate work in 1932 with a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Illinois and spent his entire academic career in Flagstaff, retiring professor emeritus in 1976. Harvey's legacy, over 1000 pages of carefully written route descriptions, maps, and photo collections are part of the permanent collections of the University of Northern Arizona , providing a lasting and invaluable resource for all who seek a deeper understanding of this remarkable place.
Harvey Butchart hiked the final mile on May 29, 2002, age 95. His passing left a void within hte community of Canyon walkers that can never be filled. We can retrace the routes that he pioneered, but the honor of being first will always be his alone. A few week's after Harvey's passing a large gathering of grand canyon addicts convened on the rim to acknowledge a debt. Stories were recounted, a few tears were shed. Ashes were scattered and as the wind carried his essence into his beloved gorge one last time many glasses were raised in tribute to a true Grand Canyon original. Visitors often ask: How long is it going to take to see this place?" For Harvey, the answer was: "A lifetime."

I took your SW5d as a model, and rebuilt as closely as I could, changing only the colour of the textured stripes.
Truth to be spoken I did not try out this texture, hope you can make something of it!

Messier 8, NGC 6523, nebulosa Laguna. Es una nebulosa de emisión situada en la constelación de Sagitario. Está a unos 5.000 años luz. Fue descubierta por Guillaume Le Gentil en 1747.
La nebulosa —asociada a una nube molecular y que forma parte de la asociación estelar Sagittarius OB1— parece tener una profundidad comparable a la de su anchura e incluye cierto número de glóbulos de Bok —nubes de gas y polvo en proceso de colapso para formar estrellas—, algunos de los cuales han sido catalogados por Edward Emerson Barnard cómo B88, B89, y B296. El descubrimiento de cinco objetos Herbig-Haro en el borde sur de la nebulosa (HH893, HH894, HH895, HH896, y HH897) aporta más evidencia a la formación estelar en curso.

El nombre de la nebulosa significa "dividido en tres lóbulos", dado que la caracterÃstica sobresaliente es el aspecto de tres lóbulos brillantes separados por oscuras lÃneas de polvo. La nebulosa TrÃfida es una nebulosa tanto de emisión (tono rojizo, al sur) como de reflexión (tono azulado, al norte). La nebulosa se encuentra aunos 5.500 años luz. Su edad estimada es de 300.000 años, lo que la convierte en una zona de formación estelar extremadamente joven.
Messier 20 es una de las grandes nebulosas gaseosas que hay en la región de Sagitario; se encuentra próxima de la nebulosa de la Laguna (M8). NGC 6544. Es un cúmulo globular de densidad media; su distancia se estima en unos 9.500 años luz, que en su posición corresponde galáctica a una distancia de 20.000 años luz desde el centro de la VÃa Láctea y sólo 325 años luz desde el plano galáctico, lo que lo convierte en uno de los cúmulos globulares más cercanos al plano galáctico. Su pequeño tamaño angular aparente (4’), equivale a unos 10 años luz, con lo que es uno de los cúmulos globulares más pequeños conocidos.
En 1999 se descubrió dentro del cúmulo un pulsar en un sistema binario con un periodo en torno al milisegundo, catalogado como PSR J1807-2459.
NGC 6553. Es un cúmulo globular de pequeño tamaño aparente (4’) y baja densidad estelar situado a unos 23.000 años luz.
En 2015 fue detectada cerca del cúmulo por el telescopio VISTA de ESO como parte del sondeo VVV (VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea Survey) lo que parece una microlente gravitacional (la microlente es una forma de lente gravitacional en la que la luz de una fuente del fondo se curva debido al campo gravitatorio de un objeto que se encuentra en primer plano, creando una imagen amplificada del objeto del fondo). El objeto aumentado por la microlente de NGC 6553 es una estrella gigante roja del fondo. Si este objeto se encuentra en el cúmulo podrÃa ser un agujero negro con el doble de masa que el Sol, lo que lo convertirÃa en el primero de su tipo descubierto en un cúmulo globular. También serÃa el agujero negro de masa estelar más viejo conocido.
IC 4685. Es una nebulosa de emisión, que puede formar parte de la nebulosa M8. Todo el conjunto de nebulosidades de este área del cielo parece que se encuentra ligado fÃsicamente a M8.
NGC 6559. Es una región de formación estelar situada a unos 5.000 años luz, con nebulosas de emisión (roja) y reflexión (azul).
IC 1274. Es una nebulosa de emisión descubierta por Edward Emerson Barnard en 1892.
IC 1275. Es una nebulosa de emisión descubierta por Edward Emerson Barnard en 1892.
B91. Es una nebulosa oscura que discurre al Este de las nebulosas IC 1274 e IC 1275.
M21, NGC 6531. Es un cúmulo estelar abierto descubierto por Charles Messier en 1764. M21 es un cúmulo relativamente joven, con unos 4.6 millones de años de antigüedad y contiene 57 estrellas. Se encuentra a unos 4.250 años luz.
Sh2-34. Es una amplia región de nebulosa HII que se encuentra a unos 4.500 años luz.
Messier 8, NGC 6523, Lagoon nebula. It is an emission nebula located in Sagittarius constellation. It's about 5,000 light-years away. It was discovered by Guillaume Le Gentil in 1747.
The nebula -associated with a molecular cloud and part of the Sagittarius OB1- stellar association appears to have a depth comparable to its width and includes a number of Bok globules - gas and dust clouds collapsing to form stars -, some of which have been cataloged by Edward Emerson Barnard as B88, B89, and B296. The discovery of five Herbig-Haro objects on the southern edge of the nebula (HH893, HH894, HH895, HH896, and HH897) provides further evidence for ongoing star formation.
In the brightest part of the nebula is a structure known as The Hourglass, which is producing intense activity of star formation.
NGC 6530. It is a stellar cluster associated with the Lagoon Nebula, its brightest stars being 9 Sagittarii and HD 165052; Both of spectral type O, are binary stellar systems and the main ones responsible for ionizing and exciting the nebula.
Messier 20, NGC 6514, Trifid nebula. It is an H II region in Sagittarius constellation. It was discovered by Guillaume Le Gentil in 1750. The name of the nebula means "divided into three lobes," since the outstanding feature is the appearance of three bright lobes separated by dark lines of dust. The nebula TrÃfida is a nebula both of emission (reddish tone, to the south) as of reflection (bluish tone, to the north). The nebula is found some 5,500 light years away. Its estimated age is 300,000 years, which makes it an area of extremely young star formation.
Messier 20 is one of the great gaseous nebulae in the Sagittarius region; is close to Lagoon Nebula (M8). At the heart of the nebula have been discovered numerous young stellar objects, protoplanetary discs and Herbig-Haro objects. Of the latter is the remarkable HH399, located at the head of a pillar of dust photoevaporated by the ionizing radiation of the star HD 164492A.
NGC 6544. It is a globular cluster of medium density; Its distance is estimated at about 9,500 light-years, which in its position corresponds galactic at a distance of 20,000 light years from the center of the Milky Way and only 325 light years from the galactic plane, which makes it one of the globular clusters Closer to the galactic plane. Its small apparent angular size (4 '), is equivalent to about 10 light years, making it one of the smallest known globular clusters.

In 2015 it was detected near the cluster by ESO's VISTA telescope as part of the VVV (VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea Survey) which looks like a gravitational microlens (the microlens is a form of gravitational lens in which light from a source Of the background is curved due to the gravitational field of an object in the foreground, creating an amplified image of the background object). The object magnified by the NGC 6553 microlens is a red giant star in the background. If this object is in the cluster could be a black hole with twice the mass of the Sun, which would make it the first of its kind discovered in a globular cluster. It would also be the oldest stellar mass black hole known.
IC 4685. It is an emission nebula, which may form part of the M8 nebula. The whole set of nebulosities in this area of the sky seems to be physically linked to M8.
NGC 6559. It is a region of star formation located about 5,000 light-years, with emission (red) and reflection (blue) nebulae.
IC 1274. It is an emission nebula discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard in 1892.
IC 1275. It is an emission nebula discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard in 1892.
B91. It is a dark nebula that runs to the east of the nebulae IC 1274 and IC 1275.
M21, NGC 6531. It is an open stellar cluster discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. M21 is a relatively young cluster, about 4.6 million years old and contains 57 stars. It is about 4,250 light-years away.
