A surprise at the lunch of the second day of the Singularity University Executive Program, a visit from Tesla who made us test drive the Roadster, in its top configuration.
I test drove this at Available Car in Castle Donington, Leicestershire.
If you are going to have a Volvo estate, then why not have the most nutty one available right?
The XC70 is nutty. 210mm of ground clearance, big plain plastic bumpers, M+S tyres, 4 wheel drive... even the dog guard is standard equipment (its is on gas struts so you can fold it up into the headlining when not required).
However, not is all it seems with this XC70. Its missing an important element that turns a nutty car into a nutty car that doesn't really make sense.

So, this one isn't for us with its missing its 4 wheel drive and in basic trim (for Volvo). A more sensible choice would be the plain old V70.

Test roll through the camera body that apparently has seen no use since 1984. The meter doesn't work, so I used the LightMeter app by David Quiles Amat on my Galaxy Note II.
Disclaimer in regard to focus: WOW this thing's viewfinder is terrible. The waist-level finder is OK, but small. The eye-level finder is practically impossible, plus mine is cracked and filthy inside... Just crossed my fingers and fired the shutter.

August 30, 2012: As part of the requirements for graduation, MIT students must pass a 100-yard swim test or sign up for an introductory swim class during a mandatory session as part of Orientation when they arrive on campus. Students can also complete an optional "boat test," which requires them to tread water for 10-minutes, to be eligible to use the Sailing Pavilion.

Lately me & Dad who share with me z same passion to photography , made a DIY Lighting setup and we are growing it more and more complex , it is just a phase where i am trying to do some neat photos with humble equipments till i get my supa Dupa alienbees ( I am still few bucks short :S )
This setup of 2day's test havent cost us more than 25 bux :D

A 500W floodlight in a shoot-thru umbrella camera left and a huge 1.8m silver reflector camera right 4 fill :)
I thought the cheap macro flash I was trying out (Opteka RL-600) would not be suitable for use with the MPE-65 at high magnifications as it seemed to stick too far forward of the lens thus severely reducing the working distance. However I found I could mount it behind the front of the lens using a ring of camping mat to wedge it on. Facing the twin lights inwards then seemed to work fine.

Testing out a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S ED-IF VR with TC-17E II teleconverter on a very cooperative Willet at Shoreline Lake. Much more fun than shooting test charts any day in my opinion!

Overall the pictures are okay. I don't think I'd be using it that often, the 1/80 shutter speed is just a bit too slow unless you stop and stand still.
Also it likes to eat film.
Testing Lamy ink for review. This is a test on an index card. See the notes for what the bits are. Next pic in the photostream is more testing - same stuff in a Moleskine, and the PigPog Smudge Test.
The plan is to do this same pattern with a few different inks, as a way of comparing. If anyone's got any ideas on better ways of doing it, I'd love to hear them.
Testing out an old Jobi tripod I happened to keep in a box seven years 'just incase' I turn to photography again. It works! I wrapped it round the washing pole to take a photo!

Went to the Dr's for a blood test this morning... think they would have had more luck getting blood out of this guy! Got to go back in a few weeks to try again, I feel like a human pin cushion - sigh!

This shot took a while to capture because people kept walking either from the top of the hill straight to where I was standing, or were simply walking across my field of vision.

A few last minute low light tests using the Fuji X100s camera. A: Quietly in a dark live theatre show 'Little Mercy' B: a dark sunset catching much of the Western sunset opposite the Harbour Bridge from Walsh Bay wharfs.
Testing different lenses for zoom and ease of use.
Think the Sony SEL55210mm on the a6000 is the easiest.

This is a test shot of Bridgelux Vero 18 35W LED module, p/n BXRC-30H4000-F-03. This LED is advertised as having CRI 97 and 4000 lm luminous flux, which is equivalent to characteristics of 150W halogen lamp. Color temperature should be about 3000K.
This photo was taken in complete darkness without any optics covering LED module. Paper with pastel swatches was located in about 100mm from the module and set at 45º to its axis. Camera was set to 3200K color temperature and I had to close the diaphragm pretty much to get this paper properly exposed.
As you can see, color balance is a bit off the uniform in reds, but it's normal for high CRI LEDs because of wider "red hump" in their spectrum. At least, it's not worse than "orange hump" of halogens. 3000K seems to be real number too. Swatches are bright and equally lit, which is impossible with regular LEDs, having CRI 72 or even worse, which is equivalent to cheap fluorescent tubes.
To prevent overheating, I've used HP server CPU passive heatsink, p/n 409498-001 (bought used one from eBay for less than $10). It keeps the LED temperature just above the body temperature, so it's a kind of overhead, which I expected - this heatsink is intended for CPUs with TDP more than 65W. It means, I can use smaller cylindrical one with small (40mm) fan.
