Mitering steel bicycle tubing in an Anvil mitering fixture on a 1963 TOS FN22 milling machine with a new cutter. 100rpm and a slow feed. A wee bit of smoke, but that's just the cutting fluid. Soundtrack: Derail and demise, by Tommy Tokyo & Starving for My Gravy
I thought the cheap macro flash I was trying out (Opteka RL-600) would not be suitable for use with the MPE-65 at high magnifications as it seemed to stick too far forward of the lens thus severely reducing the working distance. However I found I could mount it behind the front of the lens using a ring of camping mat to wedge it on. Facing the twin lights inwards then seemed to work fine.

I'm extremely impressed. I printed this chart from here and took this picture at about 12 feet at 200mm 1/8s with VR on. I'm blown away with how much stabilization the supposedly cheapy VR in the 55-200mm VR lens can provide. I can get a print approaching that sharp at 200mm 1/30s without VR maybe a shot in every 10. To be approaching reliable I would have had to go up a full 3EV to 1/60. (the chart is about 2 inches across.)
So this dude was definitely just a test model for another shoot, but he looked amazing and go figure I'd love some of the shots I took of him more than those from the actual shoot. :s
YN-560 shot into a brolly more or less straight onto the model.
First test with my new underwater video system, unfortunately the test was cut short because I was being attacked by a swarm of crabs that got a hold of the cable and I was afraid they would damage it. I'll have to revise the camera and cable for more protection. I see a lot of potential for not only videos but also for my underwater search and recovery projects.
This is a test shot.
I've never used this new computer before, not shot a photo to edit up in a few years (I'm getting back to this camera thing), Canon's DDP and Photomatix have really improved since I used them about 10 years back.
I'm working on getting me sea leg again,so to speak.
Well Witten-05 production test with coil tubing and dual flares. For reference: the height of the flares is 15m (~50Ft). The flame was even bigger.
I was SO happy I got my camera back after I broke it. I took this test shot and then shut it off to put the picture on my computer. I turned it on again, then turned it off again. But it wouldn't close. I kept getting an error message: Lens Error Restart Camera.
I am so upset. I am going back to the place tomorrow, but I have a feeling I'm stuck with a broken camera and I'm out $50 that could have went toward another camera!

A surprise at the lunch of the second day of the Singularity University Executive Program, a visit from Tesla who made us test drive the Roadster, in its top configuration.

Tested the built in HDR mode of the RX100. This one is quite OOC. I just turned down the yellow in Lightroom a bit.
I normally do not like HDR - but this one looks quite pleasing.
