Photos here were shot using old Canon FL/FD lenses mounted onto the new compact mirrorless full frame Sony Alpha A7 released on November 13, 2013 in Japan. The lenses are all manual focus due to the fact they are old legacy prime lenses. The Canon lenses used for this test:
FD 35mm, f2
FL 50mm, f1.4
FD 135mm, f3.5
FD 135mm, f3.5 (with PL filter)

Ok so first off I know this isn't a fair comparison but just in-case anyone cares this is the difference between a cheap consumer lens (on the right) and a pro grade lens (on the left)
Both pictures were taken at F5 1/60s iso 200 with a SB600 on camera bounced off ceiling set to 1/4
Between lens changing I had a piece of string on the ground to mark where he was standing and where I was shooting from.
So the test is pretty much as accurate as I could make it. Both pictures were shot Jpeg (which I NEVER shoot jpeg but wanted fair results) sooc
So the Image on the left is the:
Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm F2.8G FX
The image on the right is:
Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm VR F4-5.6G DX
The amount of detail in the eyelashes should be enough to demonstrate the difference. But for some reason the DX lens is under exposed.
All that said I know which lens I will always reach for!!!
Tested these brands and some more. Will need some time to round up the results...

A Bristol Siddeley-Maybach MD655 engine, from a BR Western Region Class 52 diesel-hydraulic locomotive, under stationary test at Swindon Works. Taken on an open day, Saturday 13th September 1975. The engineer in charge ...a white-coated, bespectacled, middle-aged man... sat behind the window of a control room at the top of a flight of steps. From time to time he would notch up a handle on his console to increase the engine revs, which were displayed as flickering red numerals on a screen. In the confined space this produced a most satisfying din.
This was one of the most enjoyable photographic expeditions I've ever been part of.
These are test shots from my daughter Lisa's series, 'Into the Woods'.
Lisa was using her iPhone app to take an exposure reading and we used the Canon 600D to test the exposure before taking the images on her Hasselblad 500C.

Test nouveau smartphone en faible luminosité. Les ombres et lumières sont bien définies, les ISO vraiment bien gérés par l'électronique. Je suis vraiment surpris par la qualité.

This is a composite iPhone photo and editing test.
The TOP image is the original iPhone image, and it is typically noisy (view full size to see noise level).
The MIDDLE was edited (levels, color balance) on the iPhone using Photogene iPhone app and still presents the same amount of noise.
The THIRD photo took the previous, Photogene altered image and, using Photoshop, ran a Reduce Noise filter with heavy settings, then doubled the image, blurred the top layer and set it to 'overlay mode' at 66% opacity. This is a pretty common method for making better, softer, smoky images. A much more rich, deep result.
iPhone image editing apps should consider adding noise reduction and automating some of the more common image enhancement tricks beyond just levels, even if they disguise it and call it something else.

Finally, one of the best ways to improve photos on the iPhone is to use an app that looks at the accelerometer to determine when you are moving the least. Try Steadycam. I use it instead of the built-in photo app.
Spent some hours to make an attempt at making a lith-copy of a film negative, on kodalith film.
Procedure:
Exposure time around 4 seconds for a 4/5 copy (durst enlarger 250 watt bulb, 80mm f 16)
Need to develop under inxpection, development time around 2-3 minutes on kodak d8 diluted 1-4. Have to pull it at the right time, or all of the film will go black.
This creates a positive copy, this is again contact copyed on another sample of kodalith film (could possibly try other high contrast film). Exposure for this was 19 seconds, 50cm height, 80mm lens f4, durst 805 250 watt (for contact copy light). Development time 3-4 minutes in diluted lith enlarger. Lith enlarger in tray seems to loose efficiency with time, so also need to visual inspect here.
Goal here is to make a negative that would be possible to print with a silk-print technique, this needs a highcontrast 1-bit picture.

I'm seeing if the geo-coordinates remain when i use the collage iphone app.
These are two figures i have sitting at my desk. A felt luchador and a handmade Mr. T doll.
I don't think the geo-coordinates remained in tact in this photo. A shame.

Testing a reverse macro made from a 28-105 kit old lens using the instructions from Youtube.
Seems to work quite well.
Testing another cheapie but goodie lens I scored.

So this dude was definitely just a test model for another shoot, but he looked amazing and go figure I'd love some of the shots I took of him more than those from the actual shoot. :s
YN-560 shot into a brolly more or less straight onto the model.
I realised i'd not taken any pictures at all with my 18-35, so had to do a test at 18mm, that's it, nothing new to see here.

I've never used this new computer before, not shot a photo to edit up in a few years (I'm getting back to this camera thing), Canon's DDP and Photomatix have really improved since I used them about 10 years back.
I'm working on getting me sea leg again,so to speak.
