58 year-old Sabreliner from Malmen AB, Linköping is now set for retirement in Q4 2023. Used as a testbed for electronics including ultra-wideband ground surveillance synthetic aperture radar, it usually carries long probes, removed for flights over FL22. Acquired in 1980 and only flown for around 20 hrs p/a.

Soon the second Smartron testbed, 192 002, will be renumbered as 80 002. The reason - it has joined PIMK Rail's fleet and has already arrived in Bulgaria.
On the picture above, taken at Dimitrovgrad stationin Serbia, just next to the Bulgarian border, the ex-promotional locomotive waiting for PIMK's 81 972 (193 972) to be coupled at the front of the regular container shuttle from Wels, Austria. And the truth is that it is quite nice to see it wearing the Siemens Smartron promo-livery.

The South Central Florida Express Fort Pierce turn highballs through Port Mayaca with cars for U.S. Sugar's mill in Clewiston, FL. At the helm is HLCX 6341, an SD40R of Southern Pacific heritage. The locomotive has been leased to U.S. Sugar since late 2022 and serves as a testbed for new power on the railroad.

YM-X33 Kvent-4 ‘Ketzal’, Advanced Experimental Multirole Combat Aircraft of the Krypno-Nation Yanza-Meloria
The X33 Kvent-4 was a modified version of the LA-29 fighter produced during the height of the Second Krypno War. The X33 was not constructed until 1947 and was a joint project between Yanza-Meloria, Lanza-Bwisterlund, and the Lanza-Werschew Munitions Factory. Warfare had completely changed during the span of the war thanks to the unchecked hyper-growth of global technology(spurred by the acquisition of the resource-rich tablescrap continents and the dissipation of the Holy Krypnician Empire), and many aircraft were obsolete before they completed their design process. The Ketzal, however, was very different even from planes concurrently designed with it. The X33 featured incredibly unconventional landing gear, and had two completely separate cockpits, placed in such a way to make room for the Werschew-designed centrium-heated high velocity small projectile cannon situated in the front of the plane. The project was ultimately canceled but functioned well as a testbed aircraft.
Though by 1947 it was clear that Lanza-Astrecia was fighting a losing battle against the Allied powers of the Lesser Krypno-Nations, the future of the world was still unclear with the arrival of weapons utilizing the newly-discovered centrium and the unstable alliances between nations. Even many of those who had led the revolt against Holy Krypnicia in 1922 wondered if the Church had been right to forbid the colonization of the tablescrap continents.
This Vossloh DE18 is likely the least interesting loco in the RailAdventure fleet (rivalled by the 2016 Siemens Hercules).

Locomotive Services Limited (LSL) currently operates two iconic AC electric locomotives as part of its heritage fleet: 86101 Sir William A. Stanier FRS (Class 86) and 87002 Royal Sovereign (Class 87). These locomotives were acquired in early 2020 and have been restored to the classic InterCity Swallow livery to haul charter excursions, such as the "InterCity" and "Electric Scot" railtours. Class 86 (86101): This is a high-performance variant (Class 86/1) originally used as a testbed for the Class 87 project. It is now one of the few Class 86s still mainline-certified in the UK.
Class 87 (87002): This remains the only mainline-certified Class 87 in the UK. It was famously the flagship of the West Coast Main Line (WCML) for decades before withdrawal from regular service.

There's no place like home.
CSXT 8536, a rare bird of the first Dash 3 testbed, swings around the rather historic alignment which maintains the feel of the former SOO's East Main for a few feet.
A place I first remember shooting from in 2005, despite being a regular amongst the wye/diamond areas. I would ride SD45's across this segment from time to time as well, with a rather vivid memory of engine sway/yaw one morning due to the switch frog with the late Ed Patten at the throttle.
Nowadays the lure of shooting is less, and reason to frequent New Brighton has also decreased, so today was a nice opportunity to go back to home turf to shoot this guy. Thankfully the sun held on just long enough.

Two of Pratt & Whitney Canada's Boeing 720-023B engine testbeds were Shannon visitors both routing in from Bucharest and out to Gander on the way home, C-FETB was through 28-29/8/1999 and C-FWXI 7-8/4/2000.The former is now preserved at the Canadian Air Force Museum in Trenton.
My personal favorite on this day, the Honeywell International Boeing 752 with the REG N757HW, take off on rwy 8

GBRf's latest paint job, 69014 'EMD Longport' approaches Hook with 6Y48 09.01 Eastleigh yard-Hoo Jcn yard on 16/04/25. The livery inspired by HS4000 'KESTREL' is a tribute to that testbed loco exported to Russia in 1971 and since scrapped.

The Jaguar XK120 is a sports car manufactured by Jaguar between 1948 and 1954. It was Jaguar's first sports car since SS 100 production ended in 1939. The XK120 was launched in open two-seater or (US) roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a testbed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine designed by Jaguar Chief Engineer William Heynes. The sports car caused a sensation, which persuaded Jaguar founder and Chairman William Lyons to put it into production.
