The Bristol 188 was the first Bristol turbojet aeroplane to be built and flown, XF926 being built as second of the three aircraft built to fly,
constructors number 13519.The third aircraft was a static structural test airframe only.
Built as an experimental aircraft capable of reaching and
sustaining twice the speed of sound for long enough to enable steady-state kinetic heating effects on the structure to be experienced and recorded.

Someone asked me if I had a picture of the USS Texas..;) Just happen to have one. I was lucky to get a shot of her because on ot the tour guides told me the ship was being moved soon for repairs and he wasn't for sure that it would be back to where it is now. I have to admit it's not in the best spot. There's nothing around it. The ship has to be your destination and there's not a lot of parking.

USS Texas (BB-35), is a former United States Navy New York-class battleship. She was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914.[7][8]
Soon after her commissioning, Texas saw action in Mexican waters following the "Tampico Incident" and made numerous sorties into the North Sea during World War I. When the United States formally entered World War II in 1941, Texas escorted war convoys across the Atlantic and later shelled Axis-held beaches for the North African campaign and the Normandy Landings before being transferred to the Pacific Theater late in 1944 to provide naval gunfire support during the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Texas was decommissioned in 1948, having earned a total of five battle stars for service in World War II, and is now a museum ship near Houston, Texas. In addition to her combat service, Texas also served as a technological testbed during her career, and in this capacity became the first US battleship to mount anti-aircraft guns, the first US ship to control gunfire with directors and range-keepers (analog forerunners of today's computers), the first US battleship to launch an aircraft,[9] from a platform on Turret 2,[10] and was one of the first to receive the CXAM-1 version of CXAM production radar in the US Navy.
Classic Jaguar XK120 seen and photographed at the 2021 Greenwich Concours Show
The XK120 was launched in open two-seater or (US) roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a testbed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine designed by Jaguar Chief Engineer William Heynes. The display car was the first prototype, chassis number 660001. It looked almost identical to the production cars except that the straight outer pillars of its windscreen were curved on the production version. The sports car caused a sensation, which persuaded Jaguar founder and Chairman William Lyons to put it into production.
Beginning in 1948, the first 242 cars wore wood-framed open 2-seater bodies with aluminium panels. Production switched to all-steel in early 1950. The "120" in the name referred to the aluminum car's 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed (faster with the windscreen removed), which made it the world's fastest production car at the time of its launch. In 1949 the first production car, chassis number 670003, was delivered to Clark Gable.
1951 XK120 Fixed Head Coupe
The XK120 was ultimately available in three versions or body styles, first as an open 2-seater described in the US market as a roadster (OTS) then as a fixed head coupé (FHC) from 1951 and finally as a drophead coupé (DHC) from 1953, all two-seaters and available with Left (LHD) or Right Hand Drive (RHD). However, certain Special Equipment roadster and fixed head coupe cars were produced between 1948 and 1949 denoted by an 'S' preceding the chassis number. These Special Equipment cars were sold as an early production build for enthusiasts.
A version with a smaller engine (2-litre 4-cylinder) designated the XK100 and intended for the UK market was cancelled prior to production.
On 30 May 1949, on the empty Ostend-Jabbeke motorway in Belgium, a prototype XK120 timed by the officials of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium achieved an average of runs in opposing directions of 132.6 mph with the windscreen replaced by just one small aero screen and a catalogued alternative top gear ratio, and 135 mph with a passenger-side tonneau cover in place. In 1950 and 1951, at Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, a banked oval track in France, open XK120s averaged over 100 mph for 24 hours and over 130 mph for an hour. In 1952 a fixed-head coupé took numerous world records for speed and distance when it averaged 100 mph for a week.
XK120s were also highly successful in racing and rallying.
1937 Cord 812 Convertible -
In 1929, industrialist E.L. Cord introduced the mighty Duesenberg Model J, advertised as Finest Motorcar But he also showcased a new car, a testbed for radically new automotive innovations, much like Preston Tucker would do 20 years later. This was the Cord L-29, the first front-wheel-drive car sold to the American public. Its long, low, sleek appearance was popular for its styling and superb handling, but it was only a start.
For four years he collaborated with his engineers and designers, including Duesenberg styling genius Gordon Buehrig. Features for the new car included a pre-selector transmission (later used in the Tucker), hidden fuel-filler door, independent front suspension, no running boards, pontoon fenders, disappearing headlights, radio, variable-speed windshield wipers, and a wrap-around chrome grille. The most trend-setting American car in history, the Cord 810, was born. Many of its design innovations would not become standard on other makes for decades. Introduced in late 1935 at the New York Auto Show, the 810 created a sensation. Crowds around it were so deep that people were forced to stand on other display cars just to get a glimpse.
Deliveries began in 1936, but the Depression finally caught up to the Cord empire and 1937 was to be the final model year. During this time, the cars (now designated Model 812) were available for the first and only time with an optional supercharger, which boosted power to almost 200 hp. The supercharged cars could also be fitted with magnificent outside exhaust pipes, giving the car its most iconic look. At the height of the Depression, sadly, few could afford this luxury.
Presented here is an Cord, the supercharged Cabriolet, informally known as the Sportsman. Just 64 were originally produced; perhaps a third of them remain today.

On an eastbound Burlington Northern coal train grinding up Crawford Hill west of Belmont, Nebraska, on July 9, 1994, EMD SD70MAC Nos. 9440 and 9449 bracket EMD SD60MAC No. 9503. EMD built four 3,800 h.p. SD60MAC as testbeds for A.C. traction and new HTCR trucks. This led to the development of the 4,000 h.p. A.C. traction SD70MAC that BN bought in large quantities. Nos. 9440 and 9449 are only a couple of months old at this point, built in April and May of 1994.
EMD SD60F Nos. 5501 and 5544 powers a Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western “corn train” southbound at Merida, North Dakota, over the DMV&W’s Missouri Valley Subdivision on August 29, 2018. The SD60Fs were acquired from Canadian National in October 2017, and on this dates, are still in their CN colors. Interestingly, Nos. 5500 and 5501, built at London in 1985 as testbed prototypes, are the earliest 60 Series built. Their builder’s plates are stamped SD50AF, but the 710-powered cowls are considered SD60Fs.

Following a six hour flight around northern Europe, Boeing's latest ecoDemonstrator Triple Seven is pushed back onto it's stand at Stansted. Originally 9V-SVL with Singapore Airlines, it is now a testbed for multiple projects making aviation safer and more sustainable, all while wearing this stunning livery.
Several GMTX owned SD60's are moving west on NS Train 224 today. They are all former Oakways with the exception of the blue one, which is one of the SD60 demonstrators, once known as EMD 3 and equipped with HTC-R Trucks for testing that design in its infancy.
This unit was built in 6-1984, builder and frame number 836054-3. After it and its companion Oakways were purged from the BNSF roster in 2009, it became GMTX 9041, taking the place of the original 9041, which was retained by EMD as a testbed unit. It later became GMTX 9000 as part of a joint lease between the Providence & Worcester/Vermont Rail System starting in 2014, and wears a unique variant of the GATX paint scheme today. It spent recent years leased to the NYSW and RJ Corman.

61-2669 Boeing C-135C Stratolifter United States Air Force
This one was also called Speckled Trout - Speckled Trout is the official name of a combined SAF/CSAF support mission and concurrent test mission. She was used by the Secretary and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force for executive transport requirements. Fully equipped with an array of communications equipment, data links and cryptographic sets, the aircraft served a secondary role as a testbed for proposed command and control systems and was also used to evaluate future transport aircraft design (by Wikipedia).
Built as C-135B in 1962, later WC-135B. Wfu and used as instructional airframe by 2006.

58 year-old Sabreliner from Malmen AB, Linköping is now set for retirement in Q4 2023. Used as a testbed for electronics including ultra-wideband ground surveillance synthetic aperture radar, it usually carries long probes, removed for flights over FL22. Acquired in 1980 and only flown for around 20 hrs p/a.
