The facade includes several large works of art. At the top of the south facade is a 13-foot-wide clock, which contains the world's largest example of Tiffany glass. The clock is surrounded by the Glory of Commerce sculptural group, a 48-foot-wide sculpture by Jules-FƩlix Coutan, which includes representations of Minerva, Hercules, and Mercury. At its unveiling in 1914, the work was considered the largest sculptural group in the world.
The Main Concourse, originally known as the Express Concourse, is located on the upper platform level of Grand Central, in the geographical center of the station building. The 35,000-square-foot concours leads directly to most of the terminal's upper-level tracks, although some are accessed from passageways near the concourse. The Main Concourse is usually filled with bustling crowds and is often used as a meeting place.
Vanderbilt Hall is an event space on the south side of the terminal, between the Park Avenue entrance located to its south and the Main Concourse. The space is lit by Beaux-Arts chandeliers, each with 132 bulbs on four tiers. It was formerly the main waiting room for the terminal, used particularly by intercity travelers.

Dubai International airport again, this time waiting at the departure gate. Just into the new day on Dubai time.
Formally dedicated in 1930 following over four years of extensive demolition, excavation, and construction, the Cleveland Union Terminal centralized the cityās passenger rail service and gave Cleveland a signature landmark, the 52-story, 708-foot tall Terminal Tower.
The Union Terminal project was conceived by brothers Oris P. and Mantis J. Van Sweringen in conjunction with the development of their other major project, the suburban community of Shaker Heights. They had initially planned to build only a small train station near Public Square in order to facilitate a quicker commute between Shaker and downtown. Eventually, however, the project grew more ambitious when the brothers proposed Public Square as an ideal site for a new, centralized rail station - originally planned to be built on the north end of the Mall as part of Daniel Burnhamās Group Plan. In addition, the Van Sweringens scrapped the initial plans for a more modest 14-story office building to sit atop the new train station in favor of the massive 52-story Terminal Tower.
The shy, reclusive Van Sweringen brothers always shunned the spotlight, even opting not to attend the Union Terminalās grand opening ceremonies in 1930. Their effect on Cleveland and its development in the twentieth-century, however, remains on display today.
This mural is located at the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport. It was a WPA project. The terminal is the only remaining airport from the days of the flying boats, think Spruce Moose. Its a great story of America in that in the red scare of the 50's it was painted over for being Socialist, Red, etc ... In the late 70's it was restored.
The place itself is so quiet you hardly feel like you are even in an airport as the modern addition handles most of the airport traffic.
One of those pieces of history that goes largely unnoticed.
Following on from the previous image, we've simplified the personnel screen.
For the first time since 1989 there is no terminal assignment screen - allocating staff to attendance terminals, defining access patterns and enabling the enquiry agent functions is now completed through the terminal policy option.

The punctual trains brought us right up to the terminal in plenty of time to hurry up and wait after check-in.
Just to prove that Waterfront Station is basically a giant, empty barn I took the mouse-eye view. I like the little lens star near the bench leg on the right.
