Adding to the fun - we met up in Bloomsburg, which is where I went to college and where Ky used to live (not at the same time though). Ha. Ah, memories. :)

Glamorous French film actress Anouk Aimée (1932) has appeared in 70 films since 1947 and worked with many talented directors. She had major international successes in the 1960’s with Lola (1961) and Un homme et une femme/A Man and a Woman (1966) in which she defined a new kind of modern heroine.
Anouk Aimée was born Françoise Nicole Sorya Dreyfus in Paris, France, in 1932. She was the daughter of actors Geneviève Sorya (née Durand) and Henri Murray (born Dreyfus). She was trained in acting and dancing at the Bauer-Therond school. Aimée began her film career in 1946 at the age of 14. Reportedly she was walking down the rue Colisée in the eighth arrondissement in Paris with her mother, when director Henri Calef stopped her and asked if she would like to be in a film. Her film debut was La maison sous la mer/The House by the Sea (1947, Henri Calef) starring Viviane Romance. At first she was simply billed as Anouk, taken from the character she played in Marcel Carné’s unfinished film La Fleur de l’âge/The Flower of the Age (1947). She played Juliette opposite Serge Reggiani as Romeo in Les amants de Vérone/Lovers of Verona (1949, Andre Cayatte), an updated adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, specifically written for her by the poet Jacques Prevert. Prévert playfully added the symbolic last name, Aimée (Beloved), that would forever associate her with the affective power of her screen roles. Les amants de Vérone was a worldwide success. She then worked three times with director Alexandre Astruc, at Le Rideau Cramoisi/ The Crimson Curtain (1951), Deux Crimes d'Amour/Two Love Crimes (1953) and Les Mauvaises Rencontres/The Bad Liaisons (1955). She appeared in the British espionage drama Contraband Spain (1955, Lawrence Huntington) opposite Richard Green, and starred in the ‘perfect crime’ melodrama Tous Peuvent Me Tuer/Everybody Wants To Kill Me (1956, Henri Decoin). In 1958 she portrayed the artist Jeanne Hébuterne in Les Amants de Montparnasse/Montparnasse 19 (1958) about the tragic, troubled life of Italian abstract painter Amedeo Modigliani (Gerard Philipe). She made her Hollywood debut as a French Resistance fighter in The Journey (1959, Anatole Litvak).
Possessed of an aloof, haunting beauty, Anouk Aimée has given her best performances under the direction of such master directors as Federico Fellini and Jacques Demy. She appeared in two major films by Fellini, as a bored socialite in La dolce vita/The Sweet Life (1960, Federico Fellini) and as Marcello Mastroianni’s long-suffering wife in 8 ½ (1963). Aimée had a huge success with Jacques Demy's debut film Lola (1961), a musical ‘without music’ set in the port city of Nantes. Aimée stars as the title character, a cabaret singer awaiting the return of her long-absent lover and the father of her child, who went to America seven years ago and promised to return when he became rich. Another milestone was her work as the sexually ambivalent queen in the bible epic Sodom and Gomorrah (1962, Robert Aldrich). Aimee reunited with Jacques Demy for The Model Shop (1969), in which Lola now is an older French model living in Los Angeles who poses for photographs to pay the bills. In between these two films, she played Anne Gauthier in the wildly romantic drama Un homme et une femme/A Man and a Woman (1966, Claude Lelouch), a widow who falls in love with widower Jean-Louis Trintignant. This role which brought her international fame and awards. She won the 1967 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She had the chance to establish herself in Hollywood but she refused many roles, including that of Vicki Anderson, the insurance investigator eventually played by Faye Dunaway opposite Steve McQueen in the first The Thomas Crown Affair (1968, Norman Jewison). She did play the title role in Justine (1969, George Cukor) with Michael York and in The Appointment (1969, Sidney Lumet) with Omar Sharif, but her American film career went nowhere.
After a break of seven years, Anouk Aimée returned to the cinema in Si C'Etait à Refaire/If It Could Be Done Over Again (1976, Claude Lelouch) with Catherine Deneuve as two former prison buddies who get on with the business of living. She was awarded the Award for Best Actress at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Marco Bellocchio's Salto nel vuoto/Leap Into The Void (1979), her co-star Michel Piccoli winning the Best Actor Prize. It was followed by roles in La Tragedia di un Uomo Ridicolo/The Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man (1980, Bernardo Bertolucci) opposite Ugo Tognazzi, and Success is the Best Revenge (1984, Jerzy Skolimowsky) starring Michael York. Looking every bit as alluring as she had in 1966, Aimee reprised her most famous role as Anne Gauthier in Un Homme et une Femme: Vingt Ans Déjà/A Man and a Woman: Twenty Years Later (1986, Claude Lelouch), again opposite Jean-Louis Trintignant. She also portrayed the worldly-wise designer Simone Lowenthal in Prêt-à-Porter/Ready to Wear (1994), Robert Altman's comedy about the Parisian fashion scene. Aimée was married four times. From 1949 till 1950 she was married to Edouard Zimmermann. Her second husband (1951–1954) was the film director Nikos Papatakis, with whom she has a daughter Manuela (1951). Her third marriage was to composer Pierre Barouh (1966-1969). From 1970 to 1978, she was married to the British actor Albert Finney. Aimée is known as a champion of human rights. In 2002 she supported Lionel Jospin's presidential campaign. That year she was awarded a César d'honneur (a honorary César Award), and the following year she received an honorary Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. As Sandy Flitterman-Lewis writes in the Jewish Women Encyclopedia, Anouk Aimée is still “known for her remarkable presence as an icon of cool, sophisticated beauty in more than seventy films across seven decades. (...) Words like ‘regal,’ ‘intelligent’ and ‘enigmatic’ are frequently associated with her, giving Aimée an aura of disturbing and mysterious beauty that has earned her the status of one of the hundred sexiest stars in film history (in a 1995 poll conducted by Empire Magazine)”. Now in her seventies, Anouk Aimee is still very active. Recent films in which she appeared, include the comedy Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants/Happily Ever After (2004, Yvan Attal) with Charlotte Gainsbourg, the political thriller De Particulier à Particulier/Hotel Harabati (2006, Brice Chauvin), Celle que j'aime/The One I Love (2009, Elie Chouraqui), the romance Ces amours-là/These Courtship (2010, Claude Lelouch) and Paris Connections (2010, Harley Cokeliss), a glittering adaptation of a Jackie Collins novel produced by American supermarket giant Tesco. Anouk Aimée lives in the Montmartre section of Paris with her daughter Manuela.

ARTZUID 2025 Amsterdam
The 9th edition of the Amsterdam Sculpture Biennale ARTZUID takes place from 21 May to 21 September 2025. On Apollolaan and Minervalaan in Amsterdam-Zuid, 70 outdoor sculptures are being showcased of renowned artists and young talented artists.
This exhibition draws from top international artists and Dutch talent for the selection of sculptures and installations that can be seen this summer in Amsterdam. ARTZUID transforms the exhibition location into a surreal urban landscape in which figurative sculptures alternate with architectonic installations. They show a great variety in format and material. What unites them is their focus on the enigma of human existence; the wonder, the emotions and visions of being, the ambitions and fears about our place in the world. Artists such as Leiko Ikemura, Alicja Kwade and Neo Rauch invite the visitor to an exchange of thoughts about this, in a sensual conversation with the sculptures. Displayed is the upheaval of occupation, the fear of war and the spirit of resistance in the contributions of artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Shinkichi Tajiri and Armando. Atelier van Lieshout refers to power and impotence, struggle and victimhood, in a group of figures around a rider on horseback. On the trail of ARTZUID this work is connected to the Indonesia-Netherland Monument on Apollolaan. These are just a few examples of the more than 60 works that populate ARTZUID. The architectural works by often young artists have a commitment and idealism reminiscent of architect H.P. Berlage and urban sculptor Hildo Krop. Both having been instrumental in developing the urban design of the neighbourhood home to ARTZUID. They stimulate visitors to think about the future of the urban community and seek answers to the question of what strategies are needed to create a sustainable and peaceful society

Will Apple listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s criticism?
I don’t think so—especially not for someone like me who was captivated by the dream of Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg of Meta appeared on a popular podcast and criticized Apple, claiming they haven’t released an innovative product since the iPhone and that their sales have been declining.
While criticizing Apple on a podcast originating from Apple itself may sound like a light joke, I think he was quite serious about it. After all, he now wields the weapon of AR glasses.
Supported by various institutions and a talented team, he may have achieved some notable goals. Yet, as an old Apple fan who’s been using products since the PowerBook 540c, I can’t feel any sense of craftsmanship identity from him.
This critique extends to other leading tech companies of our time as well: Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Simply listing these company names likely brings their logos and the faces of their leaders to mind for those reading this.
I once wrote that Steve Jobs wasn’t an artist.
He was skilled at weaving together scattered images from our current world, expanding them, and linking them to the future. That was his specialty.
The one who actually created was Jonathan Ive. There are probably others like me who share this minority opinion.
However, seeing how the IT leaders mentioned earlier change their company policies at the mere prospect of Trump regaining power, I can’t help but voice my opinion:
The AR glasses, cars, and other products they create lack a crucial concept. Whether you call it a profound ideology or a lighter term like identity, it’s missing.
True, Tim Cook and the current Apple team have become more prone to letting slip details about unreleased products.
As I’ve often written, I love music.
When artists isolate themselves from the world, locking themselves in studios to pour their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow wholeheartedly into a single note, they entrust something to their work.
Once they finish an album and release it, they share what they felt while creating it. (The artist I admire, Prince, rarely explained his works, so I had to interpret his completed pieces on my own.)
Until the album is complete and released, these artists say nothing.
The ones who move me most are those kinds of artists.
The faint light of Apple’s innovation within me hasn’t been extinguished.
Not even last year’s Apple Vision Pro, criticized as a major failure, could extinguish it. On the contrary, it radiates an even stronger light than the iPhone.
This isn’t just a novel electronic device—it conveys a sense of ideology or thought beyond its intricate electronic components.
Unfortunately, I doubt I’ll ever feel that same sense of ideology or thought from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.
I’ve written at length, but here’s my conclusion:

At first glance, it might seem like Tim Cook, like other IT companies, has sold his soul. But that’s not the case.
While Tim Cook personally donates to Trump, Apple as a company has refrained from doing the same as other companies.
Apple didn’t bow to Trump.
If someone were to ask me what Apple’s ideology or thought is, I would answer:
Apple is a group of people who believe in themselves.
Steve Jobs is probably laughing at this overly serious piece I’ve written from somewhere up in heaven.
A company that doesn’t kowtow to Trump—that’s Apple for you. :)

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

マークザッカーバーグ氏の批判に、アップルは耳を傾けるだろうか。
僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。
僕は以前、スティーブ・ジョブズはアーティストではないと書いた。
彼は、現世界に散らばったイメージを紡ぎ合わせ、それを膨らます。そして未来へリンクさせる。それが得意だっただけだ。
実際に創作していたのはジョナサンアイブだ。少数ながらも僕のような意見を持っている方もいるだろう。
しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。
長々と書いてきたが、結論は以下の記事だ。

一読すると、ティムクック氏も他のIT会社同様、魂を売ったのかと思われるがそうではない。

アップルは、トランプ氏になびかなかったのだ。
アップル社の観念や思想とは、具体的に何かと訊かれたら、僕はこう答える。
アップルとは、自分自身を信じる人間が集まっているグループだ。
たぶん、天国のスティーブ・ジョブズは、僕がクソ真面目に書いたテキストを、鼻で笑っていることだろう。
トランプ氏に媚びない会社。
それがAppleさ。:)

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Hey guys, this weekend I’ll be taking a super random road trip down south with the very talented Annette Wiguna to Margaret River and Dunsborough. For me it’s going to be like a photo camp - a time to relax a little, scout some locations and to recenter myself a little.
We’ll be making our way along the coast on Sunday to look at some epic scenery - if you want to hang out or know anyone in the area that would be keen to get some fun and epic photos taken, let me know!

I really love to learn about all things photography and am always eager to share what knowledge I have picked up along the way these past few years because I’m such a major nerd and hoarder of information!
I know for a fact that when I was starting out, the behind the scenes stuff was always a really intriguing aspect - namely... how in the flippin’ world did he/she make that image!?!?! - but a lot of times finding out the process behind it was a mystery (where’s Cumberbatch when you need him!). I would scour the interwebs like a maniac for the answer and sometimes I would find it but most times not so much. So from now, I will be sharing a lot more information and random tips and tricks that I use for my wedding work and engagement shoots!

The above image was taken along Busselton jetty and despite being crazy windy it was shot at f1.4. I only shoot with prime lenses and my mentality has always been, I buy these lenses to be able to shoot at 1.4, dammit I’m gonna shoot at 1.4 every chance I get! Yeehawww pew pew pew pew!!
Anyway the danger obviously is missing focus or not having everything or everyone in complete focus, but you know what.. that’s ok. Taking risks and being ok with an imperfect image is something I’ve always embraced - when you have everything tact sharp and safe to please a client, I find I get bored pretty quickly.. Put it this way, at weddings I stop down here and there but about 90% of the time, I’m shooting at 1.4.
I’ll talk more about how I gamble and take chances in a future post but in the meantime what aperture do you find yourself shooting at the most? I’m really curious how much you risk at a shoot..

These were shot with the Nikon D800 E & AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR from Nikon which I keep slung around my neck to capture "behind the scenes" action on the beach! I use a second Nikon D800E with a 600mm TAMRON | SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 zoom to shoot the surfing action! It's on a Gitzo monopod!

Since too many online sources have evaporated WRT the legacies of other artists, the content of the above follows:
“Simi Valley resident and illustrator Sol Dember, 82, has his art hanging in the Pentagon in Washington D.C., the American Embassy in London, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado, as well as offices, homes, and galleries.
His work appears in encyclopedias, dictionaries, books, magazines and even greeting cards and record jackets.
Dember attributes his interest in art to his late uncle, who taught him the principles of design and a love for art in 1940 when Dember was in high school.
“After school, I would go to (my uncle’s) house and learn a lot from him about art technique,” Dember said. “I really liked to draw and paint. But my family was always artistic.”
At a young age, Dember made holiday silkscreen posters that he sold to local grocery markets and other stores to earn money at Christmas.
Dember graduated from the New York School of Industrial Art and studied at the Beaux Art Institute in Paris, France. Since then, he’s worked in the commercial art field.
Dember paints landscapes and seascapes, scientific and technical designs, and conceptual drawings. His work has received more than 50 ribbons and awards in national exhibits.
“I feel the accomplishment in doing things,” Dember said, proudly displaying his awards on a wall in his home.
Dember also teaches a three-semester course in airbrush techniques and related commercial art techniques. He taught at Pierce College for 22 years, Moorpark College for 18 years, and instructed art classes on 46 cruise ships.
Dember co-authored four books about art technique, including “Complete Airbrush Techniques,” “Complete Art Techniques and Treatments,” and two volumes of “Drawing and Painting the World of Animals.”
When Dember was an art director and in-house technical illustrator at Rockwell Scientific, he drew over 500 illustrations of space vehicles, machinery and surfaces of imaginary planets. He wants to lend many of those drawings to a Thousand Oaks hands-on science center that’s yet to be built.
“I offered my paintings to the vice president of this operation, and he said, ‘When we get started on it, we’ll be glad to accept it,’” Dember said.
Dember also hopes that his King Tutankhamun and Nefertiti paintings, which traveled the country with the 1978 King Tut exhibit, will be accepted into the current show.
“I just don’t know who to contact,” Dember said. Another King Tut exhibit is now at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Dember is on two art advisory committees at Los Angeles Tech College. He’s listed in the California State Library in the Who’s Who of California History of Art, the Who’s Who in the West, the International Who’s Who of Contemporary Achievement and the International Gold Award Book.”

"DESCRIPTION
On the fourth floor of Bob Hope Patriotic Hall is Solomon Dember’s mural representing the history of the United States Navy and the Marine Corps. The artwork was created using a fresco technique on the room’s stucco wall. The mural was part of the renovation done for the Navy/Marine Corps meeting rooms and was dedicated by Ronald Reagan in 1982. To depict naval history, Dember chose to show famous American ships and sea battles. The history begins on the left with the Revolutionary Warship Bonhomme Richard engaged in the Battle of Flamborough Head, and continues with ships and battles of the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and finally Vietnam. The mural was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Naval Foundation.
About the Artist
Sol Dember was born in 1923 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the New York School of Industrial Art and, after serving in the Army during WWII, also studied at France’s School of Fine Arts (L‘Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts). In the 1950s and 60s he created many depictions of potential space vehicle designs for NASA. In the 1960s he also created the design for a White House Christmas card and Lyndon Johnson bought the original painting on which the card was based. He has lived in Southern California since 1946 and has taught art at Pierce College for 25 years and at Moorpark College for 22 years."

This is another beautiful picture taken på the talented Mia, She studied photography on uni or something when this was taken, also the only known picture of me with my chess-mohawk combi haircut it was actually far easier than one thinks to make, I just needed two mirrors and some skill with the razor, I almost always made my haircuts myself except for when I got free ones as a hair-model at some saloon…
Today is a sad day for the world, when the trade wars start, it is so sad because no one will be a winner, people across borders in countries involved will loose old cultivated supply lines, goods will become more expensive for people on all sides, jobs will be lost, which in turn can lead to local recession and at worst case scenario the who world could suffer long time spiraling regression…
It might lead to so much bad!
All chair but the snowman emperor is nude, no one can see that since they wear goggles with mind-plastered imperial garments and regalia!!!
I hope this won't lead to more hatred by nationality because we must remember that there are good people in all nations and states, in Adolf’s reich (that was supposed to be great) there was Germans who at different levels did not comply with the rules, people who actively opposed it and victims…
Some people hid people despite the risk of themself ending up in concentration camps… and many did, and many saidly perished!!!
Remember, there will most often come an after (that is if the world or humanity doesn’t go down) …and in that after, can you stand with a clear conscious and say, I stood by my beliefs I was not swept away by mass hysteria and idol worship… where you one of them who didn’t lend hate and lunacy your helping hand!!!

Our young and talented percussionist, 16-year old Edimilson da Silva Benedito of the Banda Beija-Flor, knows how to preserve the true spirit of African drumming with incredible flexibility and high-speed.
Today was the 9th. Batizado (graduation ceremony) of Capoeira Beija-Flor. Our Grupo Cultural Beija-Flor opened the event at 09:00am with their exuberant Afro-Brazilian dance, Maculelê, to the powerful rhythmic sounds of authentic African drums.
The Afro-Brazilian art forms, Maculelê and Capoeira, are closely connected.
Maculelê is a stick-dance that originated in the sugar cane fields of Brazil during slavery and brings together the traditions of different African tribes with those of Brazilian Indians. As a symbol of their work on the sugar cane plantations, the dancers carry sticks, and sometimes machetes. They simulate combat by hitting the sticks together to the rhythm of the atabaque (a percussion instrument).
Capoeira is a beautiful combination of dance, martial arts and acrobatics, second only to soccer in the preference of Brazilians as a national sport. Both art forms were created by Africans enslaved in Brazil in the XVII century, and developed through the ages as part of the Afro-Brazilian struggle for freedom.
The melodies, rhythms and songs of Maculelê and Capoeira carry the teachings of our ancestors and reflect the invincible spirit and imagination of the Brazilian slaves. These extremely dynamic art forms contribute towards some of the most traditional cultural practices in Brazil.

The beautiful, talented pro surfer Bethany Hamilton lost her left arm in a shark attack while surfing in Hawaii with Alana Blanchard. But then she made a comeback and continues to compete! She's an inspiration, as she reminds us all to keep on surfing on through life--to keep on getting back out there and catching those waves!

Shot with the awesome Nikon D800E & the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras. They're all professional models too (Alana Blanchard was a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model and Rip Curl Bikini Model!)!

Last year I was shooting with a Nikon D4 with a 600mm F4 Prime monster Nikkor lens mounted on the tripod:

This year I wanted to be more nimble and work the whole area (shoot surfers warming up down the beach, coming and goring, running, hanging out/watching/etc.), so I opted to shoot with a Nikon D800E with the Sigma 150-500m lens mounted on a monopod. It can be tough to move tripod around with a 600mm F4 Prime monster Nikkor lens on a crowded beach, and it would be easy to upset folks each time you tried to set it up! There's a good chance they would say "enough" and throw you and all your equipment in the water! There's a common etiquette that one ought arrive early to claim a good spot, set up there, and keep it for the day. Latecomers are not welcome to set up on the main beach once it has filled up. But it's OK to walk around with a smaller setup as long as you stay out of everyone's way. Generally you can hug the water/shoreline with your feet and monopod in the water, as you're down low enough so that you don't block anyone's view from higher up on the beach, where all the tripods are mounted. The Sigma 150-500mm lens also allowed me to zoom out when surfers ran down the beach or got in and out of the water, and I also had a Nikon D800E with the 28-300 mm lens strapped around my neck. And both cameras had video cameras mounted to them in my famous 45surfer configuration! Needless to say, it can be a bit scary standing knee-deep in water with all that equipment, with large waves breaking. You wouldn't want to fall in!

P.S. There's nothing like shooting the nikon D4 with the 600mm prime for quality, but I felt it was cool to give up a bit of quality for far more variety this year! Plus I do not want to become a pixel-peeper! :)
