Since too many online sources have evaporated WRT the legacies of other artists, the content of the above follows:
“Simi Valley resident and illustrator Sol Dember, 82, has his art hanging in the Pentagon in Washington D.C., the American Embassy in London, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado, as well as offices, homes, and galleries.
His work appears in encyclopedias, dictionaries, books, magazines and even greeting cards and record jackets.
Dember attributes his interest in art to his late uncle, who taught him the principles of design and a love for art in 1940 when Dember was in high school.
“After school, I would go to (my uncle’s) house and learn a lot from him about art technique,” Dember said. “I really liked to draw and paint. But my family was always artistic.”
At a young age, Dember made holiday silkscreen posters that he sold to local grocery markets and other stores to earn money at Christmas.
Dember graduated from the New York School of Industrial Art and studied at the Beaux Art Institute in Paris, France. Since then, he’s worked in the commercial art field.
Dember paints landscapes and seascapes, scientific and technical designs, and conceptual drawings. His work has received more than 50 ribbons and awards in national exhibits.
“I feel the accomplishment in doing things,” Dember said, proudly displaying his awards on a wall in his home.
Dember also teaches a three-semester course in airbrush techniques and related commercial art techniques. He taught at Pierce College for 22 years, Moorpark College for 18 years, and instructed art classes on 46 cruise ships.
Dember co-authored four books about art technique, including “Complete Airbrush Techniques,” “Complete Art Techniques and Treatments,” and two volumes of “Drawing and Painting the World of Animals.”
When Dember was an art director and in-house technical illustrator at Rockwell Scientific, he drew over 500 illustrations of space vehicles, machinery and surfaces of imaginary planets. He wants to lend many of those drawings to a Thousand Oaks hands-on science center that’s yet to be built.
“I offered my paintings to the vice president of this operation, and he said, ‘When we get started on it, we’ll be glad to accept it,’” Dember said.
Dember also hopes that his King Tutankhamun and Nefertiti paintings, which traveled the country with the 1978 King Tut exhibit, will be accepted into the current show.
“I just don’t know who to contact,” Dember said. Another King Tut exhibit is now at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Dember is on two art advisory committees at Los Angeles Tech College. He’s listed in the California State Library in the Who’s Who of California History of Art, the Who’s Who in the West, the International Who’s Who of Contemporary Achievement and the International Gold Award Book.”

"DESCRIPTION
On the fourth floor of Bob Hope Patriotic Hall is Solomon Dember’s mural representing the history of the United States Navy and the Marine Corps. The artwork was created using a fresco technique on the room’s stucco wall. The mural was part of the renovation done for the Navy/Marine Corps meeting rooms and was dedicated by Ronald Reagan in 1982. To depict naval history, Dember chose to show famous American ships and sea battles. The history begins on the left with the Revolutionary Warship Bonhomme Richard engaged in the Battle of Flamborough Head, and continues with ships and battles of the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and finally Vietnam. The mural was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Naval Foundation.
About the Artist
Sol Dember was born in 1923 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the New York School of Industrial Art and, after serving in the Army during WWII, also studied at France’s School of Fine Arts (L‘Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts). In the 1950s and 60s he created many depictions of potential space vehicle designs for NASA. In the 1960s he also created the design for a White House Christmas card and Lyndon Johnson bought the original painting on which the card was based. He has lived in Southern California since 1946 and has taught art at Pierce College for 25 years and at Moorpark College for 22 years."

This is part of a series of buildings I have been painting on a small scale. I am hoping to capture various areas of my city, Toronto, and depict the style of homes and perhaps shops that can be found in each particular community. This is a street in Parkdale, which is located off Queen Street, near Lansdowne Avenue. Surprisingly these are taking me much longer to paint than I had anticipated.

Hey look, I can balance on my front feet.
As I was walking in a park one Saturday morning,this squirrel came in front of me and started posing for me. Ofcourse, I had my camera ready.
Thank you to the incredibly talented and funny Flickr friend S_Freer for encouraging me to try this challenge. One photo a week, each one to represent a letter of the alphabet, in order! And once we get to 'Z'....start all over again!
I didn't really like the greenish tint of the background in this one, and apart from using selective color on the amethyst I didn't know how to correct it, but I'm posting it anyway because I want this challenge to be fun, and it leaves lots of room for improvement.

I went to Pioneer Days in Mountain View last Saturday and had a pleasant surprise, getting to visit with my friend Methven Swanson. A nicer person, you will not find and he's a talented photographer as well. We share a love of old schools, barns, scenic rural places and wildlife. Egyptian-born singer, dancer, and actress of Hungarian descent Marika Rökk (1913-2004) was the last film diva of the Ufa. She was an immensely talented musical performer who could tap with the rhythm and vitality of her Hollywood counterpart Eleanor Powell, and switch to balletic movements with the conviction of Cyd Charisse. Her trademark was her Hungarian accent.
Marie Karoline Rökk was born in 1913 in Cairo, Egypt, as the daughter of Hungarian architect and contractor Eduard Rökk and his wife Maria Karoline Charlotte née Karoly. Marika spent her childhood in Budapest, but in 1924 her family moved to Paris. Here she learned to dance and joined at 13 the Hoffman Ballet Company. With the Hoffmann Girls, she appeared even in the Moulin Rouge and on Broadway. After a tour through the US, the Hoffman Ballet Company disbanded. Marika returned to Europe and her stage career continued to flourish. At the age of 15, she was a star acrobat at the Berlin Wintergarten. She appeared as a revue dancer on the stages of Monte Carlo, Cannes, London, Paris, and Budapest. In England, she played in her first film, Why Sailors Leave Home (Monty Banks, 1930) starring Leslie Fuller. It was followed by Kiss Me Sergeant (Monty Banks, 1932). The Hungarian musical Csokolj meg, edes!/Kiss Me, Darling (Béla Gaál, 1932) was considered her screen breakthrough. After this she made another fine film in Hungary, Kisertetek Vonata/Ghost Train (Lajos Lázár, 1933). In 1934, when she had great success in Vienna with the revue Stern der Manege/Stars of the Circus Ring, a talent scout for Universum Film AG (Ufa), Germany's largest production company, offered her a contract, and Marika moved on to Nazi-Germany.
The Ufa aimed to create a new type of German star, one to rival Hollywood's top musical goddesses. Marika Rökk’s German film debut was Leichte Kavallerie/Light Cavalry (Werner Hochbaum, 1935) with Heinz von Cleve, Ufa’s ‘handsome leading man’. The film made her a star overnight. It was the first of a series of modern romantic fairy tales, lightweight operettas and glittering revue-style entertainments which quickly made Rökk one of Germany's most popular stars. She had the skill and panache to carry off the often hokey plots and cliched dialogue, and she wore the glamorously designed wardrobes with flair. Her second German film was an enormously successful adaptation of Karl Millocker's classic operetta of 1882, Der Bettelstudent/The Beggar Student (1936), directed by her husband-to-be, veteran director Georg Jacoby. Handsome Dutch star Johannes Heesters was her co-star and this proved the start of a lucrative onscreen pairing. Over the next decades, the Traumpaar (Dream pair) would frequently appear together in such efforts as Hallo Janine!/Hello, Janine! (Carl Boese, 1939), Die Czardasfürstin/The Csardas Princess (Georg Jacoby, 1951) and Die Geschiedene Frau/The Divorced Woman (Georg Jacoby, 1953). However, Heesters called her a Kollegenfresser (partner eater), because of her fierce ambition, fiery temper and iron determination.
Marika Rökk soon became a leading star of the National Socialist cinema, but her films were also popular in other countries (with Rökk's name often billed as Roekk). She could count on an experienced team with which she shot most of her musicals and operettas: director Georg Jacoby, cinematographer Konstantin Irmen-Tschet, composers Franz Grothe and Peter Kreuder, and choreographer Sabine Ress. Her most popular films include Gasparone (Georg Jacoby, 1937) a film adaptation of the famous Franz Lehar operetta, Eine Nacht im Mai/A Night in May (Georg Jacoby, 1938) the first German musical modelled with several lavish production numbers totally in the Hollywood style, and Hallo Janine/Hello, Janine! (Carl Boese, 1939). In Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht (Georg Jacoby, 1939), she co-starred with that other superstar of the Nazi cinema Zarah Leander. In another hit, Kora Terry (Georg Jacoby, 1940), she did several dance interludes which were quite revealing at that time.
Again and again, Marika Rökk impersonated the at first unrecognised talent, who enforced against all odds and who at the end celebrated her triumphs on stage in a grand final. Her films were models of escapist cinema, reaching their zenith during the Second World War when they allowed audiences brief respite and access to a carefree world where politics played no role. In 1941 propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels gave Rökk the leading role in his prestige project, the first Agfacolor motion picture Frauen sind doch bessere Diplomaten/Women Are Better Diplomats (Georg Jacoby, 1941-1943), together with Willy Fritsch. Her last film under the Nazis was the funny musical Die Frau meiner Träume/Dream Woman (Georg Jacoby, 1944) which holds the record as Germany's top-grossing musical. After the war, she got an Auftrittsverbot (profession ban), but she was rehabilitated in 1947 and could continue her film career. She had been a great favourite of Adolf Hitler, who called her "my little Hungarian". Rökk was even suspected of espionage, but she was rehabilitated. Her husband Georg Jacoby was not allowed to work again till 1950.
After the Second World War, Marika Rökk kept dancing. Hungary refused to pardon her wartime career, though she denied collaboration with the Nazis, and she settled in Vienna. During her absence from the screen, she entertained the US troops stationed in Germany. She returned to the cinema with Fregola (Harald Röbbeling, 1949) opposite Rudolf Prack, and made another string of popular, frivolous musicals, including Sensation in San Remo (Georg Jacoby, 1951), like a gym teacher by day who secretly sings and dances in a nightclub at night, and Maske in Blau/Mask in Blue (Georg Jacoby, 1953). In Nachts im grunen Kakadu/At the Green Cockatoo By Night (Georg Jacoby, 1957) with Dieter Borsche, her school of social graces and dance is about to go bankrupt when she inherits a nightclub. The film proved that there was still an audience for such escapism. The following year she made her final musical with Jacoby, Buhne frei fur Marika/Stage Free for Marika (Georg Jacoby, 1958). After starring as Adele, the maid, in Die Fledermaus/The Bat (Géza von Cziffra, 1962), she retired from the cinema. Rökk continued to appear on stage in the theatres in Vienna, Hamburg, Munich and especially Berlin. She performed in revues, musicals and operettas like Die Blume von Hawaii/Flowers From Hawaii. Among her later successes were the leads in the musical Hello, Dolly! (1968) and in the comedy Die Gräfin vom Naschmarkt/The Countess From The Naschmarkt (1978). Till 1986 she was tirelessly active as an actress, operetta singer, and dancer. She played her last leading part in the boulevard comedy Das Kuckucksei/The Cuckoo's Egg (1986-1987). Marika Rökk was married to Georg Jacoby from 1940 until his death in 1964, and then to Hungarian actor Fred Raul from 1968 until he died in 1985. She was the mother of actress Gaby Jacoby. During her life, she was awarded several times. She was the first recipient of a Bambi Award ever (1948). In 1981 she was honoured with the Filmband in Gold for her longtime and outstanding contributions to the German cinema. In 1987 she returned to the screen for a final role in Schloss Konigswald/Kingswood Castle (Peter Schamoni. 1987), for which she won the Bayerischer Filmpreis (Bavarian Film Award) as Best Actress. Her last TV appearance was in 1998 when she was already 85. Marika Rökk died of a heart attack in 2004 in Baden near Vienna, Austria.

The beautiful, talented pro surfer Bethany Hamilton lost her left arm in a shark attack while surfing in Hawaii with Alana Blanchard. But then she made a comeback and continues to compete! Watch the movie they made about it--Soul Surfer! Cool flick! She's an inspiration, as she reminds us all to keep on surfing on through life--to keep on getting back out there and catching those waves!

Last year I was shooting with a Nikon D4 with a 600mm F4 Prime monster Nikkor lens mounted on the tripod:

This year I wanted to be more nimble and work the whole area (shoot surfers warming up down the beach, coming and goring, running, hanging out/watching/etc.), so I opted to shoot with a Nikon D800E with the Sigma 150-500m lens mounted on a monopod. It can be tough to move tripod around with a 600mm F4 Prime monster Nikkor lens on a crowded beach, and it would be easy to upset folks each time you tried to set it up! There's a good chance they would say "enough" and throw you and all your equipment in the water! There's a common etiquette that one ought arrive early to claim a good spot, set up there, and keep it for the day. Latecomers are not welcome to set up on the main beach once it has filled up. But it's OK to walk around with a smaller setup as long as you stay out of everyone's way. Generally you can hug the water/shoreline with your feet and monopod in the water, as you're down low enough so that you don't block anyone's view from higher up on the beach, where all the tripods are mounted. The Sigma 150-500mm lens also allowed me to zoom out when surfers ran down the beach or got in and out of the water, and I also had a Nikon D800E with the 28-300 mm lens strapped around my neck. And both cameras had video cameras mounted to them in my famous 45surfer configuration! Needless to say, it can be a bit scary standing knee-deep in water with all that equipment, with large waves breaking. You wouldn't want to fall in!

P.S. There's nothing like shooting the nikon D4 with the 600mm prime for quality, but I felt it was cool to give up a bit of quality for far more variety this year! Plus I do not want to become a pixel-peeper! :)

マークザッカーバーグ氏の批判に、アップルは耳を傾けるだろうか。
僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。
僕は以前、スティーブ・ジョブズはアーティストではないと書いた。
彼は、現世界に散らばったイメージを紡ぎ合わせ、それを膨らます。そして未来へリンクさせる。それが得意だっただけだ。
実際に創作していたのはジョナサンアイブだ。少数ながらも僕のような意見を持っている方もいるだろう。
しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。

ティムクック氏は個人的にトランプ氏へ献金をするが、アップル社だけは他社と同じようには献金していない。
アップルは、トランプ氏になびかなかったのだ。
アップル社の観念や思想とは、具体的に何かと訊かれたら、僕はこう答える。
アップルとは、自分自身を信じる人間が集まっているグループだ。
たぶん、天国のスティーブ・ジョブズは、僕がクソ真面目に書いたテキストを、鼻で笑っていることだろう。

Will Apple listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s criticism?
I don’t think so—especially not for someone like me who was captivated by the dream of Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg of Meta appeared on a popular podcast and criticized Apple, claiming they haven’t released an innovative product since the iPhone and that their sales have been declining.
While criticizing Apple on a podcast originating from Apple itself may sound like a light joke, I think he was quite serious about it. After all, he now wields the weapon of AR glasses.
Supported by various institutions and a talented team, he may have achieved some notable goals. Yet, as an old Apple fan who’s been using products since the PowerBook 540c, I can’t feel any sense of craftsmanship identity from him.
This critique extends to other leading tech companies of our time as well: Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Simply listing these company names likely brings their logos and the faces of their leaders to mind for those reading this.
I once wrote that Steve Jobs wasn’t an artist.
He was skilled at weaving together scattered images from our current world, expanding them, and linking them to the future. That was his specialty.
The one who actually created was Jonathan Ive. There are probably others like me who share this minority opinion.
However, seeing how the IT leaders mentioned earlier change their company policies at the mere prospect of Trump regaining power, I can’t help but voice my opinion:
The AR glasses, cars, and other products they create lack a crucial concept. Whether you call it a profound ideology or a lighter term like identity, it’s missing.
True, Tim Cook and the current Apple team have become more prone to letting slip details about unreleased products.
As I’ve often written, I love music.
When artists isolate themselves from the world, locking themselves in studios to pour their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow wholeheartedly into a single note, they entrust something to their work.
Once they finish an album and release it, they share what they felt while creating it. (The artist I admire, Prince, rarely explained his works, so I had to interpret his completed pieces on my own.)
Until the album is complete and released, these artists say nothing.
The ones who move me most are those kinds of artists.
The faint light of Apple’s innovation within me hasn’t been extinguished.
Not even last year’s Apple Vision Pro, criticized as a major failure, could extinguish it. On the contrary, it radiates an even stronger light than the iPhone.
This isn’t just a novel electronic device—it conveys a sense of ideology or thought beyond its intricate electronic components.
Unfortunately, I doubt I’ll ever feel that same sense of ideology or thought from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.
I’ve written at length, but here’s my conclusion:

At first glance, it might seem like Tim Cook, like other IT companies, has sold his soul. But that’s not the case.
While Tim Cook personally donates to Trump, Apple as a company has refrained from doing the same as other companies.
Apple didn’t bow to Trump.
If someone were to ask me what Apple’s ideology or thought is, I would answer:
Apple is a group of people who believe in themselves.
Steve Jobs is probably laughing at this overly serious piece I’ve written from somewhere up in heaven.
A company that doesn’t kowtow to Trump—that’s Apple for you. :)

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。
