GONE - We sanded this teak table down to the grain and left the wood its natural, pale color. Then we replaced the top with a goes-with-everything black laminate. Now it's got some serious sex appeal.

Equipment used: Nikon D7000 with Really Right Stuff (RRF) right angle bracket, Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8, mounted on Gitzo 2220 with Acratech ball head, Hari and Son light table
Manual Exposure, ISO 100, F/20, 1/250 sec., focal length 105mm
A Perspex sweep was placed on the light table. The glassware was kept on the sweep. One Elinchrom FXR 200 (with softbox) was placed at the bend of the sweep (from behind) and one Yongnuo flash with a Lumiquest mini softbox (model Promax III) was placed directly under the Perspex sheet below the glassware pointing upwards.
Both the strobes were fired with cam's built-in flash set at 1/128 power in manual flash mode. A Nikon SG-3IR (ever heard of this?) was used to make the camera’s flash output into an IR pulse and hence block all light from this flash. The power output of both the strobes was adjusted to get the right amount light. No reflectors or gobos were used. Wine was diluted (oh my God!) to make it thin and a bit more transparent to light.
Knowing that this going to be tough shot I decided to use, “Master” just a $10 but slightly buggy program which allows remote control of camera with automatic transfer of files to my laptop. This helped a lot as we could see the results on a good monitor instantly.
Once again Kutty RBP played a leading role! He also loaned the Yongnuo flash and Lumiquest soft box. Thanks are due to him and Adi and Jus Sri (see credits below).
Wine glasses are my own but the decanter was loaned to me my good and bird photographer par excellence Rahul Rallan.
After all the effort I am still not very happy. But then there is always another chance!

In this shot you can see a side view of the 2 Dzubas paintings on left, a John Gibbons sculpture on the floor, another model ship on an artisan table, a carved and painted wood sculpture of a couple by a Japanese artist whose name is unknown to me, a Hughto painting "North of Sandy Creek" 1976, an artisan table, a Marge Minkin plexi painting over the door, another Hughto "Camden Harbor" 2003, another artisan table, a Larry Poons painting circa 1978, the footstool portion of an Eames chair, on the table: a John Isherwood sculpture, unknown turned bowl, a Fertig sculpture. The table is old and beautiful and heavy with a gorgeous patina from its age. I don't know anything more about it, but it is very impressive. I was going to guess fifteenth or sixteenth century English, but it would be just that, a wild guess influenced by my impression of it's mass and age.

Sometimes just a simple neutral color like grey does the trick! Grey melmac is paired with vintage grey linens. I love this tablecloth! Simple, and makes grey February seem a little more bearable! :)

The Table Cape Lighthouse started service in 1888.
It is built from bricks which came from Victoria as ballast.
Materials were brought to the site, from Wynyard 7 kilometres to the south, by bullock wagon.
The light was originally powered by an oil burner and had to be manually tendered.
Bertram Jackson (the younger), son of first keeper Robert Jackson remembers those days:
"The lamp had to be lit every day, as soon as the sun dipped into the sea, and it had to be kept alight all the time until the sun rose again.
There were always three of them as I remember it, and they each took a turn to watch the light.
They used a special oil called mineral colza, which used to be carted up in big drums by bullock wagon.
It was a very clear, white light, and better than kerosene because it caused less soot."
He went on to state that by day, the keepers used to pull heavy curtains round the light house windows, to protect the reflecting lenses from damage by the sun.
The light was converted to vapourised kerosene in around 1913. At this time the manning was reduced from three to two keepers.
Converted to automatic acetylene operation in 1920, the lightkeepers were withdrawn in 1923.
The cottages were demolished in 1926 due to rapid deterioration.
In 1979 major works were undertaken. The lantern room was rebuilt and mains electricity was connected with an electric lamp and standby battery bank being installed.
Less than three weeks after the opening of the light the headkeeper's son, Bertie died at the age of 14 months.
The cause is not known, but it is the cause of a sad entry in the lighthouse log book.
"Wind south. A strong breeze and misty weather. Employed in the lighthouse and cleaning up about station. At 5.10 p.m.
Bertie Jackson, son of the head lightkeeper, departed this life aged one year and two months."
The undertaker struggled up from Wynyard on horse back with the small casket and after consultation with the clergy recommended that Bertie be buried near the lighthouse were his family could tend to his grave.
He was placed in a grave marked by a fuchsia bush. The bush has long since disappeared, but locals who knew the place have recently constructed a memorial.
The United States Congress designated the Table Rock Wilderness in 1984 and it now has over 5,786 acres. All of this wilderness is located in Oregon and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
A remnant of a lava flow that once covered this region along the western foothills of the Cascades, the "fortress" of Table Rock stands at 4,881 feet above the northeastern portion of this small Wilderness. On this steep and rugged terrain you'll find a quiet forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock, with noble fir at higher elevations and crowds of rhododendron on many of the upper slopes, an island of old growth in an ocean of forest development. At least two endangered plants bloom here: Oregon sullivantia and Gorman's aster. Deer and elk wander about in winter, and the northern spotted owl has been spotted among the old trees.

Originally this was a Mattel set, in sort of a translucent pink color. Red was the base coat and I used real stain and a fan brush to create the effect.

they're both 'U' shaped, this image is the most pronounced south-eastern edge. They are ancient Lava flows, read the Wikipedia about them, fascinating.
A 43"x18" play table converted to play Legends of Chima on. Frame was reclaimed from an old sand/water table that a preschool was throwing away. Play surface was made with 1/2" MDF and covered with textured wallpaper and painted in various washes and dry brushing layers. The rocks are made from foam and covered in drywall...compound (?) to make them withstand speedorz crashing into them. Sides were then covered in sand and woodland scenics flocking. Plants were made from chopped up aquarium plants I snagged on the cheap from petsmart.

Because for many years Bardon Hill has been quarried for railway ballast etc, half of the hill is missing. The fence is there to stop you falling over the bit of the hill that isn't there.
Note through the rain and mist stunning views of post modern industrial/commercial Coalville in the distance.

Nothing fancy on here. The John Lennon biography is a bit of a brick. Great read though. He's one of my heroes. It's taken me two years of reading it on-and-off to get through it, but I'm finally nearly there. Being an English teacher doesn't allow you much reading for pleasure, let alone reading massive doorstop books.
The photo is of my boyfriend of four years.
Tiny Puffin hangs there when he's not out sailing in his paper boat and being a sea captain.
The table trestle legs are from medievaloak.com/ The top is just some 1x6s from Lowes that I nailed onto three crossbeams to make a table. Seperate boards were often just laid over the trestles to make a table. The trestles come apart for easy transport, which was the whole idea.

Oak veneered with tortoiseshell, brass and ebony, set with gilt bronze mounts.
This early Régence bureau plat (writing table) by André-Charles Boulle was created at the beginning of the Regency period in France when Louis XV was a minor (between 1715 and 1723, but Régence furniture is typically considered to span the years from 1700 to 1730, beginning late in the reign of Louis XIV).
Atop the desk are an ornate casket, inkstand and paperweight set and mounted Imari bowl.
The exquisite French wool and linen carpet was made in the Chaillot Workshop of Philippe Lourdet (founded by Simon Lourdet) at the Savonnerie Manufactory in Paris in about 1665 to 1666.

The panels above the mirrors are elaborately gilded and carved with masks, shell motifs, leafy branches, and garlands of flowers. The rope molding decorated with a gilded, twisted ribbon is made from carved wood.

The displays were vignettes of French life during that era in history with elaborate furnishings, paintings, clothing, and jewelry. Many rooms in the museum were completed ordained from top to bottom with finery, from the painted paneled casework to the inlaid and patterned oak flooring. It was truly amazing.

TABLE LAMP XVIII
The lamp is made of Senegalese gourd.
White carvings are deeper layer of wood which allows some light to pass through it.
At the top of the lamp is closing part locked with little magnets. The base is finished with black jeweller waxed string.
Diameter of the gourd is 21cm. Lamp is 35,5cm high. Diameter of the base is 24,5cm.
pool party! i did not go in today but i was applauded for coming. la la la i don't like my body so summer and i aren't the best of friends. they were all so cute.
kristin - i love that you're my friend every day, not just when it's convenient. you always want to see me. you never let me down. and i think that's why we get along so well. we share insecurities and fears, so i think as individuals at our worst we bring out the best in each other. i love you.

aidan - i love that you finally let me hang out with you. i knew you were shy but it always bummed me out that we never high-fived or hugged. you'll do dance moves if i ask you, you'll talk to me without being shy, and you're just the coolest for making my day. i love your voice more than anything in the world. and your skinny body, my favourite. =]
talan - you're my #1. you're not developed enough to have a say in whether you like me or not, therefore i take advantage of the fact that you'll let me love on you and never say no. i miss your wrinkles but i love your buddha belly. you never cease to amaze me with your freakish rate of development. i love you so much and you have made my life so happy. you'll never know how full my heart is thanks to you.
but mostly to you as a family. you all make me more welcome than i could ever say. and i just love that you give me hope that there are more good people in this world that i have yet to meet. you've changed my life indefinitely, i could never find the right words to thank you for all the good you've brought to me.
