The coffee table I am working on. Cherry and walnut. Mortise and thru-tenon joinery. Will be adding drawers next (an decision regretfully made after the table was completed, but before finishing).

Muta is just resting on the living room table, modelling for me.

Gargoyle table

c. 18th century

Balayong

85.5 x 130.5 x 79 cm (33 3/4 x 51 1/4 x 31 in)

The gargoyle table - sometimes called dinemonyo - is one of the most elusive early pieces of Hispano-Filipino furniture, and arguably could be considered the pinnacle object to many serious furniture collectors and connoisseurs. This altar table is a very rare find and will cause many hearts to exhilarate.

The earliest altar tables made by Chinese artisans residing in Batangas were copied from Ming dynasty altar tables as they both shared the same rectilinear profile – a product of pragmatic design and simple joinery based on practical rather than aesthetic considerations. Later on, masks that resemble some form of gargoyle and ball-and-claw foot on the legs were added as ornamentals. In other cultures, as from 6th century Japan, roof ornaments made from fired clay, stone or wood called Onigawara gargoyle had been used in Buddhist temples to stop leaks. In European architecture, medieval cathedrals have carved grotesque creatures with a spout to redirect water from the roof away from the side of the building to prevent eroding the mason work. The gargoyles supposedly illustrated evil, and they’re intended to turn away evil and harm. Among the Chinese, guardian lions made of stone were placed in front of imperial palaces and tombs, temples, government offices and the homes of wealthy people and government officials. They were believed to have powerful protective benefits.

The top of this table is mitered with floating center, and grooved around the edges to emphasize its thickness. There are two significantly-sized drawers. The flanges with squiggly outline ostensibly support the top but function more like a decorative element. The gargoyle masks carved on the knees of the leg have fluted top hair, bulging eyes, prominent nose, mouth agape revealing some teeth and fangs, and scrolling facial hair, creating a menacing and powerful demeanor. The cabriole legs show the delineations of the lion’s lower leg before terminating in deeply carved, articulated ball-and claw foot grasping a ball. The table rests on a plank stretcher surmounted on ogee feet. The ogival aprons connect the gargoyle masks on all four corners.

Made of dark balayong (Afzelia Rhomboidea), a type of highly prized rosewood, it has a reddish brown color that tends to darken even more with age and has natural lustre. Very difficult to work on due to its durability and interlocking grain. There are some signs of wear as can be expected from a table that’s around 300 years old. It was last owned by a retired teacher from Malolos, Bulacan who had locked it up in storage for over 50 years. The craftsmanship and condition of this table is comparable to some similar tables kept in museums and top-notch private collections.

Provenance: Private collector, Malolos, Bulacan

Estimate: PHP 3,800,000 - 5,000,000

Spectacular forest hikes and mountain vistas abound within the Table Rock Wilderness, Nov. 18, 2018. BLM photos: Michael Campbell

A remnant of a lava flow that once covered the region along the western foothills of the Cascades, Table Rock stands at 4,881 feet above the northeastern portion of this small wilderness.

The wilderness was designated in 1984 and now is nearly 5,800 acres in size.

On this steep and rugged terrain, visitors can find a quiet forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock, with noble fir at higher elevations and crowds of rhododendron on many of the upper slopes

At least two endangered plants bloom here: Oregon sullivantia and Gorman's aster.

Deer and elk wander about in winter, and the northern spotted owl has been spotted among the old growth.

About 17 miles of trails give access to the wilderness. A relatively easy hike from Table Rock Road leads to Table Rock Trail. On clear days, hikers can spot many Cascade peaks in Oregon and Washington.

Table of Content, Annual Report

Table Rock is one of my favorite rock formations in Bandon, and I was excited that the sun went down right behind it and made the sand glow. I also love all the birds on the rock, especially right in front of the sun.

Table Mountain is located east of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in the Monitor Range. This isolated range is a trackless wilderness areas Southeast of Austin, NV.

I think that I must be one of the many that got photographed/filmed from this fellow's perspective. It's a little odd if I think about it too much. I, an amateur photographer, have posted a photo to a photo-hosting website, of a fellow amateur photographer taking a photo/recording of me, another amateur photographer. From the cab of a truck no less.

Okay, not profound, but you get the picture.

To commemorate the "my getting of a ping-pong table" i built one. yeah!

We're selling this table, but I wanted to post the picture here, because i thought the light coming in through the window helped create a really nice shot.

My wife loves the reclaimed lumber furniture at Anthropologie. Unfortunately, I hate to pay for furniture made from used lumber.

A trip to the reclaimed lumber place in East Palo Alto and $25 later and I had the lumber for the table she wanted.

I had a hard time getting the blue that she wanted, but we ended up with this color and she really likes it.

This coffee table is created from solid quarter sawn white oak. The top portion is composed of two book matched pieces which have similar patterns in their flecking. This creates an interesting design across the top of the table that is original and unique. The splines on each end are made of American Cherry.
