Ideas lost then discovered in pencil shavings

An art deco inspired Christmas card I made at school. The hardest part was also the most exciting part, since I love typography. ^_^

I spent quite some time making this, so it's watermarked for a reason...

P.S. I've uploaded another version of this Christmas card, which looks a lot better. It's in my school work set. :)

This was an almost-quote from designer Frank Chimero. I like it.

What is up with the typography on this beermat? Is that "11,568th"?

Final project done for my Typography 4 class at school. This info-graphic represents 12 hours where I documented my procrastination and productivity levels. Apparently, it is now obvious I was more on the procrastination side of things that day... ;) I'll be posting this soon with more detail over at rachelleletain.com

(Undergrad work)

So this week I followed the typography portrait tutorial that I found online. It was actually relatively simple and straightforward. It didn’t take me long at all. The tutorial involved using selective coloring to create a “base layer” for all my work. I then used custom brushes and painted them onto a blank canvas. I took my base layer and placed it into a layer mask, inverting the colors so to create the effect. I then added a gradient overlay (Blue/Red – looked the best) and added more text over it. I hope that this makes sense. I did everything using a 30-day trial version of Photoshop CS5. Otherwise, it probably wouldn’t have been possible. I think it fits in really well. When I see this, I see happiness (which is the emotion) and it clearly has typography. I used various fonts; roughly about 6 different fonts. This turned out surprisingly well considering it’s the one of the few times I’ve done a purely graphic design photo (and it was the first time I’ve use CS5).

Decided to go with upper case letters for this one. Letters and numbers I had difficulty with include "X", "M", "8", etc.
