Macro Mondays :: typography :: HMM Everyone!
Funny how the first four letter means mistake! I've just realised that I have used these stamps more times as a prop than it's actual use.
7 Days of Shooting. Week #44. Typography - Macro Monday
Illustrated letter L from a small bible I own.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to view my photos and comment or Fave.
Been working on this font for the past three or so months. Finally finished it with three different styles. The font will sell as a hand-set font and you will be able to change colors, construct new letters and many other options.
This is a new tutorial I wrote, inspired by Compassion from Ginger Monkey Design.

Created for a 1st semester Typography project. I chose the quote "Listen until their brain has been twisted like a dripping towel and what they have to say is all over the floor" - Hugh Elliot, because it is so evocative and macabre. The brief was to choose a quote and convey its meaning through the typography, without images.

One of several beautiful Mobil Oil vintage neon signs in Jacksonville, Texas.
This side of the sign says Mobiloil; the other side says Mobilgas! A photo I posted of the other side can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/mollyblock/13770873194/in/set-72157...

In 1952 the highly regarded printing company, W S Cowell of the Butter Market Press in ipswich, UK, issued a fine specimen book of typefaces availaable to their clients. In ring bound form it was intended to have updates issued as necessary and it gives details as to the various typefaces, sizes, weights and uses they may be utilised for by way of illustrated examples of text and display settings.
In a continuation of the growing interest in typography that had developed in the inter-war years in the UK this book is thoughtfully designed by John Lewis and the introduction notes that the use of coloured illustration or other decorative matter may "distress the typographical purist" but the book does have numerous inset pages showing either various typefaces and showing settings or discussing facts about it. These are drawn froma variety of sources and the page for Albertus, the typeface designed by Berthold Wolpe (1905 - 1989) for Monotype and commissioned in 1932 and first issued in 1935, shows a 1947 drawing by Eduardo Paolozzi "The Fairground" that links with the 'display face for the showman'.
Paolozzi (1924 - 2005) would have just finished his studies at The Slade in 1947 and was off to Paris for some years and he went on to become one of the most highly regarded late C20 British artists. I know some of his work in great detail due to my involvement in the reconstruction of Tottenham Court Road tube station that conatins his famous 'pop art' mosaic murals.
