EYE OF THE TIGER - SURVIVOR

FIGHTING TALK AMONG SURVIVORS

No matter how sad I think I am

I look at my cats and know how lucky I am

no matter how many times someone breaks my heart

I know my cats and I will never part

Little Maggie was found on the streets

on a busy road in a town far away

believe it or not she is part feral

can stand her ground; keep the wolves at bay

like a dog whose bark is worse than her bite

she is very vocal especially at night

just like me she can fight her corner

people underestimate her because she looks so sweet

but she and I are two of a kind

we are strong; we are sensitive; we are complete

behind the fragile shell you will find

a loving soul; a heart so kind

but if someone tries to threaten us

we will not bend they will find

a strength to be reckoned with

a warrior princess

a tiger on the inside

that never fails to impress

we leave our mark

we mark our territory

we fight for what is right

send cowards straight to Coventry

though we never get angry

we do often get depressed

we are highly sensitive beings

but at the same time we are blessed

the world sometimes feels too heavy

we feel the weight upon our shoulders

when people in glass houses throw stones at us

little pebbles often feel more like boulders

so we may retreat for a little while

before we plaster on a smile

Maggie would like to spend a night on the tiles

but tonight she is content with the cushion pile

the lamp so warm; the setting ambient

she falls asleep easily; expression so content

for me it is more difficult

my head is filled with waking thoughts and dreams

sometimes I wish that I was a cat

a cat that always gets the cream

but who among us has a perfect life

who among us is perfect

but never do I pity myself

I pity the ones who in my mind are hexed

I know I have a guardian angel

watching over me

with all that Maggie and I have been through

it's plain for us and all to see

I am a fighter; was a boxer like my Dad

I hung up my gloves; they're gathering dust

I never entered a fight that I couldn't win

I choose my battles wisely; you have to earn my trust

I am a very faithful friend

but if someone attacks us you will see

that I am stronger than I look

and so is my little Maggie.
