Rittenhouse Square is the name of both a public park and the surrounding neighborhood that is referred to also as Rittenhouse in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The park is one of the five original open-space parks planned by William Penn and his surveyor Thomas Holme during the late 17th century. The neighborhood is among the highest-income urban neighborhoods in the country. Together with Fitler Square, the Rittenhouse neighborhood and the square, comprise the Rittenhouse Fitler Historic District. Rittenhouse Square Park is maintained by the non-profit group, The Friends of Rittenhouse Square.[2] Known as "the Square," the park is widely considered one of the finest urban public spaces in the United States.[citation needed] The square cuts off 19th Street at Walnut Street and also at a half block above Manning Street. Its boundaries are 18th Street to the East, Walnut St. to the north, Rittenhouse Square West (a north-south boundary street), and Rittenhouse Square South (an east-west boundary street), making the park approximately two short blocks on each side.

TITLE: Lion Crushing a Serpent, ARTIST: Antoine-Louis Barye (1796 - 1875). Although his contemporaries criticized his style and his choice of animal subjects, Barye is today esteemed as the founder of the Parisian animaliers. He worked at a time of widespread public hope that the ruling government could be made liberal and responsive to its citizens. His choice of bronze over marble and his use of animals as symbols for human emotions were both considered radical. The political symbolism of the lion of monarchy crushing the evil serpent was applauded by Louis Philippe, who made Barye a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1833. Later Barye was appointed professor of zoological drawing at the Museum of Natural History, where Auguste Rodin studied with him. F. Barbedienne, whose foundry cast the Lion, interested Thomas Hockley, chairman of the Fairmount Park Art Association’s (now the Association for Public Art) Committee of Works of Art, in the sculpture. Hockley circulated subscription books in 1885, and six years later payment was made for a cast of the work, which was the first sculpture installed in Rittenhouse Square.

Near the Bay of Shoals is a stretch of shore littered with rusting cans and skeletal bedframes with mattresses amid the ruins of decaying shacks. It's the sort of eerie place that, especially in the evening, invites maudlin reflection on impermanence and inevitability.

Was going to let the cobwebs get to this one but when viewed as a thumbnail it sort of yelled at me so here we are. The layers between the bushes, road, light stream and terrain leading to Ngauruhoe must have said something to release it from the depths of spider land..haha.
Must admit had to dial back the red light stream a fair bit as was a bit strong and was taking way too much screaming attention from the mountain.

Greetings from The Gah'dens
Allan Gardens Conservatory
Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
It rained all morning so we cancelled our trip to the Humber and decided to go to Allan Gardens instead. It's always a good choice on a rainy day, or any day for that matter, there's so much to see and explore in one of Toronto's best kept secrets.
Usually it’s quiet, not too many people, but on this day however and to our surprise, the place was packed with tourists, two bus-loads of first time visitors, of course I had to play tour guide & host to show off this gem of a garden in the midst of our great city.
And of course there were lots of photographers, their cameras worked overtime, all we could hear was the sound of shutters along with ooh's and aah's each time someone discovered yet another hidden wonder. Passion flowers and turtles were the biggest hits, we couldn't get near them.
“Well, that’s great” you say, “but what’s that got to do with the pic of a shiny black fly on a red flower?”. Frankly, absolutely nothing, nada, nil. I just thought I’d make a stop in flickr’land, drop off this little snap from last weekend and say hi, how are you, hope you’re well.
I wish you a wonderful day. Thanks for your visit.
The Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM) is an art museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its collection contains nearly 25,000 works of art. It is one of the largest museums in the United States. Beginning around 1872, multiple organizations were founded in order to bring an art gallery to Milwaukee, as the city was still a growing port town with little or no facilities to hold major art exhibitions. Over the span of at least nine years, all attempts to build a major art gallery had failed. Shortly after that year, Alexander Mitchell donated all of her collection into constructing Milwaukee's first permanent art gallery in the city's history. In 1888, the Milwaukee Art Association was created by a group of German panorama artists and local businessmen. The same year, British-born businessman Frederick Layton built, endowed, and provided artwork for the Layton Art Gallery, now demolished. In 1911, the Milwaukee Art Institute, another building constructed to hold other exhibitions and collections, was completed. The institute was built right next to the Layton Art Gallery. The Milwaukee Art Museum was founded in 1888 and is purported to be Milwaukee's first art gallery, though that claim is disputed by the Layton Art Gallery, which opened the same year. The Milwaukee Art Center (now the Milwaukee Art Museum) was formed when the Milwaukee Art Institute and Layton Art Gallery merged their collections in 1957 and moved into the newly built Eero Saarinen-designed Milwaukee County War Memorial. In the latter half of the 20th century, the museum came to include the War Memorial Center in 1957 as well as the brutalist Kahler Building (1975) designed by David Kahler and the Quadracci Pavilion (2001) created by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The Quadracci Pavilion contains a movable, wing-like brise soleil that opens up for a wingspan of 217 feet (66 m) during the day, folding over the tall, arched structure at night or during inclement weather. The pavilion received the 2004 Outstanding Structure Award from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. This iconic building, often referred to as "the Calatrava", is used in the museum logo. In November 2015, the museum opened a $34 million expansion funded jointly by a museum capital campaign and by Milwaukee County. The new building, the Shields Building, designed by Milwaukee architect James Shields of HGA, provides an additional 30,000 square feet for art, including a section devoted to light-based media, photography, and video installation. The building includes a new atrium and lakefront-facing entry point for visitors and was designed with cantilevered elements and concrete columns to complement, respectively, the existing Calatrava and Kahler structures on the site. The final design emerged after a lengthy process that included the main architect's departure because of design disputes and his return to the project. The museum houses nearly 25,000 works of art housed on four floors, with works from antiquity to the present. Included in the collection are 15th- to 20th-century European and 17th- to 20th-century American paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, decorative arts, photographs, and folk and self-taught art. Among the best in the collection are the museum's holding of American decorative arts, German Expressionism, folk and Haitian art, and American art after 1960. The museum holds one of the largest collections of works by Wisconsin native Georgia O'Keeffe. Other artists represented include Gustave Caillebotte, Nardo di Cione, Francisco de Zurbarán, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Winslow Homer, Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Gabriele Munter, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Frank Lloyd Wright, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, Robert Gober, and Andy Warhol. It also has paintings by European painters Francesco Botticini, Jan Swart van Groningen, Ferdinand Bol, Jan van Goyen, Hendrick Van Vliet, Franz von Lenbach (Bavarian Girl), Ferdinand Waldmüller (Interruption), Carl Spitzweg, Bouguereau, Gerome (2 Majesties), Gustave Caillebotte, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Kowalski (Winter in Russia), Jules Bastien-Lepage (The Wood Gatherer), and Max Pechstein.

Tbilisi is the capital and largest city of Georgia, located in the eastern part of the country along the banks of the Kura River. The city has a rich history that spans over 1,500 years and has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations over the centuries. The old part of Tbilisi, known for its charming architecture and unique atmosphere, is one of the most fascinating areas of the city. One of the most striking features of this area is the traditional houses with wooden balconies. These wooden balconies, often adorned with intricate carvings, are a significant element of Tbilisi's urban aesthetic and culture. This old Tbilisi, also known as the Old Town or Dzveli Tbilisi, is one of the oldest parts of the city and has a rich history dating back to the 5th century. Over the centuries, Tbilisi has been influenced by Persian, Byzantine, Arab, and Russian cultures, which is evident in its diverse architectural styles. The houses with wooden balconies are typical of Tbilisi's traditional architectural style and reflect both Georgian and Persian influences. Perched on a steep hill overlooking Tbilisi’s Old Town and the Mtkvari River, Narikala Fortress is one of the city’s most iconic and historic landmarks. Dating back to the 4th century, this ancient fortress has seen the rise and fall of empires and has been a silent guardian of Tbilisi for centuries. Narikala’s origins date back to the founding of the city itself, with the first fortifications believed to have been built by the Persians in the 4th century. Over the centuries, the fortress was expanded and strengthened by various ruling powers, including the Umayyads in the 7th century, the Mongols in the 12th century, and later by Georgian kings. Within Narikala’s walls, you’ll find the restored St. Nicholas Church, originally built in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 1990s. The church’s interior is decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from Georgian history and the Bible. Visitors can reach the fortress by taking a scenic walk through the old town or by taking the modern cable car from Rike Park.
The view from the Metekhi Church in Tbilisi is breathtaking, offering a panoramic sight of the historic city and its surroundings. Perched on a high cliff overlooking the Mtkvari River (Kura), the church provides visitors with a stunning perspective of Tbilisi's old town.
