Tbilisi is the capital and largest city of Georgia, located in the eastern part of the country along the banks of the Kura River. The city has a rich history that spans over 1,500 years and has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations over the centuries. The old part of Tbilisi, known for its charming architecture and unique atmosphere, is one of the most fascinating areas of the city. One of the most striking features of this area is the traditional houses with wooden balconies. These wooden balconies, often adorned with intricate carvings, are a significant element of Tbilisi's urban aesthetic and culture. This old Tbilisi, also known as the Old Town or Dzveli Tbilisi, is one of the oldest parts of the city and has a rich history dating back to the 5th century. Over the centuries, Tbilisi has been influenced by Persian, Byzantine, Arab, and Russian cultures, which is evident in its diverse architectural styles. The houses with wooden balconies are typical of Tbilisi's traditional architectural style and reflect both Georgian and Persian influences. The balconies are often decorated with beautiful woodwork, characterized by intricate patterns and designs. Originally, these balconies served practical purposes, such as providing extra living space and creating shade during the hot summers, but today they are primarily an aesthetic and cultural feature of the city. Abanotubani, the Bath District, is one of the oldest parts of the city, known for its sulfur baths. Here you can find many traditional houses with wooden balconies, as well as narrow streets and colorful facades. Shavteli Street is one of the most picturesque streets in old Tbilisi and a popular destination for tourists due to its historic charm. The houses with wooden balconies contribute to the unique charm and character of Tbilisi. They are an important part of the city's cultural heritage. In recent years, significant efforts have been made to restore and preserve these historic houses, ensuring that the unique architecture and cultural value are maintained for future generations.

A sea of people pulses through the heart of Manhattan beneath the glowing beacon of One Times Square. The iconic red vertical sign blazes through the night, framed by dazzling LED billboards and the buzz of endless taxis and foot traffic. Summer 2025 in New York City—alive, electric, and unmistakably Times Square.
Philadelphia, known colloquially as Philly, is the largest city in the U.S. state and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the sixth-most populous U.S. city, with a 2018 census-estimated population of 1,584,138. Since 1854, the city has been coterminous with Philadelphia County, the most populous county in Pennsylvania and the urban core of the eighth-largest U.S. metropolitan statistical area, with over 6 million residents as of 2017. Philadelphia is also the economic and cultural anchor of the greater Delaware Valley, located along the lower Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, within the Northeast megalopolis. The Delaware Valley's population of 7.2 million ranks it as the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States. William Penn, an English Quaker, founded the city in 1682 to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 at the Second Continental Congress, and the Constitution at the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. Several other key events occurred in Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War including the First Continental Congress, the preservation of the Liberty Bell, the Battle of Germantown, and the Siege of Fort Mifflin. Philadelphia remained the nation's largest city until being overtaken by New York City in 1790; the city was also one of the nation's capitals during the revolution, serving as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C. was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and a railroad hub. The city grew from an influx of European immigrants, most of whom came from Ireland, Italy and Germany—the three largest reported ancestry groups in the city as of 2015. In the early 20th century, Philadelphia became a prime destination for African Americans during the Great Migration after the Civil War, as well as Puerto Ricans. The city's population doubled from one million to two million people between 1890 and 1950. The Philadelphia area's many universities and colleges make it a top study destination, as the city has evolved into an educational and economic hub. As of 2019, the Philadelphia metropolitan area is estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of $490 billion. Philadelphia is the center of economic activity in Pennsylvania and is home to five Fortune 1000 companies. The Philadelphia skyline is expanding, with a market of almost 81,900 commercial properties in 2016, including several nationally prominent skyscrapers. Philadelphia has more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. Fairmount Park, when combined with the adjacent Wissahickon Valley Park in the same watershed, is one of the largest contiguous urban park areas in the United States. The city is known for its arts, culture, cuisine, and colonial history, attracting 42 million domestic tourists in 2016 who spent $6.8 billion, generating an estimated $11 billion in total economic impact in the city and surrounding four counties of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia has also emerged as a biotechnology hub. Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps, and is also the home of many U.S. firsts, including the first library (1731), hospital (1751), medical school (1765), national capital (1774), stock exchange (1790), zoo (1874), and business school (1881). Philadelphia contains 67 National Historic Landmarks and the World Heritage Site of Independence Hall. The city became a member of the Organization of World Heritage Cities in 2015, as the first World Heritage City in the United States. Although Philadelphia is rapidly undergoing gentrification, the city actively maintains mitigation strategies to minimize displacement of homeowners in gentrifying neighborhoods.
Everywhere i've been, apart in Jeddah, women wear the abaya in KSA (the black dress). The tourist women are also invited to wear it. Women stay mainly in homes, and sometimes, you can spend a day without seeing one woman.
Jeddah is really different, and in restaurant, you do not have to be in separate rooms to eat, men and women are in the same place, and everybody smoke chicha!
At school and university, men and women are separated too. There is a project in KSA: a university that would mix men and women.
And another revolution: on the campus, women should be able to drive cars.

Svolvær is a picturesque coastal town that lives up to its reputation as a popular tourist spot. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the town is renowned for its thriving fishing industry. There is a constant fishy smell in the air, which arises from the stockfish being hung out to dry. Overall, Svolvær may not be the ultimate destination in itself, but for us, it served as the gateway to the Lofoten Islands. While Svolvær and the rest of the archipelago may lack upscale hotels and fine dining options, they more than compensate with the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Lofoten archipelago - Svolvær, Lofoten, Norway.
Philadelphia City Hall is the seat of government for the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The building was constructed from 1871 to 1901 within Penn Square, in the middle of Center City. John McArthur Jr. and Thomas Ustick Walter designed the building in the Second Empire style. City Hall is a masonry building whose weight is borne by granite and brick walls up to 22 ft (6.7 m) thick. The principal exterior materials are limestone, granite, and marble. The final construction cost was $24 million. At 548 ft (167 m), including the statue of city founder William Penn atop its tower, City Hall was the tallest habitable building in the world from 1894 to 1908. It remained the tallest in Pennsylvania until it was surpassed in 1932 by the Gulf Tower in Pittsburgh. It was the tallest in Philadelphia until 1986 when the construction of One Liberty Place surpassed it, ending the informal gentlemen's agreement that had limited the height of buildings in the city to no higher than the Penn statue. In 1976, City Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark.

Now are mountain cairns the equivalent to driftwood stacks on the beach? There's something that hoomans seem to always need to do and stack stuff into a formation or make a signal marker. I'm not a phycologist and want to begin to work it all out but will still photograph them although do know a few photogs who just hate them. Either way they do seem to appear all over the place...bit like that old meme - 'Leroy was here' maybe. Ponderous.

Inside the Minster, looking from the Nave, past the Central Tower, through the Quire and ending up at the East End, the building is vast, the Central Tower is tall enough to hold the Leaning Tower of Pisa with room to spare, the stained glass in the East End window is the largest area of stained glass in the country.
There is so much history contained within this building, it is just a joy to explore.
The Milwaukee Pierhead Light is an active lighthouse located in the Milwaukee harbor, just south of downtown. This aid to navigation is a 'sister' of the Kenosha North Pier Light. The station was established in 1872. It is west of the Milwaukee Breakwater Light, and is near the outflow of the Milwaukee River—not far east of where that river converged with the Kinnickinnic River—into the Milwaukee Harbor and Lake Michigan. This light has a round steel tower with a round gallery and a ten-sided lantern. In 1926, the original 4th Order Fresnel lens was transferred to the Milwaukee Breakwater Light, and that lens is now displayed at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Fifth Order Fresnel lens—installed in 1926—was removed in 2005. The tower is newly painted circa 2007. The 5th Order lens is said to be on display also at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. According to one source: "The original lantern room had helical bar windows and is believed to [be] the one presently on the Breakwater Light." This is corroborated by the report that the Breakwater Light has a "round cast iron lantern room [that] features helical astragal" in the lantern. A Submarine cable runs from this light to the Milwaukee Breakwater Light, upon which a lighted danger warning is displayed. The light was recently painted, circa 2007. From 1872 until 1926, the light had its own keepers. Thereafter, this light, like all of the lights in the harbor, was serviced by the resident Lighthouse keepers who were stationed at the neighboring North Point Light Station until it was automated. The light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in September 2012.

A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a navigational aid for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. Lighthouses mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, rocks and safe entries to harbors; they also assist in aerial navigation. Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses has declined due to the expense of maintenance and use of electronic navigational systems.

The Three Bells of Fira, officially known as The Catholic Church of the Dormition, is a Greek Catholic church on the island of Santorini. The church is known for its blue dome, three bells and views. The building is located in the town of Fira, directly above the cliffs which dominate western Santorini.
The site of the modern Three Bells of Fira has been occupied by a number of other buildings. In the mid-17th century, two modest cave churches were built into the then-solid cliff face. These churches were eventually destroyed as the cliff receded (due to the ongoing expansion of Fira) and an infirmary was built. This building was eventually occupied by Jesuits, who lived on the site until the land was given to the Diocese of Santorini. The current church was built in 1757, and then refurbished and expanded multiple times over the centuries. The structure was heavily damaged in the 1956 Amorgos earthquake, after which the building was restored.
The church's feast day is 15 August.

The city of Pigeon Forge located in East Tennessee, is surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains and beautiful scenery for every season. This town is made up of a delightful mix of life-long residents, young families attracted by nature’s beauty, and folks who have chosen to spend their retirement years in Pigeon Forge.
The early history of this town dates back to before the Revolutionary War. The first business was established in the early 1800s. While Pigeon Forge once was a small farming community, the lure of the mountains brought more and more visitors to the area, and new businesses were established to meet the needs of these travelers.
Today, Pigeon Forge is a major tourist destination, and while the city takes care of more than 10 million people who visit each year, their residents are still our top priority. In addition to the Smoky Mountain scenery, Pigeon Forge has plenty of parks and recreational areas, an outstanding community center and public library, as well as an excellent educational system that ranges from pre-school through high school.

The North Point Light is a lighthouse located in Lake Park on the East Side of Milwaukee in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.. It was also added to the Library of Congress Historic American Buildings Survey as survey HABS WI-358. It replaced a previous Cream City brick lighthouse constructed in 1855 that was located too close to the edge of the eroding bluff. In 1888 a cast-iron lighthouse was built, but this tower was not tall enough and was placed on top of a steel structure in 1912 raising its height to 74 feet (23 m) and light focal plane to 154 feet (47 m). The tower underwent restoration in 2005. The first lantern burned mineral oil. A new lens, installed in 1868, is still in use. The present light source is a 25,000 candlepower lamp rotated electrically and controlled by an automatic time clock. The lens fouses a 1,300,000 candlepower signal visible for 25 miles (40 km). A $984,000 grant was used to restore the light and to open it to the public.
