One of the most interesting trees I've ever seen. This was located at the butterfly house in St. Louis, Missouri.

Drusilla admires the lush leaves of the giant monstera plant.

This is the biggest house plant I ever had. I bought it about a year ago for only $16. I've had luck bottom watering it. It is enormous - probably 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide. I'm a big fan of the fenestrated leaves. It has grown quite a few new leaves in the last year. I'm sure it needs to be divided, but I'm going to try to keep it in the original nursery pot as long as I can. I covered the surface with cinnamon to deter insect pests (and I do not water the top). It is working. My son also helped me to stake it. I bottom water it when the leaves get droopy about every two weeks and keep it in a well lit room.

The little town of Tullah has a rich history which we'll explore once we get into the body of the photographs from this series. But it is surrounded by mountains, lakes and forests of myrtle, sassafras and eucalypts.

The weather when this photograph was taken was very overcast with heavy rain on the way. Under these light conditions Lomochrome Purple film softens the colours and the purples are deeper.

These are genuine film effects. No digital alterations were made here.

One of my favorite top down shots from the past year. Today marks my 700th post since I started sharing my work on Instagram. Just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you on every platform for being so supportive, encouraging and inspiring over the years!

This view of the mountain top came early in the morning, just as the sun was peaking over the distant horizon. The intense colours were vivid and warm.

Added a Pioneer Woman Sunshine action, but took out the brightness layer and then ran her Heartland action and set it to 61%. Then put a curves layer back on top to add back in some of the contrast. Also, I shot this with a pretty wide angle lens and that's why the actual umbrella doesn't appear completely circular -- wide angle lens distortion.

Detail of a succulent plant.

Recently I shared a group of tulip photographs and mentioned that we saw them during April visits to a Bay Area garden. But tulips were not the only attractions there. For example, I posted a photograph of dogwood blossoms a few days ago. Although they comprise a very small part of the overall displays, there are also some very interesting succulent plants here and there.

At this garden, many of these plants are found in small pots in various locations — on a table, on top of a low wall, tucked into a spot on the ground. Many of the are, in my view, not the most visually exciting plants, and some that present interesting patterns are difficult to photograph, often because it is hard to get an uninterrupted framing of the plant. I liked this plant, however, both for the remarkable patterns of the leaves and for the striking colorations.

I had heard about a technique quite a while ago and I have been meaning to try it one day, it consists of taking an object, photographing it multiple times all around it and then blending the layers in varying opacity in photoshop.

This is my first attempt - 12 photos taken around this nice little pot of lavender, blended in PS. I've then added some textures to finish the look. The left-hand image is my base image or starting point as a comparison.

The technique can be used on outdoor objects as well like trees, statues, fountains, buildings etc, etc...
