Gulls returning to roost in the fading late afternoon light at Langford Lakes near Wilton in Wiltshire. I wanted to use the compression of the 600mm here and I think it's worked out well.

During our trip, one of the most spectacular things I have witnessed was the intense thunderstorms that continued after the sunset. The lightning strikes were easily 1 or more every second, some of them bright enough to make it look like day time.
When you get strikes this often, you begin to be picky about the shape and position of the strikes... We stopped on the roadside to try to capture some strikes and stumbled upon this grain silo in the middle of a field. Despite having plenty of strikes, we wanted one right above the silo. I think all of us in the group managed to capture this stunning cloud-to-cloud strike.
This picture was sent to me by a friend with no ID who made the picture. It’s been around the internet. I used Photoshop to improve the image for Flickr
But what’s really important is not the picture maker but who did the sculpture? This is an amazing work of art. I like how the artist uses minimal carvings on each pumpkin and yet you know exactly what he is trying to say. As an art historian I would rank it with other great sculptures especially those of the modern era. This would make a wonderful addition to any museum. If the artist could be identified I would lovingly place his or her name here.
Every time I look at this I laugh or smile. So that’s the main reason I placed it. Flickr people have a good laugh in these sad economical times.

This sign caught my eye, it's to the point! C'mon in and buy dead people's stuff! Not sure it's a good sign from a marketing point of view, in my opinion. This woman walked in, briefly. From their facebook site: An ever-changing curation of quality wearable vintage and knickknacks, all 20 years or older. In reality though, it's no different than buying items from an estate sale.

Been meaning to do this shot for ages, this weeks theme finally gave me the reason to get my backside in gear and actually create it.
It's a composite of two shots, one of the broken bulb stem and the other a "high speed" of a water balloon popping.
If anyone has questions on the setup for this please ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Week # 16, Theme: Glass, not necessarily windows
Strobist info-

Also posting into Cliche Saturday as I think high speed shots are now pretty cliche!
Linus caught a bird, his first one. I woke up at about 6 o'clock in the morning because of a noise. When I went downstairs to look what had happened, he had already brought the bird indoors and Fynn was behind him. Apparently Linus was so surprised to see me that he dropped his prey. The confusion that followed allowed me to usher the cats into the living room and close the door. The bird was still alive and had sought refuge in a cat cave. I took the cat cave and put it out on the terrace and when I checked on the bird a few minutes later it had disappeared. I hope that it wasn't injured but there was no blood and it was obviously still able to fly. Linus wasn't pleased that I had stolen his bird. I'm afraid that he is determined to catch a new one.
Taken from the pier at Saltburn, looking towards Redcar to the north. The beach huts at Saltburn are in heavy shadow.
Just visible in the far distance is the blast furnace of British Steel, Redcar, which was brought down by explosives on 23rd November 2022 in preparation for future regeneration of the site. The landscape will be completely different without it, having dominated the skyline since 1979

Anne Ferran has focused on the topography of the Ross Female Factory to capture something of the traces of our female convict past. More than 13,000 women and their children were transported to Van Diemen's Land in the first half of the 19th century. Her monochromatic images are printed on aluminium sheets. I have attached a link to the remaining site of the Ross Female Factory below.

The second day we were in Bristol was a really gloomy one, as the rain bands from Hurricane Irma were already beginning to come in as she moved out of Florida. There were some high winds, at one point, but while Don and I were driving around, taking in the town, it was just drizzly and overcast. Having come through Bristol many years before on a sunny day, I knew the town, like most places wasn't exactly showing its charming best thanks to the grey day we were experiencing. It was still much better than what Florida and Georgia were going through, so we made the best of the gloom!
I took this shot from inside the car as we were driving through town.

never to old to wear a silly short dress.
Its sunny Sunday and I have a morning in the garden planned so by this afternoon I will have three broken nails and a ton of mud under the remaining ones oh what joy.
At least I had a nice girlie evening last night
Or is it a stairway to heaven and did I make it to the top? :)
I took this shot inside the famous Arc de Triomphe. It was really hard to get a photo like this, I couldn't use my tripod (of course, duh it's Paris) and it was pretty dark in here..
Now I look back at the EXIF I'm pretty proud of myself I got a sharp photo with an exposure of 1.5 seconds :)
View Large On Black! Please :D
I guess I made it to the top, Explore number fucking one!
Sorry I said fucking people!

Welcome, wild harbinger of spring!
To this small nook of earth;
Feeling and fancy fondly cling
Round thoughts which owe their birth
To thee, and to the humble spot
Where chance has fixed thy lowly lot.

I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen with my eyes!
Shimmering in silky tones I discovered these, a mix if white and pink I had NEVER seen before!
The petals look 'waxy' but feel silky soft!
The peony was originally introduced as medicine.
In fact, its ancient Japanese name "Ebisugusuri" literally means ‘medicine from China’.
However, due to its beautiful and now mostly double blooms, in time, many decorative varieties were developed. In Japanese society, it was seen both as a medicine and a source of beauty.
THANKS for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated.
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

This image was captured at Skógarfoss in Iceland. On our way to the top of the falls we spotted, in our opinion, what had to be the best vantage of the falls. After dodging wildlife and braving a pretty intimidating drop to the ground below, Callum managed to make it to the spot.
Seriously, Iceland just never fails to amaze me.
The Japanese railway system is world-famous for being well organised and efficient, but the very complex network of lines which are specific to the metropolitan areas may be daunting.

On Black -- It's worth it.
The Wave itself is not easy to find. In an effort to maintain the area's natural settings, there are few trails or signs to guide hikers within the area. It is not uncommon for groups to get lost and never find the Wave. It is therefore recommended that each group carry a GPS receiver to both find the Wave and their way back. The Wave's exact GPS coordinates can be obtained from the rangers. --from Wiki
There's an iridescence in some of The Wave's formations, which I've attempted to convey here. The squiggly, glowing orange sections about mid way through the image literally shimmer in low light, glowing in majestic multi-dimensional depth. It's truly one of those things that's best experienced in person.
I love the softness of the overall image, contrasted with the crisp edges of the front petals.
I think I'm developing a love for tulips that might rival that of dahlias!
The editing on this shot was increasing the contrast a bit, there is no texture added.
